After sorting out a banking problem, by sitting in Vero Beach and receiving courier packets, sending faxes and so on we were on the move again. Titusville was a good anchorage to sit out the t-storms and torrential rains that arrived on May 17. It also was the beginning of an invasion of 'Love Bugs'. Thank goodness these guys do not bite, because it is an invasion. They did not like the rain any more than we did, so did not plague us during downpours. As soon as the sun comes back out so do they. I can say that once we were well and truly in the Mosquito Lagoon they began to abate. The crew of Witchcraft was very grateful, they were making us a bit nuts, crawling all over us and every available surface ... read more

We made it to Fernandina Beach. Paul left this morning and I am sitting at the dock at the city marina. This is the first dock I have been tied to since Datona beach in early Nov. Feels good to be able to walk off the boat into town without starting the dinghy. Had a nice meal last night and a few beers. As always I can't afford it but hard to pass up. So the advice for being in the Gulf Stream is, never be there when there is wind from the NW to the NE. When we took off on Sun the wind was supposed to turn east at about 15 to 20 knots. That was going to be a little rough water but probably not bad of a ride. We get out and ... read more

We left Charlotte early in the morning, ready to a 11 hours trip (720 miles). But thunderstorms and the not so brilliant idea of detour from I-95 to the scenic A1A (which wasn’t scenic at all) made our trip became 13 hours. Here are two pictures from Fernandina Beach, at the extreme northeast of Florida. As you can see, they allow cars at the beach, but just on designated areas. ... read more

We are finally on the warmer side and back where palm trees grow, pelicans fly overhead and Dolphins swim along side of us. It feels so good to be back and have the tropics within reach. We have lost our tuques and parkas and have traded in for shorts and T’s. Things are going really well and we are making way as the weather permits. We are now in Fernandina Beach, Florida, and our plan is to continue south along the Florida coast and then set sail off shore and cross around mid December or so. Keep watching our spot messages as to track our progress south at www.WeBeSailing.com and open the Spot tab. Ok now for more the juicier side of things.... 1) We have changed our destination for this winter And 2) We have ... read more

Nov.,21/2009 Fernandina Beach Fl. 30.40.305 81.27.965 To date we have covered about 800 miles of latitude. We left Charleston S.C. On the morning of the 19th and headed outside for the hop to Fernandina Beach area, arriving on the 20th. In slightly more than 24 hours we finished South Carolina, Georgia and began Florida. There are some choices here, go up to St. Mary's or head round Amelia Island, we headed to the beginning of Amelia Island. Although I am a bit nervous about these outside hops I must say these last two were reasonable sailing, motoring and motor sailing. From Charleston to our present location we encountered less traffic of all sorts and that was a bit of relief at night. The radar that came with boat certainly has been useful on the night portions ... read more

Decided to stay at Fernandina Beach another day. Rentedbikes and rode to the beach and also to a Civil War fort called Fort Clinch. WE went off the road for a while and rode through the woods. Signs said be careful of the aligators but we did not see any. Had the bikes for four hours and brought them back 10 min late. No extra charge. Had a few beers in town and now getting ready to take off early to head toward St Augustine. Hope to be ther on Tuesday. Then on to Daytona. ... read more

I love Fernandina Beach. We got here about 2:00. Anchored at St Simon Island last night and left at 7:00. had a pretty uneventful day. Not much wind until we go to the fuel dock and then it picked up to about 20 knots and slammed the boat into the dock. Sounded like fiberglass cracking. Everything looks ok but have to wait and see. Then we motored over to the slip for the night and tied up. Looked around and people were out on the docks in bathing suits sunbathing and drinking beer. It was summer again. We went into town and watched some football and drank a beer and saw a little blues band playing. Washing clothes now and then going back to a little restuarant that has a jazz band playing and get a ... read more
