Hello all, I am not sure if all of you are aware, but I will be going back to India in a week from this evening. I'm going to be spending a little under a week up in Darjeeling which is in the Himalayan foothills. It is rumored to be stunningly beautiful. I will be taking my new camera set as photography is growing to be my main interest. I am thinking seriously about doing international photojournalism when I get my degree from engineering. So I hope to get enough publishable images from this trip to convince myself and other people that I have the skills required. My short-term dream is to get my photos printed and sell the prints and use the profits to support the orphanage that my brother Nate is helping out at ... read more

After a rough week, I spent the weekend in Indianapolis with my Dad. He was visiting for a conference, so I got to stay at the Hilton. Much nicer than the foul slums I've been staying in to save money. Now I'm in eastern Tennessee, straddling the Smokey Mountains between Knoxville and Chattanooga. Both of those cities are less interesting than Nashville. Not suprisingly, they provided a challenging work environment as well. Even so, this job is so much less stressful than it was in the early days. I don't know if its me or the places (likely both). When I think back to my first days in Louisville, its difficult to believe that was part of this same trip. I feel like an honorary resident of this entire region. The people here in the South ... read more

Nothing helps put life in perspective like a fly by night trip to a wedding in Indianapolis. That Friday, I finished up my mathematical obligations, jumped in the old Toyota Pick Up and drove eastward to the large industrial city of Billings, Montana (former Meth Capital of the US) to catch my flight early Saturday morning so I could be in Indianapolis, Indiana for the wedding Saturday night. I stayed Friday evening with my friend Gretchen Kruesi, a stalwart worker for the Democratic Party during this much contested campaign for the Senate seat here in Montana! So early on Saturday the 30th, I drove up to the top of the rim of rock that overlooks Billings and is the nest of the flying metal birds that would ingest me that morning and regurgitate me at the ... read more

Considering the scale of this project, the problems I've been having are minor. Nonetheless, I've had a bad cold all week that's been making it hard to work more than a few hours a day, plus I'm still adjusting to the time out here (eastern). I do very vell doing those hours, so I'm not worried about this job. Overall, I couldn't ask for something better to be doing. I've also been having trouble with internet access at my hotel room (hence the late entry), and issues with my equipment. Overall, though, everything is looking good. A couple days ago I took an evening drive into Indiana to visit a friend. Everything is so green from Illinois east. The landscape looks like a tropical rainforest compared to Southern California. Its hard to believe that all those ... read more

A couple of weeks ago we picked up our soon-to-be European RV - an Itasca Navion. We had fun stocking it with cutlery, crockery, linens and other everyday necessities and will shortly do a couple of overnight stays to see what we missed. Overall, this seems to be a fun vehicle and fairly self-sufficient. It is built on the Dodge Sprinter chassis which is based on a Mercedes diesel engine with a five speed automatic gearbox. Drives pretty much like a car.... read more

Well, we have served our sentence in “Camp Monaco”, and it feels like a life- time. Having never spent more than 2 week in any one (beautiful) place, we are now on week 4 in a car park in Elkhart Indiana. Not that Indiana is an awful place, it isn’t. It a lush green agricultural state, famous for being home to one of the largest Amish and Mennonite communities, home of the RV industry, the manufacture of vitamin pills and musical instruments. What more could you want? Now, we didn’t expect too much as Indiana does have one of the thinnest guide books on the shelf. However, there is a limited amount of time you can spend experiencing the Amish stuff, looking at endless fields of sweetcorn and soya bean, or touring RV factories and outlets. ... read more

Okay, a little late with this post but whatcha gonna do? Headed down to Indianapolis at the beginning of August to catch the Drive-By Truckers/Black Crowes show, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Nascar race and, oh yeah, visit my sister and brother-in-law! Haha, I suppose not necessarily in that order... Weekend got off on the wrong foot with both my first and connecting flight departing late (the airline shall remain nameless, however it does rhyme with Bontinental...). This translated in me arriving late to the show, only to sit down and see one dang song of the 'Truckers, not impressed to say the least...good thing we had primo seating and the beer vendors were close at hand... Spent the next day with friends of my sister...they certainly run in some pretty fancy shmancy circles...included everything ... read more

"Let the world change you...and you can change the world." This is a quote from the movie "Los diarios motocicletas" (Motorcycle Diaries) that which I have chosen to, in a way, be the theme of my experience abroad. Mainly because this quote involuntarily pops up in my head whenever I am thinking of my travel abroad. This quote is so true. Everyone I know that has gone abroad assures me again and again that this will be a life-changing experience. I suppose that is what makes it so alluring, at least to me. I am constantly trying to decipher my life. I have set goals for myself in an attempt to decipher my life. I feel like going to Lima will be another place where I can find myself. This is something I try to encourage ... read more
