Since I have had to postpone the culinary and cultural delights awaiting me in SE Asia, I have been scurrying around to devise a contingency plan. Pleased to announce that I bought the ticket, and it lands me back in previously trod Central America. However, this time I will get to add Panama's splendors to the itinerary and will not be as much of a whirlwind traveler (last time was 5 countries in 4 weeks). Three weeks from tomorrow I fly out to Costa Rica, where I will hopefully meet some cool travelers to usher in the New Year with (or find a place to salsa with the Ticos!) From there I plan on visiting Panama's Bocas del Toro and the Chiriqui highlands before heading back to western Costa Rica to (hopefully!) learn how to surf ... read more

Tip: if you want to feel 10 pounds lighter instantly, quit your job. The feeling of napping in the middle of the day, of NOT checking voicemail and calling all my stores 4 times a day, of not dreading hearing my phone ring for fear of my hovering boss ... these are all PRICELESS. I feel like I just got my life back, and oh, how beautiful life seems when I own it instead of a corporation! Despite the fact that all my travel plans have just run amok, that I am now unemployed and without a car, and the fact that winter has arrived and the snow is falling, I am able to finally breathe again and actually appreciate the beauty of the snowflakes falling so peacefully and decorating all the barren trees with icing. ... read more

You can say that there are three things one can do during their college life. One, go Greek. Two, do a study abroad. Three, go on a spring break. I feel fortunate that I've done all three, and I enjoyed every minutes of it. There is something about college life; not just going to class and studying, but also enjoying it through being active in campus activities and many clubs, meeting new people that are in your shoes. Finally I graduated with a landscape architecture degree. As I have to depart from my beloved home in Ames, Iowa for the real world in Atlanta, Georgia, I brace myself to look back at my years at Iowa State. ... read more

Iowa could be harsh in the winter. This is what I like to do: waking up in the morning around 4am, going to the Campus Services HQ, and helping out the full timer to clean out the snow off sidewalks and stairs. What can I say? I am a winter guy. ... read more

We left Indianapolis and had to decide where to go to next. We had a few days to fill before we drove back to Chicago to meet up with relatives again. We had ideas that we would like to see Oklahoma and Texas but felt we didnt have enough time to do both of them so instead we headed north to Dubuque in Iowa. Dubuque is located along the Mississippi River, not quite as wide as it is in St Louis nor was it quite so muddy. The city lies at the junction of three states of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. It is one of the few cities with hills in Iowa. We noticed a difference in countryside. Gone were the flat cereal growing farmlands and were replaced by mile upon mile of green meadows, Dutch ... read more
