Hi all, hope this finds everyone fit and well. So we left the beautiful Niagara Falls 10 days ago to explore the New England states (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island & Connecticut) , and while it's been chilly it really is a beautiful part of the world. By far, the scenery has been the highlight. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Vermont, though had to change our route, as we couldn't cross the river by ferry, as it was frozen. Not a consideration where we come from! North Conway in New Hampshire was picturesque with very friendly people and the coast in Cape Cod was lovely to see, more so waliking on the foreshore, it reminded us of Albany, WA. In Rhode Island we visited the very decadent mansion of the Van der Bilt family. It ... read more

September 29-30, 2013 We have stayed the last two nights with friends at their beautiful home (we sleep in the guest house) on an island near Yarmouth, Maine. It's been a heavenly two days: toured the Casco Bay in our friends' boat, walked around the island preserve, visited the shops in Portland, and just enjoyed being with our friends. What a gorgeous part of the world this is! We've been pampered here and it's going to be hard to leave tomorrow!... read more

Nova Scotia - and New England travel. Saturday 31st August . We started our journey from Terminal 5 at Heathrow, such a modern airport with plenty of space and apparently a lack of people. Our flight was by British Airways to Boston Massachusetts.... read more

Geo: 43.6591, -70.2566We left the campground near Bar Harbor this morning and drove in nasty rain for 3-1/2 hours to Portland, ME. We are staying at a campground about 10 minutes from the historic downtown.A taxi took us into the city in the afternoon, where we explored Portland. The weather cooperated and we had great time sitting out on a wharf and watching a band play at a bar. We shopped and had dinner at an Irish Pub; surprisingly good food.Today was also the 2nd Quarter eServices Board Meeting. This is the first one that I have missed since we formed the Company. I have to say that I really did not miss being there. LOL... read more

Good morning Portland. So the day was overcast but we still had a full schedule and most of it was driving, so it wasn't too much of a problem. It is a neat little town. We did not get to see much of it on the drive in the previous night. There are some cruise ships docked across the street from the hotel. Those are some big boats. Don't forget to get more of the visit to Portland at this blog. (Link to follow). Maine Beer Company, Portland, Maine http://www.mainebeercompany.com/ Unfortunately, we were unable to get an official tour here. We arrived at 10 A.M. but the tour was at 2 P.M. But a tour wasn’t really needed here. The gift shop had a window that looked right out on to the production floor, so we ... read more

Trying not to reflect too heavily as we get ready to make the last crossing of our cruise. Nostalgia is best saved for winter evenings when I'm finally going through the 10,000 photos. Portland has been a perfectly delightful place to linger and meet some of the most amazing folks, while waiting for fair west winds and pancake seas. Do I hear the old salts guffawing? Yeah, I know. Pancakes are for breakfast but not for describing the Gulf of Maine. What a wonderful experience to meet Debbie and John Howe. Their passion and expertise for global concerns and solar solutions at Howe Engineering has been very useful. On top of that, Debbie, as a competition Speed Walker, has treated me to my first offfical lesson and a new skill to add to the repertoire of ... read more

As you know we have trouble letting go and why should we when we don't really have to? One new friend, Linda Anne from Rockport actually reappeared on her bicycle in Portland yesterday as she starts her holiday. Who knows, maybe she'll surprise us again and meet us when we cross over to Pubnico, NS, her hometown. So you're seeing a few more pics of great friends like Larry from Rockport, another bit of Plymouth and now into Portland, Maine.... read more

Final day... boy what a quick trip this was... it seemed like just yesterday that we checked in... but I guess that's what weekend getaways are all about... activity filled and quick to end.... We had breakfast again in the lobby before checking out. Same stuff, still good. After breakfast, we hit the road. The game plan for today.... head into Old Port in downtown Portland, then head to airport for home. We parked the car along commercial street and walked around Old Port for a bit. Not much happening. Saw a cruise ship, went into a public market, saw few boutique shops, etc.... Portland is famous for their Whoopie pies, so we decided to try some. Bobby Flay had a Whoopie Pie throwdown with the Cranberry Island Kitchen... which just happens to be in Portland. ... read more

Day 2 began with an 8:00 breakfast meet up. Embassy Suites offered breakfast buffet everyday. So after everyone's allotted 30 minute morning time was completed, we headed downstairs to begin our day. The breakfast set up was very good. There was scambled eggs, home fries, sausage, bacon, french toast, fresh waffles and made to order omelets. All very good... all eaten = too full yet again. After breakfast, we headed out to Freeport. Freeport, ME was about 30 minutes away from Portland and was where the flagship LL Bean store was at; it's opened 24 hours and it had the big LL Bean boot in front. It was also the place where there were more outlets.... Yay for more outlets. We hit the LL Bean outlet, AF, North Face, Patagonia, and J. J. Coombes. Because we ... read more

Well, we are sure that Maine is a wonderful state (we have heard many, many great things), but unfortunately our time in the state was just way too short since we were only passing through on our way to Canada. First stop was Portland. We have some friends that live here so we met up with them for breakfast. They love the state, because they love the outdoors and this is a very outdoorsy state. We met them at Bintliff's (a local legend). We had the orange French Toast and Louisiana Bayou Benedict. Both meals were fabulous and what a brunch/breakfast should be. Definitely highly recommended. FREEPORT is just up the road and famous for the headquarters of L.L. BEAN (massive store selling outdoors gear). I believe the store even has its own zip code. We ... read more
