Je n'étais ... read more

Still stressing about the laptops but, with hope in our hearts, we had a nice breakfast at the Embassy Suites. We waited to miss the morning rush hour and used the time to track down an actual human, Patrick, at TSA to work Mission Laptop Recovery. This was a feat and involved tracking down a Supervisor from an old online newspaper article (saying people hardly ever get their stuff and they have rooms full), calling her voice mail and then getting a special number from her message. Score one for Amy’s persistence. Apparently, TSA Lost and Found does everything by voicemail and email and tries to avoid contact (Ummm, maybe this is why no one gets their stuff from the big room full of IPads, Laptops and lost jewelry!) Talking to a person was much more ... read more

Well, if we have to get stuck in an airport for 8 hours, at least it’s before a 45-minute flight to Long Island and not before our 16-hour flight to Asia. But I’m getting ahead of myself. We were only in Maryland for two days, but boy did we cram a lot in! The weather was still pleasantly spring-ish and perfectly sunny, prompting us to spend as much time outdoors as possible. On Monday, we gassed up my sister’s boat and off we headed from Kent Island (in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay) across the choppy waters into historic downtown Annapolis. What an underrated little city! Old brick buildings spread out from the waterfront, some dating back to colonial times (early 1700’s). The dome of the state capitol building and the impressive grounds of the ... read more

We got lucky with finding a mooring ball in Annapolis, (In spite of the Harbormaster's prediction for the Memorial Day weekend). We love the city. So much colonial architecture, history, festive touristy crowd, the "pain killer" cocktails in the waterfront bars and the old friends we got a chance to reconnect with! We visited the state house (the oldest one in continuous use in the country), visited William Paca (on of the four signers of the Declaration of Independence from Mariland. Well they didn't really mean to push for signing it. They were perfectly happy with the class-oriented MD but did not want to piss off the rest of the colonies and kinda reluctantly went along) house and gardens, walked the beautiful streets, the waterfronts, spent some time in our favorite bar with live music (49 ... read more

Solomons Is. is an old oyster outpost on the bay. It is touristy and offers meticulously maintained old houses with docks, a few blocks of board walk along the mile-wide Patuxent river, some nice galleries and small souvenir shops, owners of which often aren't local, coming from NY or NJ. The heart of the island is a great maritime museum, worth a visit. The oyster industry that Solomons was once famous for is long gone but the local watermen supply enough still for local restaurants and bars. There has been the restoration of the oyster beds under way in the region and so after the total collapsein the 70th-80th the oysters are now gradually coming back. And Patuxent oysters are believed to be the fattiest and the tastiest ones as compared to their NY or the ... read more

We have just left the Six Flags in Maryland! The sun was out but it was windy and chilly! The park was closed to the public today for some physics event with students so we pretty much had the park to ourselves! A lot of kids., including myself and my two sisters, did the SkyCoaster! What fun! Our first stop will be New Jersey! I will periodically post our location to help give you an ide of our arrival time! ... read more

We are finally in the hotel and the children are all fast asleep! The kids had a blast at the Golden Corale eating anything and everything! Luckily, the chocolate fountain was still flowing when we left! We arrived at the hotel and unloaded the luggage in the parking lot. As we were trying to get room keys passed out a lightening storm was passing through. It was far enough away but we had the kids get back on the bus until it passed as the chaperones heroically stayed by the luggage! Tomorrow we have breakfast @ 715 with an 830 am departure. Arlington National Cemetery is first on the list followed by lunch, The Holocaust Daniel Story, Washington monument, dinner, then the War Memorials at night! Goodnight! ... read more

North America » United States » Maryland » Baltimore » Inner Harbor February 28th 2015

I was in Baltimore for a couple of days. It started to snow heavily on the second day, towards the afternoon. Instead of being at home and staying warm, the adventure bug in me, tempted me to go outside and experience the snowfall. I was also curious of finding out how the Inner Harbour would look like amidst all that snow. I stepped out of the home, waited for a while and saw the Charm City Circulator bus come by. Once I boarded the bus, I reached the Inner Harbour after some time. There was snow all over. Almost everything that I could see was white with snow. It was windy too. I opened my mouth and could feel the flakes fall into it. The path, the seats on the side, the boats and even the ... read more
