We got up early Monday morning so that hopefully we will travel far before the heat and the impending thunderstorms. Shortly after getting up and leaving Henderson, Indiana we came upon a Detour before the town of Marion, Illinois on Hwy 3 taking us into a big circle to get back onto Hwy 3 heading NW. It was a beautiful country road that gave up a wonderful surprise taking us by a Covered Bridge that was being restored. We came upon the home town of Sgt Alvan York. His Griss Mill was still in tact with a room full of personal pictures and newspaper articles of the like of Sgt York. There was also a big old building (like a general store) full of gifts and momentos of Sgt. York. Alvin Cullum York (December 13, 1887 ... read more

We left a little before 9AM to begin our trip. The weather was warm and muggy and there was a thick haze all over. Carrie started off driving and she was able to back out of the driveway, with a little help, and we were on our way. Jason spent the first 30 minutes or so locating all the squeaks, rattles, and knocks before settling down to hook-up the computer mapping software and the GPS. Didn’t take long to get it going, however, the software kept trying to route us onto back roads for the last 100 miles of travel for the day. Samantha sat in the co-pilot’s seat for the whole trip and watched movies, listened to music, and talked. Carrie and I switched places after a couple of hours and filled the behemoth up ... read more

Cool morning, beautiful sunrise. What a great way to wake up and face the new day. Showers, breakfast, a morning walk and we are off on the second day of our great adventure. Leaving Lake Erie State Park behind us, we passed through “wine country” Dave thought, as we drove along the Erie shores and noticed lots of grape vines growing on trellises. Once on Route 90 we headed west for a lunch date with two wonderful people, Ken and Janice. Ken and Janice are full-time RV’ers who happen to be staying in Oregon, Ohio doing some bird watching. When they heard we were coming through Ohio they waited an extra three days, so we could meet up with them for lunch. We met them at Bob Evans and had a great lunch and great conversation. ... read more

Running and traveling are my passions. Naturally, one of my dreams is to run races in different places. Running with a camera in my Race-Ready shorts is no longer a daunting task. After all, you can't never anticipate what you will see on a race course. Indianapolis is well know for its Speedway. In the running community, it is also well known for the annual sell-out event, the One America 500 Festival Mini Marathon. It is the largest half marathon in the U.S. I came for the opportunity to run a lap on the famous speedway just 3 weeks before drivers of the Indianapolis 500 start their engines. This is one of the best race so far! The weather condition was perfect for running. Live music, cheer groups, dance troupes from the start line all the ... read more

Straight to the track this morning ! The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Track, where they run the Indianapolis 500 each May, the biggest event on the American Racing calander. The Formula One was also run there. We took a drive around the track in a bus, the tour guide gave us a good run for our $3.00 entry ticket. The museum has many of the winning cars from the previous 500 races. All in pristine condition, Geoff's favourite were the cars from the 1930's. The whole complex is fully enclosed and is the size of a suburb at home. We drove into downtown Indianapolis and went to the baseball field where the Indians play. We were lucky enough to have a personal tour of the field, given by the head groundsman . Our Tomi girl... gps, then ... read more

We took the scenic route along the Ohio river into downtown Louisville. Crossed the river into Indiana to see the Old Ohio Falls and the exposed fossil beds.. 350m years old. Back again into Kentucky to see the paddlesteamers in the port of Louisville, where we had a great lunch of shrimp and crab at "Joes Crab Shack" the best we've had, ever... I think ! We had a great surprise waiting for us at Church Hill Downs, the racetrack where the Kentucky Derby is run (in 2 days time).... there was a race meeting on, so we joined the crowd, paid our $1.00 to get in and stood on the fence and watched the 5th race. Took in all the atmosphere and had an iced tea ! Completed the day driving north to Indianapolis.... read more

As of tomorrow I leave in two weeks. I am exited about my trip. I have bought just about everything that I need. I even found my Euros I have from when I went to England ten years ago! I can't believe it has been that long since I have needed a passport to go anywhere! I have planned out what Stephanie and I will be doing while in Athens. I probably have planned too much but once we get there we will just take it a day at a time. We are planning on seeing many museums in Athens as well as the Parthenon at the Acropolis, we are planning on going to Attica, and going to the coast to see the Temple of Athena. A few weeks ago, I was able to meet everyone ... read more

Church this morning. Mostly a proper church. Worship was good, though I only knew one of the songs. The message was different than I’m used to, so I didn’t follow it so well, but other liked it. It was fun to see the kids again after a few days. They did a few songs. After church, we loaded up the bus and headed to Sandi Patty’s house. Yep. She had us over to play and have dinner. Very fun. We were supposed to swim but it was too rainy. The kids LOVED playing Wii though. They were crazy! Sandi and her family were amazing hosts. (She met the kids when they were in Indy for 3 weeks or so doing shows with her.) I got some work done; had to retape a new video snake. That ... read more
