For about the past six months, we’ve been living and working in Aurora, the second largest city in Illinois, just 35 miles west of Chicago. When most people think of Chicago, they think of the United States' fourth largest city with about 3 million inhabitants. Toss in the total number of people that live in the suburbs and that total swells to about 10 million. We are going to save all that for the next blog and spend our time here describing some of the unique and cool things we did outside of this area. We’ve managed to do a lot of exploring and certainly do not want to provide a blow-by-blow of every weekend, but did want to talk about some of the highlights. If you are in the area visiting and venture away from ... read more

"Baseball is like church. Many attend… but few understand." - Leo Ernest Durocher As the fall air approaches us here in northern Illinois, the days grow shorter, the air is cooler and the leaves are just hinting about changing colors. With that, the baseball season is coming to a close. The major leagues have a few weeks left, but for the majority of the minor leagues, the season is over, the stands sit empty and all that’s left are memories of the season concluded. Dave is working one last contract and we’re staying in a smallish city about 25 miles west/southwest of the city with big shoulders, Chicago. We arrived in early May and will be here until November. We knew there was a lot do given our location, but we were pleasantly surprised to learn ... read more

1.No, i dont believe that Castiglione's description of what makes a man IDEAL, I believe that it depends on the time period as well as the society and culture. People have different perspective on what they believe. The way Castiglione describe men, yes i believe that there are still menlike that today, but it is just really difficult to find them. 2.Castigione believed men should be that way, because of what they experienced, as far as the bleack death, people were doing anything that they could to prevent it from happening again, even if that meant changing their beliefs. 3. I believe it is better to lead through love, because when you lead through love, its a genuwine feeling, and people look up to you for the right reasons, violence is the easy way out, but ... read more

Well, my roadtrip thus far has been as grand an adventure as one can expect 4,000 miles to be. Our first stop was Chicago to visit Doug, where he humored my Pad Thai craving and took us to a Thai restaurant up the street called "dib." The food was pretty inexpensive, but it was beautiful. Never have I eaten such aesthetically pleasing food, and I was not expecting it from a place that sells $7 Pad Thai (though the inside was decorated quite well, so I shouldn't have been surprised). I forgot my camera when we went to dib, but Doug took pictures with his iPhone (thanks Doug!), so I'll post them. Then, we went to the grocery store to pick up a few things and picked up some gelato at the gelato counter in his ... read more

May 18, 2008 I didn’t sleep well at all last night (probably 45 minutes out of 3 hours) because I was so nervous/excited/sad. I decided to just get up at 4 am and get some last minute stuff together and get ready to go. Lolina woke up, and then we moved my stuff by the door to wait for my taxi. When he came, we loaded it up, and I said goodbye to Lolina. That was really sad since she has been like my mom/grandma for the past 4 months. I was going to the airport with Leah, so we went to go pick her up, and then went to the airport. We got our tickets, went through security, grabbed some breakfast, and headed to our gate to board. We left Sevilla and landed in Madrid ... read more

Well...the day is FINALLY here! I have been waiting for a very long time, seeing as though this break seemed to never end, but alas, its here and I couldn't be any happier! I will be flying out of O'Hare on a 4:50 flight this afternoon, and will arrive in Madrid at 7:45 am Thursday (12:45 am at home due to the 7 hour time difference). Then I have a 3 hour lay over in Madrid til I fly to Sevile at 10:45, getting there at 11:45 (4:45 am). I haven't decided if I will be awake or dead tired due to the time difference and lack of sleep I forsee happening on the planes! But, I will probably be too excited anyway to want to sleep! Our hotel in Seville looks very nice! We will ... read more

So I found out yesterday where I will be living...finally! My Senora's name is Dolores Velázquez Ferrer. I don't know what her family composition is like, and wont know til I go there for the first time next week. She lives about a mile from my school, which is exciting because some people live so far away they have to take the bus. I'm hoping a nice walk is all I will have. It'll be a nice way to get my exercise in to! haha Along with the address of my Senora's house, I learned that I will have a roommate. Her name is Julie, and strangely enough went to high school with a girl I am friends with at SMU! She goes to St. Thomas which is in the cities. I can't wait to meet ... read more
