... read more

blog 08-02-15 Yellowstone Nat'l Park This morning was an early one by choice. It has been so hot here during the day I thought we'd get an early start for Yellowstone. It is about 45 miles down the road and when the speed limit is 70 it doesn't take very long. I was packed and out of here by 8:10 am, a new record for me. We had lots of water and a snack so I knew we wouldn't starve. It took me 15 min to go the first mile. The campground is on a small 2 lane road used mostly for farm equipment and since the campground is here there are campers too. Very little traffic. As I headed out there were 2 hawks on the irrigation equipment right next to the road, how was ... read more

Red Lodge to Livingston I was rudely awakened at 5:45 AM by dear Oscar wanting to go outside. This is very different behavior so I thought I better heed the warning. Out we went and he proceeded to eat grass like a cow. There was no stopping him so I just watched for a while and enjoyed the creek. Finally we went inside and he seemed content for about 45 min when we had to repeat the outside trip. I finally decided to stay up so I finished my blog from last night, I fell asleep at the computer. He seemed to settle down but never did have his breakfast. I had to move this morning so it was time to get the camp in order. It took a while but by 10 we were ready ... read more

Day 12. Gardiner to Livingston A bright sunny morning and breakfast at the Mexican next door, with elk doing their rutting across the road in the distance with the drumlins behind. Breakfast was slow and it was nearly 10 am before we got out of town. Luckily it was mostly downhill today so time did not matter. We did 20 miles along the valley following the Yellowstone river and then took a minor road for 30 miles along a stunning valley called appropriately Paradise Valley. Wildlife was in abundance if you looked: Osprey, Red Tailed Hawks, Gooseanders and Mule Deer. in parts it looked quite deprived with a lot of rough shacks and untidy properties but as we went nearer to Livingston there were nice new houses being built. I liked the rough properties since there ... read more

Geo: 45.6625, -110.56After traveling along I90 in Montana, we had to make a major detour for about 40 minutes due to road work. We meandered around some back roads and I still don't know what town we ended up re-entering the interstate from. We stopped in Billings at a Walmart so that Naomi could get another sketch pad. She had finally filled up her old one. We also stopped for a late lunch at a Del Taco! I love Del Taco! We then headed back on the road.... read more
