So!!!! Just throwing this one out there. And I know Nikkie will write a whole lot more about this, because this is a place close to her heart. The town of Sile is about 35 minutes north of Albuquerque next to the Rio Grande river. It's a town, home to few, that rarely apperars on any map. It is a stretch of land located between two Indian Pueblos: Cochiti and Santo Domingo. I always joke saying Sile has 3 houses, 5 people, 10 dogs, 20 cows and 50 chickens. Ha ha. Sile is where Nikkie's grandma lives. All family gatherings take place here. Everybody goes there for Christmas and Thanksgiving. There is never a shortage of beans, chile or tortillas. Well I bring up Sile because this is a special place to us. It was December ... read more

The ALBUQUERQUE BALLOON FIESTA!!! It's cold outside. The sun is not up yet. You did not want to get up in the first place. 20,000 other people have exactly the same idea at 5 in the morning. And you are stuck in traffic as if you are driving in Los Angeles at rush hour. These are just a couple of the things that you will have to deal with going to the Balloon Fiesta. I lived here for 5 years and never went. On the way to school in the morning you will just see hundreds of balloons in the sky. So Nikkie and I decided to go and lived through all the agonies described above. But once you are inside it turns magical. You get right up there with the balloonists making small talk and ... read more

ALBUQUERQUE!! AWESOME DAY!! So we woke up, chilled out a bit.. took it easy for once. I slept later than 7 for the first time. Then as we're leaving the hotel, dad started off the day nice and early with a mentionable quote: Dad: I haven't tasted any yet so I don't know if they're as good as the ones back home (Referring to the month infestation in our motel) HAH. oh, dad. We went to this AWESOMEE Market/Cafe place. MMM, totally my style. Fresh, organic, healthy food. FINALLY! I took a picture I was so excited lol. It was bomb. I got Tuna Salad Niciose and Jasmine Green Tea and was completely happy. The plan was to do something in Albuquerque for the day and take a little break from driving, see whats up out ... read more

So here we go. We are not bloggers. Never have been and probably never will be. But hopefully we will have fun with this and be able to share our experiences with others. We are based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. This is where we met and this is where we want to conquer the world from. Our story is as follows: We both love to travel. My whole pick-up line kind of revolved around traveling. ( Nikkie here, he made me think after he said that he wanted to find a "nice girl" to travel with :) About 6 months into us knowing each other, we found these 2 books - a 1001 things to do before you die for the US/ Canada and one for the world. Along the way we also picked up ... read more

Fell asleep last night before Sister Act even ended. I should be punished. Left this morning for the Four Corners, which is where Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico all meet up. I really liked it a lot. It was a lot of fun telling people that I was in 4 different states at once. Stopped in Cortez, Colorado for gas and lunch, lots of people in cowboy hats. Still more hitch hikers which I find so bizarre. Unfortunately for them, there's no room in the car. At one point yesterday we passed a really tiny gas station, and the sign out front said, "Lotto-Guns-Ammo-Beer". Ah yes, all of the necessities. It continued to rain all day today which was kind of lame, but at least it was not a million degrees like yesterday and the ... read more

We left dreary Flagstaff and drove across the rest of northern Arizona towards the Four Corners. In doing so we drove through the Navajo and Hopi Nations ... and our phones kept changing times every time we pulled a signal from somewhere else. It was moderately annoying. Buy by the time we approached the Four Corners we were firmly in Navajo Territory and therefore officially in the Mountain Daylight Time. The Four Corners itself is just strange. We know that they think it is in the wrong spot, but that doesn't change anything. Move the monument a mile in any direction and it all looks the same, so shush. It's not like the signs saying "Welcome to ______" are always in the right spot either (unless you are crossing some obvious boundary, like a river). Anyway, ... read more

I parted from my two friends on February 15th. Anahi returned to Venezuela and I proceeded on to New Mexico. Since the 1970’s when I discovered the artist Georgia O’Keefe, I have cherished a desire to see New Mexico. My interest in Native American culture since I was little has fuelled this desire, as many Indian pueblos still exist and function, albeit in quite a different form from the ancient ways. Thus, was I drawn to the stunning landscape and rich and deep culture of New Mexico, and being relatively nearby in Mexico, I thought I would take advantage of the opportunity to visit for a while. In all I spent about 10 days in New Mexico, arriving first in Albuquerque where the international airport is. I had forgotten just what a car culture North America ... read more

It was a family trip to watch my nephew play in a regional baseball tournament. We drove from Denver and made a stop in Santa Fe for a delicious lunch in the old town center at the Anasazi Restaurant at the Anasazi Inn. I had a delious sesame crusted salmon entree served perfectly rare. The rest of the family ordered other items such as the Buffalo Burger, Beef Fajitas, Ahi Tuna Tostada and the chicken enchilada. All of the entrees scored an A+ for presentation and food quality. The service was also great. While lunch was a bit on the pricey side ($10 to $15 per entree), we felt it was good value for the money. We walked off lunch around the old town center and made a bee line for Ecco gelato. Some of the ... read more

Last night we stayed in a little campground on old Route 66. The wind died early in the evening and didn't pick up again until this morning. We fought strong headwinds all day, cutting our gas mileage by 25%. We drove through the high plains of the Texas panhandle with the winds roaring. We stopped outside Amarillo at the Cadillac Ranch so Gena and I could take pictures. The winds nearly blew us away, but we got our pics and Gena even added a bit of graffiti of her own. Every time we stopped we had to fight the winds, getting in and out of the cars, and walking across the parking lots. The view from the rest area west of Shamrock, TX was terrific, but the winds were pretty potent, cold, too. It blew all ... read more
