Today was another good day. Although I was woken up at 3:00 AM by people talking and microwaving stuff and was tired most of the morning and early afternoon, we still all had a good time. Started off with some grubbin' Greek food, and then headed out to Forrest Park to check out their history museum. St. Louis was the site for one of the World Fairs. back when they used to have them, and of course Charles Lindbergh, first to make a solo trans-Atlantic flight, was from St. Louis, so they were hightlights of the museum. I was mostly impressed that there was another museum that was not only open, but free of charge! very cool. After the museum, we headed downtown to Union Station. It is an old train station that was converted into ... read more

You know, it's amazing when you are in a city that not only has its attractions open to everyone, but also doesn't charge for it! Wow! But first things first. Started out with a breakfast at the one and only Bob Evans (sorry Mr. Meade, I forgot to take a photo for you). Nothing like an omelette to start out your day! Frank had to work, so Paul, Matt, Thom and I went to the Science Museum in Forrest Park. For those of you who do not know, Forrest Park is the second-largest metropolitan park in the United State, behind only New York's Central Park. There are quite a few museums, trails, riverways to boat on, things to see and do there. We spent a large chunk of the afternoon in the Science Museum. They had ... read more

So I left Dallas and my buddy Ronn behind yesterday and headed out to St. Louis area, particularly to O’Fallon, Missouri. This meant driving through the rest of Texas, Oklahoma, and most of Missouri. That was a LOT of driving for one day, but after driving through West Texas it wouldn’t be a problem. So I figured I would try to get one good night’s sleep before I left. Went to bed around 1 AM (that is much better than what I have been averaging, believe me). Opened the window a few inches because there was a light breeze that was semi-warm blowing in, and it felt good. Fell asleep almost instantly, but around 2:30 AM was woken up by some rumbling noises. Figured it was just some semi trucks as Ronn’s aunt and uncle live ... read more

Karen and I ascended St. Louis' Gateway Arch, the morning of November 12, 1983. From the top of the Arch, we saw Busch Stadium on one side and the Mississippi River and McDonald's riverboat, where we ate lunch, on the other. The Arch is huge. It is part of the Thomas Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The museum below stresses the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition the following year. These events kicked off America's movement west. Karen took a picture of me in front of a stagecoach. I took one of her in front of a covered wagon. Leaving the Arch, we sought out the zoo. We made a hurried tour through the zoo because of the weather and because Karen was pregnant. The highlight was the penguins. They were the first I had ... read more

Left Chris' place early yesterday, but my bus of choice was sold out, so I had another 5 hour wait in a bus terminal until 3.30, meaning I didn't get to St Louis until 11pm. I'd decided to splash out though and book myself into the Hilton here though, so at least I had a night of relative luxury ahead. Awoke at 10, and head a quite expensive omelette for breakfast before going to see the sights. First on the list was the Gateway Arch, a huge structure representing the status of St Louis as Gateway to the west. It was pretty impressive, but I gave the ride to the top a miss, I'd read it wasn't really worthwhile. After this, I visited the Museum of Westward Expansion (mostly because it was free) which documented the ... read more

Hello again, I'm going to try to keep this up. At least until I get off the road this Spring. As you can tell I made it home just fine. My plane landed on the 6th and I was back to work on the 12th. It's been full on ever since. I spent one week in Nashville but now in the midst of 10 weeks on the road, which will be followed by another 7 weeks on the road. I'll post when I can, mostly just to keep my sanity I'm not really concerned if people are reading it or not. I don't get much opportunity for pictures but if I did they would be the inside of hotel rooms which basically all look the same anyway. I had a great Thanksgiving. I tried to tell ... read more

From St Louis we traveled to Kansas City, MO. We stayed at the Basswood Country Resort in Platte City, MO. I spent Thanksgiving with my Aunt Jane, Uncle Frank, Cousin Kathy and her husband Ed at their beautiful house. On Saturday and Sunday I spent the day at my Uncle Frank and Aunt Jane's house, reminiscing about old time. On Sunday Kathy and Ed came over with their two grandkids. Basswood is a very nice RV park. It would be even nicer in the summer. I had a pull thru with full hookups. They had nice facilities and I highly recommend it.... read more

Sunday, September 16, 2007 Hello everyone! I am happy to report that I had a safe trip back to the US, and have been spending the past couple of days hanging out with friends and family, watching the Cardinals’ hope of an insane comeback in the NL Central collapse to the tune of a 9-game losing streak, and generally reacquainting myself with life here in St. Louis, all while nursing a minor case of jetlag… It has been a good few days, for sure. Now that I’m at home, I’m making it a top priority to get this blog all caught up. Knowing I already have a TON of stuff I’ve got to do while I’m home, we’ll see how that goes… But I am going to try… Anyway, as far as being back in the ... read more
