Welcome to the Detroit airport. First time ever flying through here. Really nice. Monorail inside the terminal going over our heads every few minutes. Little Caesar's in the food court. Nice last grab of Western food. The plane is a double-decker, so first time for that as well. Hope there aren't any snakes. 14 hours and we'll be in Tokyo.... read more

This weekend we spent in Detroit. We'd heard before, that this is one of the world's most bizarre cities in that the whole downtown is more or less evacuated and everyone lives outside, and this was also more or less true. We could stay at a dorm at Wayne State university, which is perhaps a couple of kilometers from the city centre, and here there were some activities, but we realised that they all depended on the university. Friday evening, we went around in a car with our acquaintances here, Mark (who's actually from West Virginia and still NOT a hillbilly, he pointed out), Susan and Eric. We got to see all the empty spaces around town and Susan could tell us what had been there, and it did feel a bit like Lodz in Poland ... read more

Well, the United States of Ameeeeeeericaaaaa is exactly as I had envisaged, Big cars, Big Hwy's and Big all over. After 30hrs of travelling it was good to finally take a shower and get some shut eye! The flight over was smooth and all transit points were quite simple. Going through customs at JFk (New York) wasn't as bad as I thought, as long as your up front as to whatever your carrying it's all go. We didn't end up getting the Chev Impala SUV, however, the Ford Explorer SUV isn't a bad ride. The first time I decided to turn the tv on in my room I landed on the Flash News Update...and wasn't that just the biggest mistake ever cos it had a chart with the latest crime figures in Detroit for this ... read more

Tuesday night after camp me n Kim went to the Royal Oak music theater. We got there to see a band called the Secret Machines just starting, who were pretty good. There was about half the amount of people there was for Ben Harper. Which was good because it wasn’t too crowded and we got up nice and close. When they came out the singer had shaved his beard and he looked a bit pretty boyish, with his voice not what I expected him to look like. It was super loud and poor Kim was half deaf for a few days after. The Kings where really good live and I had a top time, thanks for coming Kim, you’re a champ. ... read more

Last week of camp!! Time has gone so quick it’s crazy. Me n Kim had the older boy group this week. It was a pretty good week, the boys weren’t too badly behaved and on Tuesday I went to see the Kings of Leon in concert. Then on Friday we had our farewell dinner, which was a bit of fun. There was some fun awards like camp flirt and most likely to sing camp songs after camp. Ying made up a slide show of the summer on power point, which was a laugh. No more thursday nights, no more "i miss my mum i wanna go home", no more let's all go canoeing, no more buddy check, no more short necked buzards & no more EXCUSE ME WHATS YOUR NAME!! LOOK @ ME!!!! This weeks theme was super hero’s and me n Ying had the batman boys. ( the older boys 7-10) I also had shitty bus duty with Ryan a local doing an art major at college (he’s real good at drawing comic book characters! This gave me an extra 4 hrs every day, which sucks! One morning we left on of the little girls at the Y.M.C.A where we picked all the kids up and had to go back and get her, making us an hour late to camp. But it wasn’t entirely our fault, no one told us to go inside and sign her out because the parents usually come to the bus. For talent show Dustin gave us a skit from a scout skit website to do. It was about an elevator, quick and easy. ... read more
