This morning when I woke up, I heard the song "Birthday" by Katy Perry and my immediate first thought and audible word was "Jana!" I jumped out of bed and ran over to where she was sleeping and started singing and dancing! I think it was a bit much for her at 5:30 in the morning as she commented, "Oh Rally, how you do have this much energy right now?" lol. We all proceeded to get ready and were welcomed upstairs to a lovely breakfast of egg casseroles, more scones, fruit, OJ, and the cappuccino, coffee, or espresso shot of our choice. After breakfast, I completed my overnight duties by vacuuming the basement and wiping down the bathroom. I found Chris, quite possibly asleep, on the floor as he was searching for his lost cords or ... read more

Made it here yesterday afternoon, just before granddaughter and daughter got home. Was granddaughter’s Instrumental music banquet dinner last night, so Andy and I went to Sakura’s Japanese’s restaurant for dinner. Never could figure out why they give so much food at those hibachi places. Appetizer choices included 2 shrimp or sautéed mushrooms. Andy and I both picked the mushrooms, me because my dinner was shrimp and scallops, him because he is allergic to shellfish. Before the appetizers though, Dinner included onion soup and a salad. I really like the soup, just a clear broth with bits of green onion and a mushroom. I am not crazy about sesame ginger dressing, it no real matter because things were just beginning. The fry guy started us off with what looked like over a cup of fried rice ... read more

THE BASICS We traveled across Texas to Little Rock to Cincinnati to Pittsburgh, where we visited my cousin Pattie Huntley Sweeney and her husband Gary and daughter Shawn. Then on to a very nice RV park in College Park, from which we will visit with Karen's family in northern Virginia tomorrow and Deborah's family in DC on Sunday. On Monday, we will have lunch with John's cousin and siblings in Harrisburg, PA, then head to NH. This segment of the trip is somewhat of a blur for me. We drove many miles in a day. The weather was rarely pleasant; instead, chilly, windy, and/or overcast. We had to remember how wonderful the early part of the trip had been, and just barge ahead. THE FLUFF Today was not unusual travel for us. The distance from Hagerstown ... read more

We could have gone to The Parade. We both had Thursday off and Keith asked me if I wanted to go into Philadelphia for the Eagles Parade. Sure, I wanted to go, but practically, I didn’t. I had way too much to do to get ready for our trip and I knew if we went I would be up half the night finishing up everything, plus Keith had a lot of things he had to catch up on, so we passed. I did watch some of it online when I could and had it on the radio. I had friends who went who thoroughly enjoyed it, so I am glad for them. I wonder if Jason Kelce's line of " We're from Philly, (expletive part censored since this is a rated G blog), No one likes ... read more

June: we began day two with a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. Breathtaking! A must for everyone's bucket list. After a Trail side lunch we set out for the day. Over a 1900 foot viaduct, over the Eastern Continental Divide, thru a 3,000+ foot, holy shit, railroad black as night railroad tunnel, lots more tunnels and beautiful early fall scenery. We landed in Cumberland, Maryland for the evening. Just for the record, our personal seat adjustment valets, Taylor and Chris had much lighter duty today. Our group of 14 enjoyed a laughter and whiskey soaked dinner at a local establishment. A lot of Buffalo wings and Maryland crabs were sacrificed. All our riders are in good shape after 80 miles. Hitting the trail early tomorrow, hoping it stays dry??... read more

David here... We got to Washington in terrible conditions. It was raining heavily and the interstate had low visibility. Still we got to the car rental drop-off in plenty of time. We jumped onto the courtesy bus back to Dulles airport and then onto the Washington Flyer to the Silver line metro. We were soon back in the centre of Washington. We had time for a quick lunch at Ray's Hell burgers again before making our way to the station to catch our train to Baltimore. We managed to get a seat in the quiet coach, enjoying that the rules are actually enforced, with people being told off for talking too loudly or using mobile phones. The journey was only 40 minutes. We then had a 30 minute walk to our hotel, the Days Inn at ... read more

Earlier this year I wanted to plan a trip to Chicago for Paul to see the Cubs play, but it was hard to find tickets and so expensive. My brother suggested we check Cubs games at Camden Yards in Baltimore, and turns out, there was a series this week! Also, my brother lives here in Baltimore which makes it all the nicer! That's when plans took off. I had to do a lot of sneaking and clearing browser history so he didn't see what I'd been doing online! I gave him the surprise on his 40th birthday - he knew I was up to something but nothing like this. Stay tuned for updates of our travels! Funny happening in the Minneapolis airport- I got through security fine and was waiting for Paul and I heard him ... read more

We woke up refreshed after a night in the motel where we all had our own double beds, with clean sheets and a shower that actually has hot water. A continental breakfast later and we were on the road again. The plan for the day was . . . . . Let's just stop there. There's no point saying what the plan for the days was because it changed so often. The Camouflage ManThe day started with a 3km climb out of town. Dave, Jeff and I were on the road and Tom was in the car. Off we went. At the top of the climb Dave and I waited for Jeff to get to the top. And he never turned up. We waited a few minutes and when we didn't see him come into sight ... read more

We managed to leave the Walmart carpark at about 6:45am. It wasn't the best place to stay but the Walmart was open 24 hours so at least we had a toilet to use in the morning. Today was scheduled to be fairly long at 126kms each. It will be our longest day before we finish with each of the following 3 days having less kilometres. Significant today was a number of steep climbs that was capped off with a 15km descent at the end of the day. We also crossed into Maryland today. The climbs were as advertised. One at 7kms and 6% and a second at 5kms and 8%. These we expected but it was the numerous other smaller climbs that really sapped the legs. We each climbed in the order of 2000 meters today ... read more
