Cologne-Clean Bandit "'That's right' said the Intelligent Man. 'Unless someone can do something about it'" The Great Divorce I am not brave. Most people when I tell them I am traveling alone, by bike in an unknown countr, just assume that I am fearless and wonder what my mom thinks about what I am doing. She’s fine with it, even happy that I seem to enjoy what I am doing for once. I think she is supportive, but I will have to ask her to be sure. But, oh, most of all no, I am not fearless. In fact I am one of the most easily scared person that I know. I am afraid of cars. Frightened of open water. Scared of kids. Petrified of commitment. Panicking at the idea of speaking in front of a ... read more

Well today was an 80 mph Interstate 15 day North to Salt Lake City. The Cities Main St parallels the Interstate, so inand out of the City was relatively easy. The entry and exit were typical of American Cities. Mile after mile of fast food, malls and general business., car dealerships and gas stations, what would ever happen if we ran out of gasoline!! Was surprised at the downtown core. No different than any other city. Not sure why I thought it would be. The Temple St area ant the Olympic Village was beautiful. Walked through the Temple Garden Where we took a few pics. Into the Genealogical Society of Utah to look at our families history . Both Kate and I spent an hour and a half on the research computers. We were up early and out the door to Boise State University for our 10:00am campus tour. The campus was very nice, we toured the recreation center with a full gym, indoor track, Olympic pools, outdoor equipment rentals rock wall; we got to check out their football stadium with "blue" AstroTurf, the quad, the student life center, various buildings and a huge lecture hall. W learned about costs and how non-residents can obtain resident tuition and so much more! After we walked across the Boise River (which runs through their campus) through a beautiful park with a rose garden and geese to downtown Boise for lunch. On the way back to the car we walked by Zoo Boise and were surprised to see it only cost $7 to enter...but we just weren't in the mood to ... read more

On the road early for a short drive 2 hours south to Boise. The drive down I55 was pretty, we followed the north fork of the Payette River and saw some pretty crazy upper class rapids. Our campground is just outside Boise in the town called Eagle. We got settled in and then headed into the "big city" of Boise. We navigated through the city streets (lots of one ways) and made it to Boise State University to familiarize us with the area for tomorrow's campus tour. The we headed to the interpretation center of The Perigrine Foundation Birds of Prey Center. The mostly highlighted Falcons and falconry as well as owls, condors and hawks. Their primary focus is to repopulate an endangered species and they have been very successful. It was a neat little trip ... read more

Since we were able to get so much done on Tuesday packing, plus, we were able to get a 2 bedroom suite at the TownePlace Suites if we could check out on Wednesday, we decided to leave Wednesday afternoon and head to Boise. This would also give us all day Thursday to explore the Columbia River Gorge area on our way from Boise to Portland. This morning, Ron picked up Scott and the rest of his stuff, then came back to the hotel to pack up all of our stuff. We killed some time in Provo, then headed to West Valley City to meet up with Cindy for dinner before heading to Boise. Tonight we stayed at another TownePlace Suites and were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. This one had ... read more

I tease myself too much sometimes. The holy grail of my USA journey was to somehow get to Montana State and see the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. 5 months earlier I had to turn back whilst in east Wyoming. This time around I was in Idaho and even closer but again I turned back reaching my final crest in the magnificent Craters of the Moon. Once there it was a gradual decline, hitting neutral in the car, crawling my way over the speed limit down the mountains toward the coast of California and my eventual, inevitable flight home. Idaho doesn’t get too much of a wrap in the states. Dominated by mountain landscape, there is one plain that’s an arc shape that goes along the south. The main city is the capital Boise. Which ... read more
