This morning we got up and guess what….it stopped raining!!!!! You know it only rained one day but it was cold and wet and raining real hard!!! We were supposed to have good weather the remainder of the time we were in North Conway. We drove to town as Ed needed a fishing license. He also wanted to go to a fly shop he heard about. Sadly it was closed on Tuesdays. We learned we could get his license at Wal Mart so that’s where we headed but first there was an LL Bean Outlet here in town. You’d think we’d had our fill of LL Bean but apparently not. Ed, Terry, and I were the real shoppers. Karen, not too much. I thought this store had better merchandise and was better organized than the one ... read more

Rain, rain go away!!! This was a day of rain, rain, Rain!! It started raining when I went outside to start loading the car….It never stopped!!! Today was a travel day from Freeport, Maine to North Conway, New Hampshire. This is the cabin Terry pick out because of the fishing stream in the backyard. It wasn’t a long trip (only about 2 hours) but it was going to rain all the way there. On top of that, because of his injury, Terry wasn’t going to be able to fish!! When we left our barn apartment, we drove into Freeport. I noticed a McDonalds there that was in a house and I wanted to check it out. Of course it was raining. I got a few pictures but didn’t go inside. It was a neat place and ... read more

Well here is another blog update for your enjoyment. I’ve done what is called a quiet publish of the blog so if you’ve not read anything since I published Day 24 a while back, then go and have a read and keep posting your comments as you read them if you find anything interesting or have any questions as they are always great to read and sometimes funny too ! So as of today you can keep reading through until Blog Day # 30. Big sleep after a big day and we did not get up until after 8 and had a quick breakfast of bran cereal, strawberry yoghurt and some cream cheese on toast and we hit the road around 9am. Today it is cold around 4 degrees and cloudy with maximum expected of around ... read more

We were up nice and early (or should I just say early as the temperature is only 2 degrees outside !). I have put on 5 layers of clothing today for the trip to the Sunday River Golf Club. It was about 30 minutes drive away from the hotel and hit off time was booked for 8.30 am so we left around 7.15 am after breakfast so I would have time to collect my rental clubs, and get a warm up and be ready to play. Kerry was waiting in the pro shop whilst I was warming up keeping warm and looking for any nice souvenir mementos. They gave me a set of fairly new Callaway clubs and off to the range I went and I was quite surprised how well I was hitting the woods ... read more

Geo: 44.0536, -71.1289After we packed up we headed down the cost and stopped at Goose Rocks Beach which was rocky and interesting as the mist was rolling back in again. We kept heading South and saw some beautiful houses and beach at Marshall Point.Headed onto Kennebunkport which again was another cute little harbour with little shops and lots of boats, not that our GPS could get us there. They are starting to set up for Halloween as all the businesses get involved and have started preparing their displays. We were keen to continue heading South to Ogunquit and Portsmouth but we still had a 2 hour drive ahead to the White Mountains. So off we went.Maine was in all as pretty as a picture. The houses are generally large and beautifully maintained with manicured lawns and ... read more

Boston to Portland, Maine Its downtown on the Metro to pick up the car we have hired for 2 weeks to travel New England and enjoy the changing colours of the autumn foliage that the area is famous for. It’s ‘rush hour’ at Alamo as there are queues out of the door. However, they process folks pretty quick & we are soon on our way out of central Boston. This is when we realise that the city and its neighbourhoods go on forever. It’s a bit dismal and raining as we take Route 1 out of town. We stop at Newburyport for a quick break and pop into the Plum Island Coffee Roasters café by the sea. It’s a great location and the coffee is good. Soon we are travelling into New Hampshire and the scene ... read more

Hi folks What a wonderful drive .... we set off early morning yesterday and took all day in beautiful autumn sunshine to drive along the Kancamagus Highway and then in a loop north from Woodstock , Franconia State Park and back via Crawford Notch and Bartlett , then along Bear Notch Road to our base in North Conway (- probably about 120 miles ) There are many scenic overlooks and waterfalls and hikingtrails along the way....beautiful mountain views and colours of the trees all along the route. The best hike of the day was Flume Gorge - where a basalt dike has cut into the granite at a geological fault and as it erodes more quickly than granite there is a steep sided canyon with the river running through. Wooden walkways and steps enable you to ... read more

Once again we have struck lucky with our choice of places to stay...this week we are based in North Conway in a timeshare unit at Eastren Slope Inn. It is an old American Historic Building - very quaint and we have a nice two floor condo in the main hotel building. It's a great location as it is right on Main Street and there are lots of great cafes, restaurants, shops to see on our doorstop. But I am getting ahead of myself - we had a good drive here from the Cape - 280 miles - we started off along the KIngs Highway along the Cape ( a slower road but very picturesque with quaint villages and houses dotted all along this )and we decided not to drive back through Boston but took a wide ... read more
