Our last site of lodging was at our son, Cory’s, house outside of Corning, NY. The night before our departure, the two Cory’s re-enacted the movie”The Hustler” with Fast Eddie and Minnesota Fats. They moved around the pool table swiftly and accurately. The games were close but the father finally admitted the son might have won...but it was almost too close to tell. When Cory and I were in college at the University of Buffalo, I had to wait for my “Fast Eddie” to win some money on the pool table before we could go out on date. He always won and we would always have an exciting date. Oh, the memories. On the day we left Cory’s house, we made plans to meet up with dear friends for lunch. Sue has been a treasured friend ... read more

Dear Friends, Romans, & Family Members, With fond memories of a Sweet (Suite) visit with the Svihuses, we left Maine for Brookline, New Hampshire where we had stayed previously and we knew it was still open. Got back into our Road Routine. We then left for New York, crossing Massachusetts on Highway 2 going to New York. It was a beautiful drive...another scenic highway through The Berkshires at their in-between seasons. We arrived in Binghamton, NY as we knew that this campground was still open. Again no water hookups, but electricity is so welcome as then we have heat without running the generator. We will explore this town today. But, the BIG news was the weather. So far in more than 2 months on the road, we have only had 6 days of rain and usually ... read more

Tuesday. Oct 30th. Niantec, CT to Oyster Bay, NY. We had a horrible night at anchor the boat was rolling all night. Vito wanted to be underway by 0700 to catch the tide going south in Long Island. By sunrise as we made ready, the laptop wouldn’t catch the signal from the GPS antenna. An hour went by and I got ready to navigate by paper and then Vitto decided to erase Norton and discovered that it was blocking entry to the necessary computer port. We left the anchorage at 0816 with the tide 1.5 kts. in our favor and GPS working. At 0921 we went by Long Sand Shoal. The swells got big, wind 10 to 15 Kts out of the west right on the nose. It was a rough ride. The aft blower and ... read more

I do enjoy writing this blog - it serves two important functions. Firstly, it makes me feel like I’m doing something productive - unadulterated leisure makes me restless. Secondly, it allows me to escape the company of five smelly blokes and feel a little bit in contact with the rest of the world. Tonight I am in Ithica, the nicest hotel so far with a sauna, indoor and outdoor pool, fitness room and most importantly, Street Fighter 2 machines for a quarter a time, all of which I have made use of. The coffee with creamer (definitely not a white coffee, this error was kindly corrected by the barman) that I am drinking cost me 75p. Today has been a day of mild disappointments, although on the whole it has been enjoyable, but more of that ... read more

I finally starting my travel journal! I would have done this sooner, even before I left but I've been ridiculously busy. I'm finally in Scotland, in my flat, in the right classes, with food, and bedding, and now internet. I guess I'm figuring it out! It's been so hectic though, going through orientation and then moving and having to start classes immediately. So lets start from the beginning! My flight left from JFK on Monday the 1st in a horrible storm. I got to the airport around 1:30 and checked in around 2. There were a few people from my program checking in when I was so I got to meet some people right away. We all had to wear red ribbons on our bags so we could be identified. There was supposed to be a ... read more

It's late, I know. But i can't sleep. Long ago, on outward bound, I had a motto, we had a motto.... sleep when your dead! I get into this mind set everytime something big is happening. Going to college, saying goodbye to friends, leaving for a while, moving... And I usually end up paying for it once things calm back down, but my mind never stops and I try to live it up! My mom, my step dad and I just watched Elizabethtown. One of my favorite movies. One of those laugh, cry, laugh and cry, movies. It was nice, spending time together while we can. I had an awesome christmas! every year I think that there isn't another thing I could possibly need... but my family never fails to amaze me. thoughtful gifts, useful gifts, ... read more

We have covered a lot of territory. Yesterday we were a little lost and drove down even into Pennsylvania before turning back to the Finger Lakes Region. To see the Peter Whitmer Home we were on the wrong side of one of those lakes but just kept on going through the beautiful grape-growing areas along those long laeks . Truth is, the lake and scenery reminded is quite a bit of the vineyards and scenes near Versoix (Geneva) Switzerland on the lake there. We stopped for a wine-flavoured ice-cream dish that was really good. (no fear for driving or word of wisdom because the alcohol is evaporated in cooking the flavoring sauce). We did get back up to that historic site, again through beautiful country - some of it occupied by god-fearing Amish people. Need we ... read more

So, its been a few more days again since I wrote... Well now everything is completely fucked up and now got some planning to do... Ok so here is the start of it. Well yesterday I packed my backpack to leave this morning at 7 am... However, with those big ass storms flooding everywhere we have to detour our trip some. The plan was to go to Binghamton, NY and Spencer, NY (close to Ithaca) and then head home by way of military as you know... Well the route we were going to take has been taken out by the floods. Binghamton is in a state of emergency as with many of the place we could fly out of (air force bases)... SOOOO... We are taking a bus from Franconia to Manchester (NH), picking up a ... read more
