If you're reading this, you already know I'm studying for a semester in Hong Kong. For those who are interested, this will be the best way to keep up with me while I'm gone. I'll give everyone a little intro to me and why I chose Hong Kong. I'm a senior at Indiana University studying Marketing and International Business. Part of that requirement is that I study abroad somewhere. I have always wanted to go to Africa, and I tried to choose that as my destination. It turns out, Kelley (School of Business) doesn't have a program there and so I decided on Hong Kong. I thought it would be a good place to push me out of my comfort zone and to have some great experiences. I leave Januray 6th and I get back May ... read more

Happy Holidays Everybody!!! I returned to the US a little over a week ago. The flight was long and uneventful. I couldn't believe how cold it was when I landed. There was snow on the ground and I was wearing flip flops. Of course, my thoughtful husband met at the luggage area with shoes and a winter coat. Like promised, I also got my cheeseburger and fries that night. Sean is 100% healthy and I almost didn't recognize him at the airport. We have both been working out so as not to succumb the weight the Midwest and holiday season are trying to put on us. We had been staying with Sean's parents for the past week and loving all of the time together. Erika and Andre and their baby Charlotte were there too! Charlotte is ... read more

The date has been set! On January 22, 2008 we will board the airplane once again to make our way to Tanzania, East Africa. We will travel from Dallas, to Chicago, to London and from London to Tanzania. For those interested the total travel time from Dallas to Chimala not counting the layovers is around 28 long hours. As of right now we are still in Southern Indiana tying up loose ends. On the 31st we will travel to Texas to visit with family, friends, supporters and our overseeing congregation. Please pray for us to have a safe journey and for our work to be successful. We want to thank God and all of our supporters for making this possible. Happy Holidays! ... read more

Posted by: Onaxthiel: The night was a bit long for me, with neck pain waking me up for about three hours in the middle of the night. The night was much warmer than our last outdoor stay in the Great Smokies. The temperature barely dropped below freezing, and given that we were car camping this time rather than backpacking, both of us were bundled up quite warmly. In the distance a set of dogs had an ongoing howling contest for most of the night, finally ended by what I think was a bobcat or panther screeching them into silence. Or eating them. I'm not sure which. Eventually, I took some muscle relaxants and went to sleep until a bit after dawn. The morning arrived with a heavy fog in the valley in front of us, and ... read more

Finally I get to see Tom's birthplace. Now I know why he was so quiet about it. Definitely middleclass. Beautiful neighborhood, unchanged in 40 years, overlooks the Ohio River. Spent evenings watching High School Football. Tom was nostalgic over his H.S. quarterback days. Says he didn't have the cheerleaders chasing after him. Yeh, right. Onto Elvis' birthplace in Tupelo, MS. Found someone who grew up poorer than me. Capped the summer off by visiting the Shiloh, Tn and Vicksburg, MS battlefields. The more Civil War history we learn, the curiousor we get. Off to Texas from here! Have reacquainted ourselves with people we've met along the road...Nurse, survivor of Vietnamese prison camps for religious persecution, copyeditor working on the road. Life is still good. ... read more

It came to my attention that I never blogged once I returned from my six months abroad. And the return home is a very important part of the process. It was great to return home. I don't think I have ever wanted a big fat juicy hamburger and greasy french fries so bad in my life. And thank goodness for coffee to go and kitchens that contain more than a hot plate. I am also so much more thankful of American grocery stores. I can read the labels and I don't have to pay extra money for a bag to carry my groceries in, and I have options. Imagine that, I can choose between several different brands of cheese, let alone many different types. Things I miss about Prague (or Europe in general)? Public Transportation for ... read more

Hey everyone, Well the count down as officially begun. I am 13 days away from leaving. I'm excited, but yet sad. I'm having just a great time with my class here at Western Primary, and I hate to leave them. We have spent this past week learning a lot about Australia and where it is that Ms. Pearcy will be going. We have sent a class letter to the students at Cowes Primary and are eagerly waiting for a response. We created a bulletin board called Where in the world is Ms. Pearcy? I can’t wait to come back in December and see how much they have grown. My host teacher has been awesome and I've learn a lot about the real life teaching. She has been a great encouragement and very supportive of my ... read more
