Vandaag zijn we bij de zee en het zwembad geweest en dus hebben we de auto helemaal nog niet nodig gehad. Op dit moment (17:23) slaapt Lud en type ik dit verhaal. Een of andere mongool had me vanacht om 05:30 gebeld en daarna kon zij niet meer slapen. Gelukkig heb ik nog tot 09:00 ofzo kunnen doortrekken. Bedankt Ludmilla! :) Het hotel is heel mooi, het eten eerlijk en het zwembad en strand perfect. Het eten en drink is wel HEEL duur maar voor nu mag dat de pret niet drukken. We zitten in het Riu op Miami Beach. Vandaag was het zeer warm en een beetje wisselvallig. Momenten van een strakke blauwe hemel, maar we hebben ook al regen en/of bewolking gehad. Jaja ‘we made it’. De vlucht was perfect. Niets deed ook maar herinneren aan de turbulentie die ik in het verleden op de terugvlucht vanuit Californie heb gehad. Na de nodige douane controles, snuffel honden en koffer openmaak acties (op Schiphol: Ludmilla gelooft nog steeds niet dat die kerel een slipje had achtergehouden) waren we in de US of A. Moe kwamen we de aankomsthal binnen gerold (ja gerold, wat Ludmilla had al een flesje Amaretto gescoord in het vliegtuig). Opeens kwamen we daar oog in oog te staan met iemand die ik echt TOTAAL niet verwacht had…. STEPHANIE!!!! De hostess van een eerdere Miami vakantie. Compleet met bitcherige blik, totaal doorgedraaide houding/voorkomen en overslaande stem. “Hey U heb ik eerder gezien!!!”…. Ze keek nors en ontweek m’n opmerking. Matthew's dance troupe was performing onboard the Royal Caribbean ship Majesty of the Seas. Transportation to and from Miami was up to each individual family, so we headed out in the mini-van for the 3-day road trip. The highlight of the road trip for me was when we stopped for lunch at a Steak N Shake in Alabama. It really took me back to when I lived in the Midwest. Our crew for this trip included my wife Lisa, Matthew (13), Michael (12), Nancy (Lisa's mom) and myself. Lisa insisted on using the rooftop luggage container even though I felt it was unnecessary. Welcome to Miami, Bienvenido a Miami. That is probably the reasoning of the cleaning lady. We have been driving for 15 hours. Still we can’t get any rest, since our hotel room isn’t ready for another two hours. Finally we get the keys to our room. The door is wide open. There, in the bed, sits the cleaning lady and a male figure, who probably doesn’t even work at the hotel. They are watching a soap opera in Spanish. Very hastily they leave the room with the excuse ”We were just fluffing the pillows.” How very considerate. No harm done though, and now we know that the bed is comfortable and that the TV is working...... read more

Going to Miami to celebrate my university finalization let's party generation 2000!!!!, just 90 mexicans in a crazy party of a week to celebrate 5 years of engineering lectures. The day begun at Mexico city airport a bunch of graduated kids willing to have one of the best travel experience (at least that was our best wish), taking aeromexico flight to Miami, first of all the adventure of every foreigner, specially mexican to pass migration (even with visa), but is fair to said that I've never had have a problem with this guys (just maybe a grumpy beaurocrat), just to be in context this was my return to the states after almost 15 years.
