Entry 2 in the Q and A session... after this one we'll get to talking about fun stuff...! 3. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO SAVE FOR THIS!? This is actually often the first question that people ask. I think that the question itself is really just a thinly disguised 'lure', not-so-subtly designed to draw out the answer to the 'real' question ("How much is this costing you!?" - "How much money do you have!?") Kind of like when a woman asks his husband "What are you doing tonight?", when really she means "What are WE doing tonight?" - "What are YOU doing for ME tonight?". In fact, several people have been bold enough to just ask it outright. I appreciate that. But no-one should feel bad about wanting to know this... it's natural... or at least, ... read more

As a quasi grad school graduation gift to Axel, Laurie decided to take him for an exciting day in St. Louis. We started the day by strolling through some of the cute downtown neighborhood and checking out the flooding situation near the Arch. Because of the massive amount of rain and flooding, the parking area on the levy by the St. Louis arch was completely under water. It really brought home the impact of this natural disaster and its effect on all of the local farmers and homes. The highlight of the day was the St. Louis City Museum http://www.citymuseum.org/home.asp . Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. The brainchild of internationally acclaimed ... read more

Okay folks. It is finally here. The blog. Isn't it fun!? Ha ha ha. After much harassment we have finally set this up... there is loads to cover, and we've never done anything computer savvy like this before, so for the sakes of breaking us all in gently, we're going to try and keep this one short and simple... photos, maps and pretty accoutrements like that will no doubt follow in the entries of the future, but for now, light a candle and enjoy the rustic feel of entry number 1... If you're here, you most likely are a friends, and already have a pretty good idea of what we're up to. If you're here by random chance then WELCOME... and please read on. If we get a million visitors or something ridiculous, maybe we can ... read more

St. Louis ZooSt. Louis Zoo was just named the best zoo in the U.S., and it's free!!!We decided to go with some friends and had a really good time. The zoo is really big and is well maintained. They create "natural habitats" for the animals to live in, not cages. We spent about 4 hours at the zoo and still did not see everything. More pics to come.... read more

We wake up to heavy rain in St. Louis—first time since the Amarillo deluge way back when on the trip except that lasted for only a few minutes. The rain here doesn’t let up but we have no choice and must go to the Arch. Driving through downtown, we see some cool old historic buildings like Union Station and the old Courthouse but much of downtown seems to have been bulldozed and replaced with buildings from the 1970s through 1990s. This is even more evident when we get up to the top of the Arch and get a better view of the layout of the city. We see a fountain with a bronze statue of a runner in the center but the water is orange. Yes, orange. Cathy calls it the Tang fountain. No obvious ... read more

We set out for St. Louis, Missouri to visit the Thomases -- more "farm" friends -- the Thomases moved away from Carper's Farm one year ago (almost to this exact date!). We met the newest addition to their gorgeous family...Jennifer and Larry's grandaughter, "Emma." "Aunt Amanda" beams with Emma in her arms! Nora and Emily loved seeing Amanda...hanging out with their friend in her very cool room...the only thing missing was Caroline:-( What gracious hosts Larry and Jennifer are! Jennifer whipped up a yummy dinner for us even though she and Larry had to leave for the evening to attend a formal work function. The next morning was Palm Sunday and we were able to rouse the kids and attend Mass -- it was a beautiful service...Nora and Emily enjoyed sandwiching Amanda in the pew...as ... read more

(This is actually from a while ago.) We stayed at the Adams Mark Hotel ($$) which was right by the arch. It was a pretty place. The people were pretty friendly. They were having a party by the Arch the first day we were there and we met some nice guys that got pretty excited when they found out we were Californians. So us Stocktonians did our "play" for the audience on Saturday night and got 2nd place. Not too bad. Don't have many pictures at the moment, but as soon as I find them I'll post them.... lol. Until next time, Chrystal... read more

We are now on our way to Jenks to see our friend Jan. New Year's Eve was pretty uneventful. We had dinner at the casino which was your usual casino buffet fare. We were tired from walking around downtown all afternoon. Had a few brews but went to bed just after midnight. It was pretty cold last night and this morning. BUT...... NO SNOW!!!! It is sunny today and not a cloud in the sky. Meghan and Matt got us a GPS system and it is fantastic! We just program it, it tells us where to turn, when to do it etc!!! It was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out (being the geek at heart....), it was easy to configure. So no new pictures today. I will take some when we ... read more

It had been two and a half years since the three of us had been together, and after spending the 4 most formative years of our lives with each other that is entirely too long. Following out college years in Milwaukee I had returned to Minneapolis, Josh had returned to St. Louis, and Novot stayed and began a career. Fast forward a year and a half, one "real job," one bittersweer homecoming, one "real resignation," and one return to Milwaukee and I decided it was time to stop talking about getting together again and actually do it. So, on the leading edge of the first real snow storm of the season Novot and I hopped an Embraer from Gen. Mitchell to Lambert Field and the three of us were back together again, at least for the ... read more

OK, so in case you don't know or haven't heard yet... The Cardinals won the world series in game 5. It was actually the fourth game, but it got delayed due to the rain and ended up being played on Friday. Either way we got to be there and had a phenomenal time. I know I mentioned that the Red Bull Soap Box Races were in town. Well people from all over the US packed up their home built contraptions and drove to St Louis to compete. Didn't get to see the race but we were in the parking structure that we kept sneeking into downtown when one of the entries misjudged the hieght of their load and got stuck inside the garage. Matt came running to tell me to come and see. The school bus ... read more
