Tuesday August 22, on the road again this time heading east. As we were leaving Oregon we took a scenic road that parallels the highway and stumbled upon the most beautiful Multanomah waterfalls. There's a big visitor's center with a restaurant so we stopped for pictures and breakfast. It turns out this is the most visited tourist attraction in the entire state of Oregon. We got back on Interstate 84 that follows the Columbia River. This is the prettiest interstate highway and there are various stops with information about the Oregon Trail which passed close by. There are even areas where you can still see the wagon ruts. Passing through western Oregon once again it hits you just how big this country is and how much open space still remains in these areas. In other ... read more

We arrived in Boise late last night. The aunt had beds ready and we crashed out. The drive was a long one, we caught the 7:20 ferry out of Bremerton, Seattle at 8:20 and we were on the road. (The ferry gave us, and specifically Little Z, a nice wake up time to run around before sitting in the truck for hours). Kennewick was the lunch stop. Towing a trailer for the first time makes for nervous parking... finding a place that we can get into and out of safely. Walmart allows for a monstrous parking lot and a trailer taking up 6 spots is unnoticed. McD's was a good stop this time as the climbing toys again gave Little Z a place to burn off some energy. As we were finishing up our lunch ... read more

Hello everybody, hallo iedereen, It's our last night before arriving in Portland OR. We will be off line for a week or so because of no internet. We are staying over in Boise ID for the night. Tomorrow it's gonna be another 400 and something miles of driving to do. In the past days we have made up some time by driving 5 to 600 miles a day. Once in Portland we will have put about 2900 miles on the rentalcar. So far most of the time has been driving. However we have been able to see a few nice things. The birth house of John Wayne was one of them. This is in Winterset Iowa. For any of you that are planning to be in that area by the end of May, make sure you ... read more

I thought I should blog Boise a bit, lest my readers elsewhere be under the impression that nothing exciting happens here. I quickly pulled out of my post-France funk and have been thoroughly enjoying my time at home before I set off again. My days are full of riding my bike along the Boise River and visiting friends. My evenings are booked with going out for one more drink with friends I won’t see in a couple years. I have managed to escape the heat in the valley a couple times and go up north of town to float the Payette River with friends. So, here’s a quick synopsis of the past few days. This will probably be interesting only to my friends who have never been to Boise, or Idaho, or the States. Last Wednesday ... read more

If you want to read in English skip down to the bottom of the blog. It’s not a translation, but I did break out of the French eventually. Je veux ... read more

February, 1986 My father was working for an Exxon-affiliate in Colombia and he was transferred to Boise, ID. I know, of all places we get shipped to Boise. Everyone always makes a weird face when I mentioned I lived there. I really don’t have much of an opinion of it, as I was very young; I just have very vague childhood memories. My mom says she liked it a lot; it was a nice, quiet town. It only had one shopping center, and the first mall was being built when we left. I guess I can say this is when and where I learned English. I was two-and-half years old when we lived there. I have some memories of pre-school, a neighbor’s dog, toys, parts of our house, and thanks to pictures, snow. For some quick ... read more
