Day 3 - "don't worry guys, we're fine!" seemed to be our motto of the day. we start off our morning at the Coke Factory, and after filling our bellies with way too many different Coke products, we head back to the hotel for a quick nap before heading over to watch Crown rehearse at Kell High School. We finally got to see our Precious and bring him some Chick-fil-A and Gatorade, then headed off to the Geogia Dome to catch up on all of the DCI action.... read more

Day 2 - the journey continues! we make our way out of Florida and into...traffic! It took a little bit longer than wanted or planned, but we finally make it to our hotel in downtown Atlanta. Due to some trouble at the front desk as we were checking in, we managed to get our parking comped for the entirety of our stay, as well as an upgrade to a corner room and 24-hour access to a fully stocked snack bar in the club lounge - not bad! After settling into our room we pick up some snacks and LOTS of water bottles (they don't call it "Hotlanta" for nothing) and head out to do some exploring. We hit up the always-exciting Georgia Aquarium for some aquatic adventures and free live jazz, and then find our way ... read more

I was scheduled to take Delta airlines flight to Quito, Ecuador. The day started with major mess ups in their flight, half of the flights delayed, half cancelled. I was flying SEA - Salt Lake city - Atlanta - Quito. The first flight was delayed, second missed, then another delayed and finally I ended up in Atlanta few min before departure. I ran to the flight wishing I will make it, and as soon as I landed at the gate, I saw flight officer close the gate. Me and few other passengers shouted, we are here, but she won't budge. We all told her their flights were delayed, we are all here, there is no flight for next 24 hrs, lets us in. But she won't budge. The plane just sat there for few minutes while ... read more

Hello from Atlanta! Had a pretty crazy journey but I'm here at last. I left for the greyhound station at 11:30 yesterday, then was told the website was wrong and there wasn't a 12:25 bus, so I had to wait 5 hours for the next one. I arrived in Atlanta at 4:40, which was too late to check in to the hostel I was going to stay at so I just had to wait at the Greyhound station until 8am when I could check in. All's good now though, a friendly transvestite showed me a Diner where I could get breakfast, so I sat with pancakes and watched the Korea v Greece match on TV. In a few minutes I'm off to the Georgia Aquarium, which is the biggest aquarium in the world. Not sure what ... read more

Get Thee to Merry Olde England - May 30, 2010 After years of being brainwashed by watching BBC shows like Doctor Who, Monty Python, You Are What You Eat, and It's Me or the Dog, we are finally going to visit the United Kingdom. I didn’t think we would make it to Europe this year with the economic still difficult, volcanic ash clogging up airplane engines over the Atlantic, and airfares skyrocketing. But after many months of searching, I used the last of my Delta skymiles to score 4 free tickets to London for me and my family. Most people choose to visit England first because it’s like cultural training wheels if you’ve never been abroad. Everyone speaks English, they have McDonalds and Coca Cola, and the measurements are all in inches, feet, miles and pounds. ... read more

Leslie & myself have been full throttle going at the fundraising. We have been emailing journalists, organizations, restaurants, etc. to see if we can get any form of donations. Right now we are seeking cash or kind. We decided to host couple of Moroccan themed events to invite the general public to try food, drinks, entertainment for a small cover. Also, we we do a silent auction or raffle prizes. Tonight, my husband & I were dining at Fanoos Persian restaurant in Sandy Springs before going over to The Punchline for a friday night comedy show. The owner of the place, Mr. Jalal came up to our table & started conversing with us about our backgrounds & interest in Persian food. He even got me a complimentary Kamakazi & some rice samplers. The food was delicious ... read more

I lived in India with my grandmother till the age of 17. She was a professional volunteer social worker for most of her life as her husband did not want her to work for money. As a child, I would accompany her to blind schools, orphanages, Rotary clubs and many other places. Once when I was 10 years old, we were at Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Chandigarh, where I overheard a comment that got tattooed in my brain. The nun who was running the orphanage said that they had about 99 baby girls out of 100 kids at any given time. When my grandmother exclaimed, “Why no boys?” she said the boys get adopted right away but nobody wants the girls. That day I decided that when I am an adult I will come by and ... read more

I went down to Atlanta this weekend to visit Dad and trade cars. My road trip is at the end of this week (my anxiety is starting to realize that too) and Dad's car is more suitable for a road trip than my Fit. So I drove down Friday and we went to my favorite sushi place (they have this special roll that no place here has and it's soooo good). We were supposed to go to six flags Saturday, but Dad had hurt his arm, so we went to the Atlanta zoo. I do love zoos, and this one had elephants, so I was happy to change plans (cats are my favorite animal: big cats, small cats, I just like cats. But elephants are second! I love elephants...). However- Knoxville zoo is better! It's at ... read more

I have now arrived at the Atlanta airport after completing my week of orientation in the Cleveland area. The week went well and I was blessed to have such a nice host family that showed unbelievable hospitality and kindness towards me. I learned much more about the work of AIS throughout the world and met many of the staff that works in the International Office in Cleveland. On a couple nights I helped one of the coaches with his u11 and u12 girls teams. On Wednesday morning, I had a "kick about" with some of the AIS staff at a local indoor facility and the game was played at a high level, which was really fun and encouraging as well. On Thursday afternoon I went with a newly married couple that works with AIS to an ... read more
