I spent several hours visiting Celebrity's cruise ship The Infinity yesterday. She was docked in the Port of San Diego. I found the day to be a success, due to picturesque setting of the San Diego Harbor, and the many features and amenitites that make up this upscale cruise ship. The "Infinity" is the second of Celebrity's ships I have done shipboard inspections on. I visited the Mercury while at a trade show last June in Seattle. The Mercury was built in 1997; the Infinity in 2001. She contains 1,059 total accommodations, which is a combination of 50 suites, 853 outside cabins (with balcony and without) and 206 inside staterooms. The Infinity offers a mixture of traditional assigned dining, alternative restaurants and one restaurant upgade for an additional price of $30 per person per meal. Reservations ... read more

Woke up at 4:15 AM and then... Well we drove all day and night to L.A. (didn't leave my house until about 6:00AM) and it was pretty intense, because of all the partying and stuff to take care of last week we all realized a few hours into the drive that we were extremely behind in our sleep. I took the first shift, drove to Mt. St. Helen's exit in southern Washington, and then Jord took over and drove to Eugene Oregon. We bought Ryan a new digital camera, which worked out great since in retrospect there is no tax in Oregon. Ry drove from there to the Cali border where we almost ran out of gas, thankfully some tiny gas station in an unknown town saved our ass. I took over the drive from there ... read more

The next morning after doing some much needed laundry we set off to San Fransisco, arriving around lunchtime. Our first real experience of crack addicts - which was truly disturbing. As we were quite early, the room at the hotel wasn't ready, so we parked the car in the hotel garage and went off in search of some action. We found it at Castro (the Gay district). There was a "Post Pride" festival on (what luck); food, music stalls and beer!! We stayed till it finished in the late afternoon, and a nice old fella called George helped us find the way home (because of the festival some of the tram stops were closed. Of course we bumped in to a "queen from Sydney" his own words (I think Ausies are other Ausie magnets)! And ... read more

So we drove on to Yosemite with a brief stop in a motel in Merced to give our backs a rest. We were told it would be impossible to get a space on a camp site but actually we had no trouble. We stayed here for a few days and went on a horse ride, hired bikes and did a couple of walks. The famous waterfalls weren't flowing but we saw lots of wildlife - a couple of different types of squirrel including small red stripey ones, a tarantula, lots of deer, a wolf ( we think ). On our last walk on which I left Sara for the bears half way up I saw a large Bob Cat which is a lot cuter than a mountain lion looking mostly like a super size moggy.... read more

The next day we drove around Beverly Hills, and Mick is sure we saw Reece Witherspoon. We saw the Osbornes house, and some others. Was OK - maybe next time we'll do the guided tour. We drove through Rodeo Drive to Venice Beach. There was a kind of weather phenomenon that day that caused the coast of California to become completely fogged in! Apparently it is not unusual, but made for very dismal photos of venice beach. It was an experience however. We continued our drive north along the coast road in the fog! And did I mention before the crazy US road signage (or lack of it), we made the wrong turn on a number of occasions. We were going to stop exactly half way between LA and San Fransisco, but there was no room ... read more
