Chicago Well after an enjoybale 12 hour Greyhound trip from Mack Island to Chicago, I was well in the knowledge of how "Scott" from Michigan's U.P. has lived his entire life, from start to finish, including when, where (and how) he met his now wife, when (not quite where and how) they got their 2 kids, how his job as a truck driver sucks and he was en route to a new job. Also how the relationship has been on the rocks for the past 6 months...need i go on? WHY DO PEOPLE ON THE GREYHOUND INSIST ON TELLING YOU THEIR LIFE STORY WHEN YOU JUST WANT TO GO TO SLEEP!!!!! Day 1 Anyway...Chicago was amazing! Again. Arrived early Mon morn and couldnt check into the hostel so wandered around for a while...went to see Buckingham ... read more

We were out having dinner at a Mexican restaurant and Julia (a local) told me she was going to Chicago on the weekend. So I hit her up to take us (Sara-Denmark, Aika-Kasakstan & Nastia-Russia) as well, and it was set we were going to Chicago! We left camp Friday after the we got rid of all the kids and after a 5 hour drive we got there (and we gained a hr in time difference) and went to the hostel. That night we made a few friends (Denmark chicks & a few U.S lads) and had a few sly drinks out the front porch. Because there was no drinking at the hostel, yer crazy I now!! After an hr or 2 sleep we got up to hit downtown & a whole lot of shopping. 3 ... read more

Well, the first lesson is to take the power cord for your laptop. And the plan worked. Got the recall taken care of. When the coach was back at our daughter's house, we smelled gas, as in gasoline. Foud it dripping off the frame rail in the rear. The fill pipe for the gas tank runs right above where the leak seems to be coming from. Call the RV place and they say, "Bring it over." So, I take the five minute drive over there. As soon as I get on the Interstate, I see a huge plume of black smoke ahead. I'm thinking, "That's me with my gas leak in 5 minutes." About a mile before my exit, just as I come out from under a bridge, is a two and a half story house, ... read more

We had so much fun today. We rolled into Chicago early in the morning. I had never been here before so I was really excited to explore the city. We first went for breakfast where I had the best chocolate chip pancakes ever. Then we took the subway downtown. I was super excited to go shopping after not being in civilization for a few days. Ian and I hit a bunch of the shops. I went slightly crazy at H&M, but that place is so cheap who wouldn't. Then we headed down to see a bunch of the famous buildings. We went to the Chicago Tribune building which is studded with over 120 stones from famed sites and structures in all 50 states and dozens of foreign countries. They range from the Parthenon (Greece) and Taj ... read more

Getting the coach packed. Tire pressure is at 80 lbs for all six tires, oil level right where it should be and engine coolant is OK. Topped off windshield washer reservoir. The plan is to leave home base late afternoon on 5 July, drive about 3 hours to Terre Haute to spend the night. We have an appointment for a recall on the mounting brackets for 0900 on the 6th in Richmond, IN. After the recall work is done, we plan to camp for three days w/ a grand-daughter and her aunt (our oldest). Then the grand-daughter will come & visit with us for a few weeks. So, that's the plan. Nothing fancy. We'll let you know how it turns out.... read more

Thursday, June 16, 2005 Keokuk, IA It was a long day, or at least it felt like it after two days of mostly being in the bus. We got off today at 8am and went directly to Old Nauvoo. We stopped briefly at the Temple Quarry for a quick pic, then to the head of the Trail of Hope. Gordon had us pair up and started us off every few minutes to give us time to pause and read and reflect at each one without (ideally) others bunching around or rushing each other. Well, since Mona and I had skipped part of the riverside sunset show the night before to do the same thing on the Trail, we snuck off and toured a little bit of the nearby restored buildings. We mostly took pictures, since most ... read more

Wednesday, June 15, 2005 Keokuk, IA One more long drive! We got up in Michigan City early and got straight on the bus and began to drive. I actually got up a little earlier, as I didn’t set my clock back an hour for the time zone change. All was well, though, since I overslept my alarm somewhat anyway, plus it got me out of the bathroom before Mona got up and gave me time to prepare a devotional, which I presented on the bus this morning. I told a little about Philip Paul Bliss, and read verses from Section 101 (14-16, and 35-38 I think), then made a couple applications and we sang “More Holiness Give Me”. The coach ran great today, and we made it into Nauvoo in plenty of time. I slept like ... read more

My first day in Chicago...(i've been here before but it has been a while.) My Flight left Alaska at 9:50pm last night 6/5, that flight is always too long it feels like it just wont end! I couldn't sleep at all. I had a flight change in Minneapolis and was on my way to Chicago, just an hour flight from Minneapolis. I slept almost the whole hour. I arrived here at 8:30am Monday am. Grabbed the Airport Express Shuttle and was at the hotel an hour and a half later! I was the last one on the shuttle to get dropped off, at least I wasn't driving in the rush hour here. The Tremont hotel...old hotel, fine but not recommended to others for the price. I met my group at 1:30pm at the Field Museum we ... read more
