Sandhill Day This was a lovely slow morning, watching the news, listening to the wind and having coffee, heavenly. Then the wind got to rattling the awning and it was time to take it down, replaced the brackets once, that's enough. The nor'easter that the folks up north are supposed to get this weekend is starting to form here and we are expecting rain and some sever wind further north of here. I had a wonderful shower in the newly renovated bathouses, then headed for Walmart for a few supplies. It is a huge store so it took me a while to find what I needed, then stopped and had the car washed. I knew it was going to rain but I had to get the salt and grime from up north off poor Petunia. The one about Happy to be home in Clermont. For whatever reason, I slept in Sunday morning; I never heard the rigs around me pulling out. Must be all that walking! I was ready to hit the road by 10 after slowly breaking camp. Fortunately, it hasn’t rained since that first day and the field was dry, and I easily made it off the grass to the pavement. I bid Joanne and Joan goodbye, and I will see them down the road in 2 weeks as we prepare to go to New Orleans. Joanne told me I made a smart decision not to attend Saturday night’s entertainment as the guy told the same jokes he did last year, and his wife really went over the top with her religious gospel preaching. But, they decided to attend ... read more

The one about the damn bug bites. Not writing every night poses some interesting problems for me. But, there’s no such thing as problems, only solutions, and this is mine. I keep notes on my adventures, I check my credit card receipts so I remember things, and I look at my app, SWARM, to remind me where I’ve been. It’s been 3 days since I have written, and trying to put it all in chronological order is probably beyond my old and addled brain. So, my solution is treat the 3 days as one day and write about the interesting things, forgetting about putting them on the right day or in the right order. Author’s prerogative. Ginnie called me very early the morning I left Lake Louisa to let me know the campsite next to her ... read more

The one about the end of my long drive. OMG, last night was so bloody interesting. Remember that couple that invited me to dinner? The deputy sheriff and his wife? Well, picture this. My rig can fit in two Walmart spaces. My wheels are inside the lines side to side and front to back I don’t stick out. I selected a site with 2 of these types of spaces to my left and a whole bunch to my right. A small truck camper pulled in first on my left trailering an open thing similar to what my lawn service hauls their stuff around in. Whatever was inside was covered with an orange tarp tied down with bungies. Until I went out to walk Winston, I didn’t realize that the sheriff pulled in TBoning me, with his ... read more

Friday was the last day I planned to stay in Clermont, and I had a few bits an bobs that I wanted to do before diving into the pool and staying there for a while! I filled up mu water bottle with ice and water and told Patty I'd be back in about an hour after going to the craft store so I can be a scrapbook geek when I get back to the UK. As I was walking into the shop, I noticed a really nice looking nail salon. My nails, I had done at the beach, were pretty crappy, despite them being gel nails they'd already almost fallen off. So I popped in and an hour later I came out with pretty new nails. I then spent an hour in the craft store.. Apparently ... read more

Before I start Wednesdays post - I've just noticed that I am being made to look pretty illiterate due to a combination of no proofreading and autocorrect on my phone or iPad just being ridiculous. I am, on the whole, someone with a slight grasp on the English language, despite evidence to the contrary. Sorry for all the jibberish! So... Wednesday. Plans really got changed around and Patty and I ended up having a very relaxing laid back kind of a day. We had a good float around in the pool... Until thunder in the distance convinced us to head indoors and do productive things. It didn't actually rain at all.. I guess it was just natures way of us get on With our day! Unfortunately for my bank account and baggage weight limits.. The productive ... read more

Tuesday morning and my first thought was my car. Getting to Alamo at Orlando airport would be hours of a job and there were no closer locations. As the car is brand new patty suggested that I take it to the local dealer and see if it's something really simple that can just be fixed. I got into my car, started the engine and there was no engine warning light... Nothing. I decided to drive a little way to see if it came back on and if it did take it to the garage... If I went without the light on they'd just think I was some crazy English! As I drove the light sort of flickered on and off and as I was low on fuel, I nipped into a petrol station. As I was ... read more

Hi everyone, I realize I was supposed to write this weeks ago, but we have been soooo busy. So much to do. March in Clermont was really nice. We did get to visit with our friends, Val & Dwight. They took us on their boat and through the canals - I love it, it is always enjoyable and so pretty! We also got to visit with our friends Cory and Sandy - we met them at Brimfield and used to enjoy seeing them there - but they are no longer setting up there. They are 'snowbirds' also and luckily, they are not too far from us when we stay in Clermont. The weather in Clermont, in March, was mostly around 70 degrees. We were able to 'set up' at a flea-market, in Webster Fl, not too ... read more

Blog Florida 2014 The winter escape adventure started in a snow storm, well as it was blowing out. As happened last year, there was a snow storm the night before my departure that dumped about 4” on us. I was able to head out about 11:30 am and as I traveled west on 80 there were snow squalls to reinforce the need to get out of this cold and into the sun and warmth. I stayed with my son Dave and his wife Lisa in their home in Laurel, MD. It was great to have a visit before leaving the north for 2 months and I was able to see my granddaughter’s new apartment. Because it was a Sunday I drove around DC with little effort and was on my way south on 95. Put on ... read more

The One About Campers Really are Great People! Growl. The ants are back, or they never left, and a new group has hatched. Not as bad as previously, but they keep showing their ugly little selves. One night they were all over my dinette table and Winston’s water bowl. The next afternoon they were in/on/around the garbage can. I keep spraying with my borax water, which really does work and kill those it comes in contact with immediately, but a few must escape and move on to a new place they haven’t been before. The stove is next to the garbage can, so I sprayed in/around/under it today maybe to head them off. When the borax water dries it leaves a fine white borax grit, and the ants won’t go near it, or if they do ... read more
