We wake up to heavy rain in St. Louis—first time since the Amarillo deluge way back when on the trip except that lasted for only a few minutes. The rain here doesn’t let up but we have no choice and must go to the Arch. Driving through downtown, we see some cool old historic buildings like Union Station and the old Courthouse but much of downtown seems to have been bulldozed and replaced with buildings from the 1970s through 1990s. This is even more evident when we get up to the top of the Arch and get a better view of the layout of the city. We see a fountain with a bronze statue of a runner in the center but the water is orange. Yes, orange. Cathy calls it the Tang fountain. No obvious ... read more

We set out for St. Louis, Missouri to visit the Thomases -- more "farm" friends -- the Thomases moved away from Carper's Farm one year ago (almost to this exact date!). We met the newest addition to their gorgeous family...Jennifer and Larry's grandaughter, "Emma." "Aunt Amanda" beams with Emma in her arms! Nora and Emily loved seeing Amanda...hanging out with their friend in her very cool room...the only thing missing was Caroline:-( What gracious hosts Larry and Jennifer are! Jennifer whipped up a yummy dinner for us even though she and Larry had to leave for the evening to attend a formal work function. The next morning was Palm Sunday and we were able to rouse the kids and attend Mass -- it was a beautiful service...Nora and Emily enjoyed sandwiching Amanda in the ... read more

(This is actually from a while ago.) We stayed at the Adams Mark Hotel ($$) which was right by the arch. It was a pretty place. The people were pretty friendly. They were having a party by the Arch the first day we were there and we met some nice guys that got pretty excited when they found out we were Californians. So us Stocktonians did our "play" for the audience on Saturday night and got 2nd place. Not too bad. Don't have many pictures at the moment, but as soon as I find them I'll post them.... lol. Until next time, Chrystal... read more

We are now on our way to Jenks to see our friend Jan. New Year's Eve was pretty uneventful. We had dinner at the casino which was your usual casino buffet fare. We were tired from walking around downtown all afternoon. Had a few brews but went to bed just after midnight. It was pretty cold last night and this morning. BUT...... NO SNOW!!!! It is sunny today and not a cloud in the sky. Meghan and Matt got us a GPS system and it is fantastic! We just program it, it tells us where to turn, when to do it etc!!! It was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out (being the geek at heart....), it was easy to configure. So no new pictures today. I will take some when we ... read more

It had been two and a half years since the three of us had been together, and after spending the 4 most formative years of our lives with each other that is entirely too long. Following out college years in Milwaukee I had returned to Minneapolis, Josh had returned to St. Louis, and Novot stayed and began a career. Fast forward a year and a half, one "real job," one bittersweer homecoming, one "real resignation," and one return to Milwaukee and I decided it was time to stop talking about getting together again and actually do it. So, on the leading edge of the first real snow storm of the season Novot and I hopped an Embraer from Gen. Mitchell to Lambert Field and the three of us were back together again, at least for the ... read more

OK, so in case you don't know or haven't heard yet... The Cardinals won the world series in game 5. It was actually the fourth game, but it got delayed due to the rain and ended up being played on Friday. Either way we got to be there and had a phenomenal time. I know I mentioned that the Red Bull Soap Box Races were in town. Well people from all over the US packed up their home built contraptions and drove to St Louis to compete. Didn't get to see the race but we were in the parking structure that we kept sneeking into downtown when one of the entries misjudged the hieght of their load and got stuck inside the garage. Matt came running to tell me to come and see. The school bus ... read more

I know its been a while. Sorry about that. But I have been home tending to things and trying to be normal for a while. Unsuccessfully though. So Im off. A buddy of mine is playing for the Cardinals so we just had to come and lend our support. For those of you who are not in the 'know', Im talking about baseball. Its a game that we have here in America that is a take on cricket. Better though. Just because Im home doesnt mean that my feet are nailed to the ground. There are plenty of things that I can do to get myself into trouble while still on US soil. So Im in St Louis with my brother Matt. Been here a few days and there is too much to do. I'm still in St. Louis. My momma just drove out here a few days ago to help my sister with the workshop she's been working on presenting for about year now. Last night, my mom, sister, bro-in -law and I collated 150, 28-page programs after chinese food. My bro-in-law and I put together 400 CDs from scratch assembly line style and I did 50 DVDs (putting the case together and the covers, back covers and contents. What I did was only about 5% of all the work she's been doing for this workshop about technology for special needs children all over the US. We had people flyin' in from everywhere! I've met so many people! Including a 17 year old boy who couldn't speak or use his hands, but could not stop staring at me, a ... read more

I'm now in St. Louis with my sister, Ingrid, Peter, Pierce, Sarah and Grethen and HUMPHREY! who has been acting like a puppy ever since the temperature went down a tad. Pierce is one of those 8 year olds you look at and say "you're gonna be gorgeous when you grow up." Yeah, I know he's my nephew, but it's true. He's in third grade now and I got to see his classroom when I went to his open house. When I went in everyone I met said "Oh, yes, he told us in class today that his aunt was coming!" That made me feel awesome. I'm someone to brag about! He has some awesome games that are really fun to talk about. The one he's playing right now with a bunch of friens of his ... read more
