Hotel Bowskill Mr and Mrs Bowskill put me up for ten days in their cat´s home. Sorry, I mean, in their lovely home. (They´ve got three cats with whom they are totally in love.) Their house is very nice and spacious and they´re doing lots to it. Plenty of room for visitors! Did I also mention that Dora is a wonderful cook (doesn´t tend to burn stuff any more)? In fact, as apparently is their wont, Dora and Phillip fed me loads of lovely gorgeous food until my pyjamas split. Indianapolis is not like anywhere I´ve ever been before, but apparently it´s quite common for the Mid-West (should that be hyphenated? Caps or no caps?) The downtown area which looks like a normal city seemed to be to be pretty small and it is surrounded firstly, ... read more

This is just a little blog to a) practise using this site, b) electronically start my trip in 2009 which seems to be advantageous somehow, and c) get my friends and family to subscribe to my blog now while they can still remember who I am. After a lovely send-off from Goga, Anna and Masha at passport control, I proceeded through Security. It went pretty quickly considering there was supposed to be extra security after the attempted bombing on a Christmas day transatlantic flight - or so I thought. I arrived at the gate in plenty of time...to queue for another hour. They performed pat-downs and bag searches on every single passenger. Behind me in the queue was the kind of American I had doubted existed, despite second-hand evidence to the contrary. He was large and ... read more

What a Long Strange Trip it has been, and that's just "getting ready" for this road trip. Honestly it has been a blast tearing down and building back up my KZ-Gal getting her ready for the salt. Utilizing all the mechanical talents my Dad taught me over the years and turning a 33 year old piece of history into what should be a very safe and hopefully fast (for her) journey down the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats. So getting from torn down to built back up and now actually tucked inside her lil travel box :), special thanks to my Brothers in Arms (My Bro and My Neighbor) Mel & I are ready to tackle the open highway. Now we just gotta find out what state that World's Biggest Ball of Twine is located. We are ... read more

It was my last year of High School and looking to get myself that dream bike. I had been lusting after the new KZ 900 Kawasaki for about a year and now I was finally ready to buy. Well actually I "finally" got the unwilling nod from my parents to go out and "Kill Myself", so off I went. I ended up on a Honda 550 that year due to limited funds (dreams cost a lot) and admittedly I also had a mild case of intimidation of that KZ beast. Oh don't get me wrong, I was loving life on two wheels, and my last year of school was a blast. But I do remember always hearing that KZ900 sound in the distance wishing it was me. 31 years later, a little wiser and a lot ... read more

We arrived after a fairly normal flight, looking forward to meeting a big chunk of the Hart family and a brave Auntie Sandra and Cousin Kate were there to collect us despite the early hour! It was great to finally see them and Auntie Sandra still has a Brummie 'twang' mixed in with her American which was cool. after a quick bite to eat i headed for a nap while Matt and Kate had a gossip. Kate and Ryan's house is beautiful and the spare room was most welcome! Later on we met Ryan after he had been to work and Ashlyn too. Later that night we all headed over to Sandra and Mike's for dinner and to meet Mike, Zac and Joey and generally catch up and relax. Day 2 was Pottergate.. we went ... read more

Our membership campgrounds through "Thousand Trails" give us a feeling of "home." They are located throughout the U.S. We stopped at "Indian Lakes Thousand Trails" in Indiana on our way to a Winnebago Rally in July. It was just 50 miles from daughter Kathy so this was a bonus for us. We got reconnected with her and grandkids Taylor and Megan. We met up again with friends Kathy and Bruce. Played some pickleball and then Kathy cooked us a great dinner before they pulled out. Tom is getting major dental work done. He's had 3 appointments and looks forward to a few more. Fortunately we found a dental group with offices in Iowa and Arizona too. Thus, he can have some continuity to all the fix-ups. We know many people that go to Mexico for dental ... read more

Hello All! We are officially underway. We are at our midpoint to Madison, WI in Indianapolis. Since the camera is not quite charged yet (I knew we had forgotten something on our To Do List), there is no spiffy picture of a fully loaded large 16' Penske truck with the Fit on a car carrier behind it. We packed both apartments yesterday and spent the night in Spartanburg, SC. By the time we had finished packing it was exactly rush hour in Chas, so we decided to take the safe route and wait til about 7 to leave. So to pass the time we saw Up 3-D! The drive has been pretty interesting so far. We had lunch in London, drove through Frankfort, past Versailles, and narrowly avoided temptation to stop at the Woodford Reserve and ... read more

A month in Europe! Thanks for reading along with my travels. I will try to publish as much as I can, as often as I can. Leaving Indy on April 14 for Rome, departing Indy at 7am Tuesday and (via Boston) getting into Rome at 7am Wednesday. Isn't that special? I don't really have a set schedule while I'm there, so this will be exciting, just me and a backpack. I'm thinking Italy, Austria, Germany, France. Any others will be extra special!... read more
