Had to get up early this morning after arriving around eight pm last night. I left at 5:30 am to make my way to two lights park to catch the sunrise and to get a lighthouse before returning back to the room and packing up in time to make it to Syracuse NY before it gets dark. Here are the photos that started in Maine.... read more

Well this is my last post from Maine. Great state and friendly people. Severely lacking in the Pizza/Sub department. When you have lived so close to Peter's nothing can really compare. So I really don't have much to say except 37 days and counting. This is also the first post that I have had subscribers so people will really be reading my stuff :) I probably wont add anything here until just before I leave...... read more

Well today was my last day of work. I really just wanted this week to be over as soon as possible. The anticipation for today had been building for a few weeks now as I gave my work 5 weeks notice to help in the transition time. Unfortunately as of writing this, they still do not have anyone to replace me. That worries me some because my team has been through a lot this past couple years. But they are a good group and will get through it. They also took me out to a great dinner. It was great to see everyone there. Thank you everyone! I appreciate all the gifts and everything you have done to support me this past year. So not I am, down to 40 something days before I head ... read more

Welcome to my blog! I have really struggled with what to write for my first post. The biggest thing on my mind lately is the fact that in a little more then a week I will no longer be working at my job. For a little more then seven years I have pretty much given everything I have to work. That is my mentality. For me it is all or nothing, there can be no middle ground. Now I am walking away from that. That is tough. There is some guilt. I am a bit unsure. I am questioning my decision, as I think anyone in my position should do. I am walking away from a lot. But, I also know I have made the right one. I have chose to walk down a new path. ... read more

There are three wants which never can be satisfied: that of the rich, who wants something more; that of the sick, who wants something different; and that of the traveler, who says, "Anywhere but here." Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. A good traveler has no well-defined plan and is not intent on arriving. He who travels much comes to know more than he who lives long. You need a change of soul rather than a change of climate. I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train. If an ass goes traveling he will not come home a horse. He who would travel happily must travel light. YEAH-WHATEVA! I remember being ... read more

Well I thought I would get thig back up and running with all of the traveling I am going to be doing for work. I still have to figure out a way to get some photos up on here, well since I don't have a camera that might be a little problem. Anyway, I was at a wedding yesterday. Susan's sister (Anne, who I went to college with) got married to a very nice guy and Susan invited me to the wedding. It was fun, I have to admit I was a little stressed out with seeing people from high school, but I think I did pretty good. No worries! At the moment I am on my way up to the northern section of Maine for a college fair, my bosses were right in suggesting I ... read more

If you haven't seen that episode of the simpsons that title will probably make nooooooooo sense. Anyhoo, onto my thanksgiving break! At UVM we get a week off over thanksgiving, which is cool. For most of the break I went to a place just outside of Portland (the capital of Maine) callled Yarmouth. I travelled to Maine by Greyhound bus, because there is a terminal in Burlington which makes it really easy. Though driving straight to Yarmouth from Burlington should take about 4 hours, my bus ride took 8. This, I discovered, was because the bus went down to Boston before travelling up to Maine. But I didn't mind the time because there was cool stuff to look at outside the window. And I had a two seats to myself, so double the coolness. When the ... read more

After an uneventful crossing of the border from Canada to the US we made our way to Bar Harbor, Maine. Bar Harbor is a quaint town with plenty of little shops and restaurants. We didn't stay as long as we should have so there isn't that much to describe. However, the next day we went to Acadia national park and spent some time there. We woke up to a typical fall Maine day, drizzling rain and plentiful fog. As we clibed the road in the park, the visibility became so bad that we weren't able to enjoy fully what the park has to offer. In particular the fall foliage that already was wonderful in foggy conditions, would have been breathtaking on a sunny day. We saw several waterfalls and sweeping views of the ocean. Today is August 15th and I officially have two weeks until I leave for Beijing, China. I'm still working for one more week, and today a group of my favorite co workers surprised me with a going away potluck lunch. They got me good too, I really had no idea. They also gave me a great picture of all 13 of us at our summer outing. I'm definitely going to bring it to China with me. In the next couple of weeks I am going to tie up all my loose ends and pack up all my things. This is the hard part, the saying goodbye. I hate saying goodbye. I am looking forward to the year to come, meeting my students, working with the teachers, finding a great tutor, exploring Beijing, learning more Chinese...all of ... read more
