We got up early last week and headed out to Yosemite National Park. It's a 3-hour trip regardless of which of the three entrances you drive to. We took HWY 120 - the trip took 3 hours. The first thing we did was hike up to Vernal Fall bridge. It's an easy hike with a nice view, I told Dave. I was amazed at how much steeper it got since the last time I "walked" it. Then we went to lunch at the Ahwahnee. Best French onion soup ever! Soup and sandwich - only $50. But what a view. Then we drove through the valley while I pointed out to Dave most of the places I had ever lived. With all those moves, it's amazing I ever had a chance to find a job. From the ... read more

We were collected for our 2 day Yosemite Tour by our guide, a big Kiwi guy who turned out to be very knowledgeable and joined the other 9 people for the long drive to the National Park. We stopped half way to choose our included lunch at a large deli with masses of choice where they made fresh sandwiches to order. We ate these, plus a whole load of other stuff we selected within our designated budget, at various stops around the Park later in the day while keeping our eyes out for Bears. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny, and our guide decided to do the high areas on the first day and the Valley on the second, as the sky was so clear. First stop was the Toulumne Grove Trail, a winding path ... read more

Twenty-eight of us were on a seven-day adventure to three National Parks in Central California October 3 to 9, 2010. On Sunday, our Alaska Airlines flight took us from Seattle to Los Angeles where summer weather greeted us and promised a pleasant trip. We spent the night in the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in the heart of the city. Completely refurbished, bright and clean, the hotel is now managed by Millennium Corporation. We admired the tasteful art deco design, especially in the Tea Room where we relaxed during High Tea. After a peaceful night's sleep, we boarded a special 1920's car in the Amtrak train going north to Monterey/Salinas. Our group of seniors was given the antique Silver Lariat car with a private dome and dining room. What a luxurious way to enjoy breakfast as we ... read more

Hi everyone, After driving for a couple of days through death valley stopping for a night in a motel in a town called Bishop we arrived in Yosemite National Park. Driving through death valley was staggeringly hot, they tell you to turn your air con off so the car doesn't overheat!! We probably only passed a couple of cars the whole way, on the really straight roads which looked like they went on forever!! Arriving in Yosemite was a complete contrast to death valley, there are so many trees and even snow on the mountains. We got to our hostel which is located on the side of a mountain surrounded by pine trees. We were pleasantly surprised that we were in a 4 bed dorm rather than the 12 bed that we booked, plus we only ... read more

We had an early morning as we were driving from one end of Yosemite National Park to the other. We drove for a solid couple of hours having a few scenery stops on the way. A very scenic drive and very enjoyable. One of the most beautiful drives and a really stunning National Park. The beauty of the natural landscape is really incredible. Once out of the park we drove to a small town called Lee Vining and stopped for some lunch. We then drove to Lake Tahoe to the hotel we were staying at. We had a look around the little shops and then had dinner. We then relaxed in our room for the rest of the night.... read more

Hallo allemaal!!! Echt TOP! Groetjes, ... read more

One of the hottest days of the trip saw us trekking up to Bridle Falls. The heat was 96 Fahrenheit and the walk was steep. It was a relief to hear the sound of running water when we reached the first point. There was stunning views. We stopped for a small paddle then walked back down as it was nearing midday and the heat was rising. At the bottom we caught a shuttle to the Yosemite visitors center. We watched a small film in a well air-conditioned theater and looked around the Native Indian village. We grabbed a pizza and went for an early night.... read more

An early breakfast in the hotel was followed by a drive into Yosemite park. We started with El Capitan which is a huge rock formation that a lot of people like to rock climb on. We then drove along to Glacier Point which is a viewpoint from where you can see most of the park. We then drove on to Mariposa Grove which is the home of the giant sequoias. There is a huge tree there called the 'Fallen Monarch' which is basically one of the giant sequoias that has fallen down. We walked on a little further till we came across the Grizzly Giant which is one of the largest trees in the grove and is apparently over 1,800 years old! Another short walk and we arrived at the California tunnel tree which had a ... read more

Left San Fransisco and headed across to Yosemite, a four hour drive through flat hot countryside. It was 106' F and we had the air conditioning on all the way and listened to local country music station. We were told we had no hope of getting a campsite, but when we arrived there the ranger told us to go up to "White Wolf" camp which was further than the popular Yosemite Valley sites. Luckily we got a site and settled in for the night, putting all our food into the heavy duty bear boxes which are located in every camp space. This is serious bear country and they raid your camp and steal food even from inside your car! The scenery here is unbelievable and we decided to hike from Glacier Point to Yosemite Valley because ... read more

Went and bought some beans and bread in the shop and made a breakfast in the lodge. Drove to Yosemite Valley. First stop was Bridal Veil Falls which was aptly named as the water seemed to evaporate as it went over the top of the cliff. Andy and the Boys wanted to climb up as far as they could. I went half way and stopped to take photos of them and then decided to climb a little higher to get a better view and then i got stuck and couldn’t get down. I got really scared as by then i thought the boys would be down and wondering where I was. I caught someone’s attention and asked if there was a way down but they said no so all i could do was climb higher and ... read more
