“I can change the world, with my own 2 hands! Make a better place, oh with my own 2 hands, with my own, with my own 2 hands!” A couple of thousand people with both hands in the air singing along, holy shit this concert was awesome!! After a full on week @ camp me n Ying (1 of the US staff) drove to Royal Oak a nicer suburb of Detroit. The Royal Oak music theater is an old school theater with big high ceilings, balcony, seating and plenty of standing room. When we got there a guy called Tim Freud was playing and he was pretty good. I went to get a beer from 1 of the downstairs bars and had to wait 15 mins to get it and it was my first one so ... read more

AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE… OYE,OYE,OYE was herd all around the camp this week! This week’s theme was countries and me n Mel (a local) had the Australian group. I would yell aussie, aussie, aussie and they had to yell oye, oye, oye back and come over to me and listen to what I had to tell them and it worked real good! This week we had 18 little boys 5-7 yrs and RICHARD ( the autistic kid)again!! I also had PM care this week so me n Liz ( a local) had to look after kids that get picked up as late as 6:30. But we would go get a snack then go swimming and play on the sports court so it wasn’t too bad. The Friday before mum sent me a qantas vegemite pack and a jar of ... read more

Hey Everyone, We are back in America and I decided to put one last post up for the sake of closure. We went through the whole range of emotions, from joy to anger, as you may have seen from some of our posts. I'm sure it helped us to become more unified. We did a lot, saw a lot, and learned a lot. Now we just need to do more. It would be easy to preach to you about how spiritual we are for going to India. It would be easy to accept praise from everyone about our willingness to sacrifice. It would be easy to be a storyteller. But that would be a disservice to the people that we met. I love America and all the freedom and wealth we have. I am definitely not ... read more

PUT YOUR PANTS ON!!! And stop running around naked! The amount of times that I have had to say that in the boys changing rooms. Little boys luv to run around in their b’day suits and flash each other. This week if any of the boy groups had swimming and had to get changed I had to be there helping them get dressed, undressed, sunscreen on and making sure they don’t run wild because they would if I wasn’t there! Because there are only 3 guy counselors and Ying is tower instructor most of the time so he isn’t a counselor and Ryan is with the A-team the older group and they do different shit to the rest of the camp. And we lost Charles (the African) how had to go up to the resident camp ... read more

Americans love their fireworks! Every person in the U.S lets off over a pound's worth each a year if you divide it All up! The 4th of July weekend (independence day or something) sounded like we where at war and the artillery was going sic, BOOM, BOOM!! non stop all weekend. It was tops though because the opposite end of our little lake are houses and they let off heaps. So we got to watch them lettin em off over the lake all night. The Monday was 4th of July and a holiday for the yanks but we had to work, only 7 kids turned up! So we only had to work half a day each, which was tops cause we still get payed for it! The rest of the week we had a few more ... read more

Go the Tigers! I was so pumped to be getting out of camp, even though we get weekends and afternoons off we can only go somewhere if the American staff take us out. And since I was with Detroit fans and I was staying in Michigan I became a Detroit tigers fan. We finished on Friday and got set and Ying drove us to Detroit. But in his little 2 door sporty car we had me and him in the front and Gaby from Mexico, Sara from Denmark, Nstia from Russia and aika from Kazakhstan in the back. So the car was riding low to the ground. We get to Detroit and couldn't find the stadium so we drove around the ghetto in Detroit for a while trying to find out where to go. So we ... read more

Week 3 was pretty good, the boys where a bit better behaved. Some of this weeks boys where funny little characters and they all luv the croc hunter. They all ask if I know him and if i wrestle crocodiles! So for the talent show this week we did a croc hunter skit. We made a cardboard croc and painted him up and named him mean Murry and had it strapped it to 2 boys backs and the rest of us where all croc hunters. And we did our best Steve impressions and jumped on Murry and carried him off to Australia zoo. But It didn't go to plan due to some boys forgetting what to do or adding a bit of improve in but all the parents had a good laugh. They all wanted to ... read more

Week 2 was pretty similar to last week with a few variations. Firstly our camp director Dustin got sick and was in hospital for most of the week so we had the big boss Bear in working with us. He is a bit full on and a bit of a natzy, you can't wear pluggers or sandals without back straps and we had to carry our first aid kits at all times. And he made a heap of changes which resulted in nobody knowing what the hell was going on, but we managed and it was all good. I had a mostly different group of kids, I had 3 kids from last week and 4 new little devils! These kids where little shits, fighting, crying, not wanting to participate or listen to me! And each day ... read more

I started off the first day, week 1 with Am care, which is 2 staff members are assigned to look after any kids that get dropped to camp as early as 6:50am. But it was pretty good because we ( me and Gabby a Mexican chick) only had 4 kids and they arrived a bit before 8 so we had breakfast with them and played a few games and then the other kids arrived. Then we would raise the flag and the kids would do the pledge allegiance and then we would go off to our activities in our groups. There were 2 counselors to each group of kids and me and Kirsten (a local) got a group of boys aged 6-9 yrs. They weren't too bad but they loved to fight and screw around. First ... read more

I arrived in Detroit on the 1st of June and was met by one of the camp staff, that by the way has been fired for swearing and being rough with the kids. But anyway I got settled in and had a day to chill at camp and have a look around. Then I went to a place called Alma for 3 days, 2 hours from camp to do an American red cross lifeguard course. The next week we had a few days of staff training then a school group for 3 days. I taught a few canoe lessons a day and it was pretty Cruisey. We had camp fire on the last night and sung a heap of songs and they get stuck in your head, it's real bad, but a heap of fun. The ... read more
