Geo: 44.0536, -71.1289After we packed up we headed down the cost and stopped at Goose Rocks Beach which was rocky and interesting as the mist was rolling back in again. We kept heading South and saw some beautiful houses and beach at Marshall Point.Headed onto Kennebunkport which again was another cute little harbour with little shops and lots of boats, not that our GPS could get us there. They are starting to set up for Halloween as all the businesses get involved and have started preparing their displays. We were keen to continue heading South to Ogunquit and Portsmouth but we still had a 2 hour drive ahead to the White Mountains. So off we went.Maine was in all as pretty as a picture. The houses are generally large and beautifully maintained with manicured lawns and ... read more

Boston to Portland, Maine Its downtown on the Metro to pick up the car we have hired for 2 weeks to travel New England and enjoy the changing colours of the autumn foliage that the area is famous for. It’s ‘rush hour’ at Alamo as there are queues out of the door. However, they process folks pretty quick & we are soon on our way out of central Boston. This is when we realise that the city and its neighbourhoods go on forever. It’s a bit dismal and raining as we take Route 1 out of town. We stop at Newburyport for a quick break and pop into the Plum Island Coffee Roasters café by the sea. It’s a great location and the coffee is good. Soon we are travelling into New Hampshire and the scene ... read more

Geo: 44.0441, -71.1144We are completely fogged in today and you can't see the mountains at all.Yesterday it unfortunately rained all day and we had a hailstorm in the evening so we couldn't go on the auto road up to Mount Washington or do much of anything outside. It was very disappointing to not get at least one fine day to do some hiking as there are marked trails everywhere including a vast area that leads out from the condo. This is one place I would love to come back to in summer or autumn when the weather is likely to be better. We did manage to get out and see another of their covered bridges yesterday. It was also one that you could drive through. It is impressive that they have maintained so many that you are ... read more

Geo: 44.0441, -71.1143We left St Andrews this morning and travelled through the beautiful state of Maine after crossing the US border again. The lady at the border was obviously bored as we were the only ones there and asked us all sorts of questions including perplexing ones like whether we had bought souvenirs like t-shirts and magnets in Canada. Go figure! We saw some deer feeding on the outskirts of the forest on the way which was a pleasant surprise and added to the gorgeous countryside which was again dotted with lakes and rivers and elaborate houses with attached barns. We reached our condominium in the White mountains just after lunch and ventured down to have a look at the outlet stores which were just down the road. Most of the merchandise at the stores was 70% off ... read more

Geo: 44.0441, -71.1144The White mountains national park is stunningly beautiful and studded with waterfalls and fast flowing streams. We tried to go up the road to the top of Mount Washington this morning but of course the weather has turned and it is raining again. The wind at the top was blowing hard and the top was in cloud so the attendants at the entrance booth recomended not to bother. Since there is a sizeable fee to drive the road we decided to wait until tomorrow. On the way up to the auto route a passing car flashed its light at us and as we rounded the bend there was a moose and her calf standing by the side of the road. I managed to get a couple of photos before they disappeared into the forest. We ... read more

Hi folks What a wonderful drive .... we set off early morning yesterday and took all day in beautiful autumn sunshine to drive along the Kancamagus Highway and then in a loop north from Woodstock , Franconia State Park and back via Crawford Notch and Bartlett , then along Bear Notch Road to our base in North Conway (- probably about 120 miles ) There are many scenic overlooks and waterfalls and hikingtrails along the way....beautiful mountain views and colours of the trees all along the route. The best hike of the day was Flume Gorge - where a basalt dike has cut into the granite at a geological fault and as it erodes more quickly than granite there is a steep sided canyon with the river running through. Wooden walkways and steps enable you to ... read more

Once again we have struck lucky with our choice of places to stay...this week we are based in North Conway in a timeshare unit at Eastren Slope Inn. It is an old American Historic Building - very quaint and we have a nice two floor condo in the main hotel building. It's a great location as it is right on Main Street and there are lots of great cafes, restaurants, shops to see on our doorstop. But I am getting ahead of myself - we had a good drive here from the Cape - 280 miles - we started off along the KIngs Highway along the Cape ( a slower road but very picturesque with quaint villages and houses dotted all along this )and we decided not to drive back through Boston but took a wide ... read more

Spring in CO brought snow to Breckenridge and our property in Fairplay - 35 degrees - now I know why we didn't move there! We ended out trip in Colorado with visits to my cousin, Lionel & his wife, Jan in Colorado Springs and my nephew, Eric & his wife, Kamrin Boulder, CO. We had great visits, delicious food and wine, but cool weather! Snowed on the way to Rocky Mtn. Park, so we turned around and found a fruit stand and bought a cherry pie to share with everyone for dessert instead! Found a great brewpub - Southern Sun Brewery close to Eric's for great happy hour -- beer and homecut fries - a heaping basket for $1.75! Had delicious salmon and chicken done on the green egg with a great salad (something we missed ... read more
