Fayetteville has made itself out to be "that" town which will draw me back to Arkansas. The beautiful people which I have run into speak southern hospitality. In the beginning stage of Fayetteville I couchsurfed with Drew Swayne. Everyone would be better off for having this guy in their life. Under his wing I was taken to Eureka Springs. Speechless on what an amazing place this was...and it still wonders my mind how I encountered the band I met earlier in Little Rock. So there we are browsing the shops, taking in the art, candy shops, and trinket spaces when, from the street..."PATRICK!" Kyle from Poor Boy Tango dashes out of the moving car and runs up with a greeting hug. Kyle, Trish and Patrick have drove up to play a show; Matt, Rob and Chris ... read more

I suspected that my post about my final day in Brussels would be my last entry. I know it's been a month now since I left Brussels, and I apologize for just now getting around to writing about it, but it's been quite the month and it looks like my adventures are far from over. Well, to quickly summarize my last day in Brussels, Michael and I flew back from Venice early enough to do a bit of Brussels sightseeing before packing everything up and heading back to the U.S. the next day. Believe it or not, I had not yet been to see the Atomium since I got to Brussels nearly three months earlier. The Atomium is this massive atom-looking structure that was built for the 1958 World's Fair. As Michael and I headed towards ... read more

Some discontent has been shared about how I never "officially" returned from Nairobi. I apologize for not updating my blog, but let's be honest...nothing too exciting happens to me in med school. That said, I finish my 2nd year (out of 4) this week and then progress to take the STEP 1 Board Exam and take a year break from med school to earn a Masters in Public Health (MPH). Yes, I'm going to add another year of school, but it will be worth it and my reasons are best saved for another place & time. So, you might be wondering why I've chosen to update my blog today of all days. Well, first, my exam doesn't start until 12:30 and I'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. Next, I went for a run this morning. ... read more

I just decided the week before that I was going to take the opportunity that Easter brought and use 4 days to get to Vicksburg Military Park then ride the Natchez Trace. It was funny that the trip originally started as just heading to Eureka Springs, AR for a couple days, but the weather wasn’t forecasted to be that great there. And I wanted some warm weather. Farther south it was looking better, when I saw Vicksburg on the map I knew that is where I needed to head. Then Vicksburg is just a short distance from the southern end of the Natchez Trace… The plan was to get to Vicksburg on Thursday. Friday morning I would spend a couple hours at the Vicksburg National Military Park. Then head south to the Natchez MS and start ... read more

So - I woke up to 4 Cop Cars pretty much parked adjacent to me at McDee's- they didn't seem to mind my Motel though, and when I went in to brush my teeth in the morning, I saw them all happily eating together. Onwards I figured, time to hit the road again, and soon I was putting the miles behind me once more, 70 per hour! Kansas was blowing by swiftly under blue skies, and my cars thermometer was rising swiftly too. Before I knew it, it was in the 60s! Hold on a second I said, it's 60 degrees and sunny and I'm just blowing by everything on the red and blue again....I see a sign for a Scenic Byway-...heading North...oh well, lets hit it I decide, direction isn't as important as interesting at ... read more

Working a high stress sales job has driven me to find outlets to burn off anxiety and learn how to relax again. I get maybe two hours sleep on the train shifting positions every five minutes. As we pull in to Dodge City station we get chatting with a woman who is also alighting. She seems concerned when we tell her no one is meeting us and offers us a lift with her husband in there massive truck. It is a good job we met here as the station is deserted and it was a long way out to the other side of town and the Thunderbird Motel where we had reservations. We were greeted by a tired and bedraggled Thai woman in a grubby, blue, paint stained hoody. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and asked if we wanted to go straight to bed and check in later. This sounded like a good option. The motel ... read more

Tomorrow I will set out on my long journey for Brussels, Belgium. After a three and a half hour drive to Denver, a three hour flight to Philadelphia, a two hour lay-over, and a seven and a half hour flight across the Atlantic, I will arrive in Brussels for the internship of my dreams. For the next three months, I have been given the incredible opportunity to intern for the U.S. State Department at the U.S. Mission to the EU! This will actually be my second trip to Brussels. When I visited Brussels for the first time in the summer of 2007 on a study abroad trip, I had no idea I would be going back so soon! I had always planned on doing an internship the last semester of my undergrad, but never expected to ... read more
