Day 1 of a two day stretch of our first days of spring after a long cold, wet winter. It is to get in the upper 60s today and it is predicted that maybe 70 tomorrow, WAHOO! What would of been a fantastic day to ride our Gold Wing has us riding in our new 2010 Ford Pickup, recovering from gallbladder surgery at the first of this month has us in 4 wheels for the adventure. We headed West toward the Pacific Ocean (Long Beach to be Exact) on Hwy 12. We ate breakfast at a small diner in Aberdeen out by the mall I think it is called the Blue Heron, lots of good food for the money. We traveled along the Long Beach Peninsula, heading North checking out rental houses and enjoying the beautiful ... read more

Going-to-the-Sun Scenic Road The most famous highlight of Glacier National Park is the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The scenic drive is considered one of the most spectacular in America. I suggest that this is a don't-look-down kind of drive. Just pull off when you do, and you'll be fine, well maybe I still have trouble looking down. There are plenty of reasons to stop and park such as wildflower meadows, alpine vistas, and abundant wildlife. Going-to-the-Sun Road splits the northern and southern halves of Glacier National Park in two and crosses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass (6,646 feet). It climbs over the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. The most stunning section is the sheer western face of the divide below the pass. Many beautiful waterfalls can be seen in this area as well as wonderful alpine views. ... read more

Almost time to head to Powell, WY. A quick trip to CA first for Brother Ted's 61st Birthday in Middletown, CA. A quick stop in Longview first to deliver son-in-laws birthday present and to drop off young son and his wife a Wedding Gift. Was to meet LaDonna but she had already taken off to Timber Trails so onto to CA. First stop is a motel in Woodburn, Oregon. Friday morning a wet night the road is wet but the highway seems to be dry. Looks pretty cloudy so decided to head to the coast where the blue skys are. BE SURE TO CLIP ON THE BIKE PICTURES SO YOU CAN SEE THE PRETTY WATER OVER THE ROCKS.... Check the map and found a nice short cut thru the mountains. Beautiful sunny day after the Marine ... read more

Logging road to coast

WE are home for a couple of weeks. Over 10,000 miles since June 11th. We left last Friday afternoon for a weekend run from Olympia to Arcata, CA for do a little collecting of our Rose City Stamps. Did California move .... we weren't there for the recent earth quake but were in the middle of a forest fire. We traveled to Waldport as our first check point did a little side road off I-5 from Albany, oh but wait we did a little jaunt around Albany as they were burning fields and we didn't want to get in the smoke. Found that to be an impossible idea as everywhere we went the fields were burning. We headed to Waldport on the coast on a little road thru the mountains (34) very pretty but lots of ... read more

Another early morning get up it has been getting so hot during the afternoon and with impending thunderstorms we get up and on the road early. This morning Wednesday, July 9th was colder than usual leaving Broken Bow, NE I didn't put the liner in my jacket but it didn't take long before we needed to stop and add more layers. It had rained during the night so there were mud puddles but the road was clear. The sky had a few clouds but we stayed dry. We found a little cafe about and hour and a half down the road right next to a rail road track. This little town receives all their mail by rail road. The little care had a red haired gentleman that was the cook, waiter and probably the dishwasher. A ... read more

We got up early Monday morning so that hopefully we will travel far before the heat and the impending thunderstorms. Shortly after getting up and leaving Henderson, Indiana we came upon a Detour before the town of Marion, Illinois on Hwy 3 taking us into a big circle to get back onto Hwy 3 heading NW. It was a beautiful country road that gave up a wonderful surprise taking us by a Covered Bridge that was being restored. We came upon the home town of Sgt Alvan York. His Griss Mill was still in tact with a room full of personal pictures and newspaper articles of the like of Sgt York. There was also a big old building (like a general store) full of gifts and momentos of Sgt. York. Alvin Cullum York (December 13, 1887 ... read more
