For breakfast we decided to try the famous cafe du Monte, but when we got there the line wraped around the For breakfast we decided to go to the famous Cafe de Monte ,but when we got there, there was a line wrapped around the whole building, which was more like a tent. So we got in line and settled down to wait but then dad made friends with a kind of matir de ( I don't know how to spell that) and dads new grill-wearing friend got us right in! It was delicous! We then went and walked around New Orleans, which I liked way better in daytime. The buildings were so much prettier by day, they were extremely old looking French buildings painted in all different wild colors. We walked all over by the stores ... read more

We slurpped our last Panhandle Oyster, put away our flip flops and sunscreen, stocked the freezer with pink gulf shrimp and grouper from Shrimers's Seafood Market on Route 98 and bid Florida adios! The Emerald Coast has much to offer; and we'll be back. On the restaurant side, Cafe Tango on Route 30 A in Santa Rosa Beach was impeccable. We started by sharing scallops, moved to wonderful salads with blu cheese dressing, and chose two entrees; one the grouper special with shrimp and the other rib eye with chimichurra sauce. We topped it all off with a nice bottle of red and finished with croissant bread pudding. A really memorable meal. Reservations urged at this tiny little chef owned jem. McGuire's in Destin Harbor was fun. We "sharpied" a dollar bill (one of over $200,000 ... read more

March 7, Saturday A late start, not that we're in a hurry of course, and we rolled on along the gulf coast, through Perry and along State Rd 98, then up to SR 20 to avoid the mess of Panama City. A pretty ride took us to Destin Florida, right along the coast again, and we stopped to check prices at the Destin Inn. Price looked good, so we decided to stay 2 nights. We went to the movies, saw Slumdog Millionaire, which just won 7 Academy Awards. It deserved them. March 8, Sunday Today was a split up day... I rode on to Pensacola to go to the National Naval Aviation Museum, while Deb walked along the coast and shopped at Goodwill, had a latte at Starbucks, and had a day to herself. We've discovered ... read more

Sitting majestically along the coast of the Florida Panhandle, Destin is without doubt one of the most gorgeous stretches of beaches in the world. A relative newcomer among the popular vacation destinations of the Emerald Coast, this city is fast becoming one of the best places to go for sun, sand, and relaxation along the Gulf of Mexico. In Destin you will find not only the multitude of golf courses and the beautiful beaches but also the abundance of water activities that will keep you coming back year after year. As a part of the Emerald Coast, Destin is blessed with the same attributes as the other cities that line the southwestern corner of the Florida Panhandle. The beaches have sugar white sand, whose color is caused by the Appalachian quartz that arrives at the coast ... read more

Hello Everyone, This is the first post and we'd like to start off with a quote: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain/ Samuel Clemens This site has a fair amount of options for us to provide you with a pleasant viewing experience. Hopefully I will have the time and regular computer and internet access requisite to keep this interesting. Hello from Destin, Florida. After a week on the road I’m finally sitting down to update the blog. Lots of news since the last entry. Hopefully I can recap concisely for you. In late January, after several months of research, I made a deal on another RV. On Monday, February 11th, I left Chessy in the mountains with Jeff and Toni, and headed to Tampa, FL with Trina - minus Ike. I picked up my new rig on Wednesday, February 13th. As you will see from the photos, I upgraded from a Class C gas RV to a 35 foot, Class A diesel. It’s a “FRED” - Front Engine Diesel. In spite of a few initial bugs and minor things that need to be addressed, it is a marvelous rig. I have 3 slide outs (two ... read more

We spent the day at the beach again, and then had a nice dinner overlooking the water. We had a wonderful time in Florida with Tim's mother and her friend Marie Therese and her husband William. They were very gacious hosts and we enjoyed our time with them. Here are a few shots from the restaurant.... read more
