Hello Travelblog! This is my second attempt at writing this as I think the laptop I have bought with me is even worse than mine. I’m in New York now, East Williamsburg to be precise at the New York Loft Hostel - It seems to be some old converted warehouses and is pretty nice but the air conditioning is very loud. My flight over was pretty good except coming down to land which was a bit like being on Oblivion at Alton Towers(Apparently there was a hurricane in Maine), I watched some IT Crowd as well as Wolverine on the plane, but was sat with businessmen who weren’t very friendly. When we arrived at Newark I had to wait almost an hour to get through immigration and I think the US government now have at least ... read more

Well everyone, I've been talking about traveling to ghana for almost a year now and today's the day it happens. I left my wonderful home of north carolina three days ago and i'm actually already starting to miss it. New York has been great as the last time I came and stayed a week it rained every single day. The past couple of days has been nothing short of perfect. I'm kind of alarmed though; in June, the church next to the apartment I'm staying at played church music really, really loud this time of the morning on Sunday (and today's also a Sunday). I hope they didn't get shut down for some shady reason or they weren't all massacred. Unlikely, I know, but still something to think about. Didn't sleep much last night cause I ... read more

Hello, Friday we just mucked around at Ross and Christas. I swept the back deck, then thought I should pull out some of the weeds in a planter on the deck, which led to the garden below. Then around to the other garden, which got me to pruning the bush , which led to pruning the big trees before Josh mowed the lawn !!!! How anyone works in this weather I'm buggered if I know. Talk about sweat, I had to go and have another shower. Ross and Christa both work from about 7am to 1.30pm normally. Come home for a couple of hours then either go racing at night or just go back and feed up and put the horses out. So the only time they're home is during the hottest part of the day. Funny ... read more

Because New York doesn't only mean Wall Street, Times Square and 5th Avenue or a place presented in the show Sex and the City, today I went to see the Bronx. And well... there is not much to say. One hour by metro seems to be enough to move to a different world. A world in which you can see poverty and where the American dream unfortunately hasn't come true. PS.Tomorrow Miami. Godzina metrem wystarczy, zeby przeniesc sie do zupelnie innego swiata. Takiego, w ktorym panuje bieda i w ktorym amerykanski sen niestety sie nie spelnil. PS.Jutro juz Miami.... read more

When for the first time I went to see the Ground Zero, a place in which used to be the WTC twin towers, I hoped to see something that would move me or perhaps even schock me... I hoped it would be the one place in New York where I could discovere something spiritual, something deep what would give us a certain message. This is a place where the biggest terrorist atack took place and where died almost 3000 people. But nothing. 16 acres of an empty space that now doesn't even remind of the people who died. And all the thoughts and reflexions are disturbed by the ongoing construction. It is planned to build there another office building. And who knows if practicality will allow to build some memorial that would remind of all the ... read more

Metro in New York is a perfect place when it comes to anthropological researches. Rushing through the streets in a crowded city you can't see it that well. But in a metro car, where you are limited with its space, you can easily notice that in this city there is... everyone. ALL races, all social classes... White people, black people, orthodox people, egocentrics... And it's an amazing experience to go all the way down sitting in one place and observing how people change. One time may sit next to you a Chinese guy, then an angry black rapper, after that a lady with five kids or a handsome buisnessman in a nice suit. Each station different people. And there are around 30 stations. And watching how people from all over the world travel by metro, I ... read more

So today I moved to Greg's place. Metro, direction- Brooklyn :) I easily found the place. Beautiful apartmant house, registration, 15th floor. I only said hello, left my backpack and went towards the Wall Street. Many handsome guys in suits who gave me a feeling of seriousness and importance of this place but except that skyscrapers, skyscrapers and skyscrapers... After a few days in New York, the crowds started annoying me and even handsome American guys in suits seemed not to be that interesting anymore. The Seaport appeared to be a perfect place for a morning coffee, without any tourists and crowd. The view of the Brooklyn Bridge, boats, bay, seagulls and the sun... Breathing space, the time for collecting thoughts. And then... a trip to Coney Island! 16 stops from Times Square (!!!) And there ... read more

Avi made us a wonderful dinner tonight! He is quite the host...We'd planned on going to a movie but instead watched a movie being made when we went out for a walk after dinner... We'd noticed the last day or two that many streets had orange no parking cones out. Avi said it was for a movie that was being filmed in the area. There are a few movie lots/studios and lighting places. Tomorrow we'll go see a set for Atlantic City that has been left up. We were going to walk around the park but decided to head towards the lights and to where all the people were standing. So many people waiting and watching the filming which took all of a few minutes but the setting up took a long time. One of the ... read more

I arrived safe and sound after a long flight and layover in Seattle. Slept a little on the plane so was not totally exhausted when my cousin David met me. We went to eat dinner with his family and had a wonderful time, got my hot pastrami sandwich too! It is so fun to meet new cousins. Hopefully one day they'll come visit us in Alaska. (David took some pictures so as soon as he emails them to me I'll post them.) After dinner David dropped me off at Avi's home. Avi went into Manhattan the next morning and I thought I might get up and join him but slept in instead. Then sat outside in his beautiful garden reading and enjoying the beautiful weather. I'm typing this up now sitting inside, it is not so ... read more
