We began the morning in Gardiner, Montana, woke up early, and drove into Yellowstone. The park is definitely much, much bigger than I thought - it took us over an hour to get to Old Faithful. Of course, it is nowhere near ready to burst when we arrive, so we walked around it a little bit and saw many small bubbling pools. The water was not only crystal clear and beautifully tinted, but the heat coming out of them was enough to warm me even though I was a few feet away and the wind was blowing extremely strongly. Their one downside? They smelled like rotten eggs. Absolutely awful. Then we decided to just sit and wait for Old Faithful to do her thing. And, as her name implies, she didn't disappoint. The wind blew most ... read more

We arose early, in excited anticipation of getting home to our wives and families. If a teleporting device was available, we would make use of it with cost being no object (we would have to purchase lithium crystals). But there isn't. We had a walk-a-bout in moab and were able to leave in the early afternoon. Lively debates ensued as to the route home, but we heard there was some possibility of rain, so chose the more westerly route that would direct us away from the higher mountain passes. After a few hours, we stopped in the blistering sunshine to partake of pizza at Donahues's request. Heading north again we donned sunglasses and another coat of sunscreen and sang beach boy songs to each other as we traversed the interminable Salt Lake City freeway. We soon ... read more

Hey there, We are now in cascade, idaho but it started a few days ago car b got to kelowna friday night late, had a few beers with buddy dan and made very intricate plans to ride saturday morning. Saturday morning comes, and we aren't moving very quickly due to the few beers we had friday night, so......breakfast it is. car b has a great ride with buddy dan though, concluding with sheer drops off a rock face that none of us would had attempted had it not been for the trail ahead being slightly obscure.....due to the few beers we had friday night. car b was late, so we had to forego showers, and picked up the motorhome, our castle for the next ten days. motorhome was loaded and we have yet to hear from ... read more

Hi all. We made it to Boise Idaho today; not a very long drive, about 3.5 hours but we did stop at the Snake River and took some pictures and enjoyed one of the stops along the Oregon trail. Weather has been in the mid 80s everyday which makes for great driving. Included are some pictures of our travels so far. Love to all. The Perrys... read more

Yesterday we went on a tour of the Filer area. The Hooleys are great tour guides, I must admit. We went and hiked around a local rock formation. Next we saw a local alligator and fish farm. The alligators were huge! I believe they grow them until they are pretty large, then sell the meat at a local restaurant. We also visited a local spring and fish hatchery. We were able to walk around and see all the different sizes of fish. They even had a viewing window in one of the ponds where there were salmon, trout, and sturgeon. The sturgeon had to be at least 6 feet long and who knows how heavy. I headed to Boise in the afternoon to meet Natalie. We went to dinner at The Ram, and her friend Emily ... read more

Today started out as another cold day of riding, nothing new though looking at the trend this last week. I did not hit any rain today, which was a nice change. The scenery was very nice today, especially around the Salt Lake City area. Going up toward Idaho things get a little more sparse and barren, but it is still a decent drive. It was nearly all interstate today, as I needed to make some good time. I wasn’t able to get a hold of Dale to see if they would be around tonight, so I called Andy Hooley and he said no problem. Isaac and Sarah are around too, so it is nice to see them again! I ended up hearing from Dale, and he said that he and Diana would be leaving early in ... read more

This is the most suspenseful part of any journey - getting to the beginning. Somehow airplanes don't feel like travel, it's more like a time machine that whisks me through time and space. I can never get my head around time zone changes and distances when I'm in an airplane. I'll feel much more comfortable when I'm on the ground in Marrakech and I can start my journey by land. This blog is mostly a warning that if you're on my subscriber list you're going to be getting quite a few blogs over the next couple months as I travel from Marrakech north to Paris. ... read more
