For several decades in a Baltimore cemetery, someone has been dressing up, walking over to Edgar Allan Poe's grave, drinking a glass of cognac and leaving the rest of the bottle and flowers for the poet Edgar Allan Poe. Happy Birthday Poe, long dead but still getting cognac every year. Post-life goals! The 'toaster' has never been identified. His last appearance was in 2010 has left space for 'faux toasters' who have carried on the tradition. Some people complain that they have not carried on the original toasters secretive nature and will walk through crowds of people and not leave the flowers in what has been described as a 'distinctive' pattern. I've never been a huge fan of poetry (except for one of my friends who writes hilarious dirty haikus), and have honestly never read any ... read more

Geo: 39.2795, -76.5696Think we all slept pretty well and with our pre-packing last night, our check out went pretty smooth. Grandpa up and showered by 7:00, Grandma by 8:00 and Brennan by 8:30. Times may vary but this has generally been the routine all week. We caught the 9:15 bus (#635), right outside the Hotel Novotel. The stop also serves one of the remote parking lots so the bus was full. At the airport, we didn't know if Air Canada was in Terminal 1 or 2. After asking several "Official" looking people, we were sent back and forth in Terminal 1 before finally getting the right info that we were to be in Terminal 2. {As a side note, we think Brennan was a little disappointed that he didn't get to ice skate at the airport ... read more

Geo: 39.2904, -76.6122It was three summers ago in Glacier NP while hiking that we met a woman who had done the Camino de Santiago. She could not say enough about what a wonderful experience it was. We thought we were hikers, but she was talking about hiking 15 miles a day for more than a month; 500 miles, wow! In today's world what do you do next? Google it, of course. We did a little research and watched a great movie called "The Way" with Martin Sheen as the main character. Then last summer, one Sunday, the Deacon's sermon at St. Richard's in Columbia Falls, was centered around his experience of hiking the Camino the previous year. The hook had been set. As we read more and talked to more people, we were being reeled in. ... read more

August 27th, 8:15 AM, 526 miles; that’s what the mileage said when Michelle loaded our home address into the GPS and hit GO as we sat in the truck just outside of Knoxville. 526 miles, that was all that was left of the Great Adventure we had started on January 21. It was the last of 20,466 miles, the last of 52 RV parks, the last time to dump the tanks, disconnect water and power, bring in the slide-outs, check the turn signals and brake lights, check the oil, kick the tires, double check that the pin was in the hitch, check the straps on the motorcycle, and verify all the RV doors and windows were locked. The last travel pictures. Now all we had to do was safely negotiate that final day of travel and ... read more
