Hello Everyone! We have spent the last few days at Yosemite National Park. It was really awesome. No cell phone or e-mail. Mist trail was incredible and the weather was the best we have had. Today we went white water rafting. We attached a few pictures from that to show you. Click on the individual photos for a larger view. Pete is in the front seat and will be on your left (right side of the boat) and Culver is right behind. Tomorrow morning we hit the road heading east. We are keeping this entry short and sweet but will update it again soon with details about both Yosemite and White Water Rafting. Only one stop planned for the way home, Chicago to see Binky and Pat Jam. Maybe Leroy Brown? We put Binky in charge ... read more

Easter Sunday held an evening ride from Santa Cruz to Fresno, not to necessarily visit family and the Easter Bunny (though I did have an Easter Dinner and beautiful family waiting for me) - but to embark on a couple day adventure with two wonderful ladies...well four if you count our furry companions. After Sherie and I arrived in Fresno and were greeted by Phoenix and her wonderful home-cooked Easter Dinner, we slipped into sleep land for a few hours. Our goal was to get to Yosemite by day break in order to get a prime camping spot. But, as usual, we slept in and didn't manage getting on the road until about 2ish on Monday afternoon. Which ended up being perfect of course. We were lucky enough to have one of the last three spots ... read more

What can you say about Yosemite or Yo!-semi-te. This truly is one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen. And I have been blessed with seeing some of the worlds most beautiful places in the last year!. If you come to America and do not see this valley you really are missing something. Spring is apparently not even the best time as a reasonable amount of the park is still snowed in and closed. But the waterfalls were in full flow and really the highlight of the valley. This really is a case of a picture is worth a 1000 words so I'll let the pictures speak more for me on the beauty of the place We spent three days in Yosemite, staying about an hour out of the park in a village called ... read more

Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. We arrived in Yosemite Valley in the afternoon. After a quick stop at Bridalveil Falls we headed straight to the gift stop to get a map and badge as we weren't sure how long we were going to stay. We booked one night in a cabin and would decide from there. We headed to the ranger station and got a newsletter and worked out what we would do while in Yosemite National Park. After talking to the ranger we decided to stay an extra night. When parking your car in Yosemite you need ... read more

The drive to Yosomite National park along high way 140 for the most part is pretty boring crossing a lot of agricultural land through one horse towns. The landscape gets more interesting a for the last hundred or so miles turning first into small rolling hills before the climbs become larger and we are winding our way through dramatic views of high wooded hills and rivers running through low valleys. We arrive at around four in the afternoon at a Youth Hostel set into the Wooded Hillside, there is snow on the ground bright against the darkness of the woods. We take a double room. It is a small hut, musty and old style with patch work quilts, wooden floors and a battered old wardrobe. Its a cosy trip back in time. There is no phone ... read more

Yule time is a special time of Christmas trees, carols, cheer, church, family, friends, gifts, candy and Santa Claus. Nearly anyone who lives in the Northern Hemisphere can relate- December 21 is the death of darkness when the days only get longer. Others can relate to the birth of Jesus on December 25. We welcome the light of the world by bringing a conifer tree into the home, singing songs and giving gifts. There's just something about the mystique of the snow and the forest that seems to echo the solitude and splendor of Winter. How fortunate to be able to drive just 3 hours north on Christmas day and find yourself amongst the forest, snow and mountains of Yosemite! Perhaps the most impossible of landscapes Mother Nature has provided humans, this time of the year ... read more

Shanghai - San Francisco… across the ocean one more time, ready for my first true American Christmas & discovery of the Yosemite National Park and California coast line. And what an amazing trip! Thanks so much Stephen for those few days spent together and see you on the 9th! Christmas celebrations Absolutely love the time difference between China and the West coast, left early on the 24th and arrive even earlier on the same day, ready for a three hours drive to Fresno with Stephen to spend Christmas in his family. So…for “breakfast”, well, lobster! :-) Followed by the Christmas church service (American style…culturally interesting) & Christmas dinner at his cousin house. Lots of family member there and a whole new experience for me with paper candles lined up in the street, Christmas decoration absolutely taking ... read more

Yosemity Valley, Wawona Campground. 27-10-2002. After several days of pleasant and relaxed hiking I'm back on my old steel lady, my cr*ppy 100 dollar bicycle. My *ss feels once again like it belongs where it now is, right on top of the old fashioned leather saddle. I'm on the way to the south entrance which is only 16-odd miles but the first 8 miles or so gonna be up, up all the way to 8000 feet, up to Chinquapin Pass. I know I will have to work myself into a sweat but I also know it's gonna be worth it. just before leaving the valley I see a nice little spectacle, a queue of cars parked at the site of the road, people running up and down the road, camaras flashing and numerous ohs and ahs ... read more

Yosemity Valley, Sunny Side Campground, 26-10-2002. It takes the four of us nearly half and hour to drag this 150 kilogram steel food storage container back to its original place on the campground while the japanese ladies give us high shrieked excited advice, most of it in japanese which I happen NOT to speak. There're pamphlets all over the valley warning people to keep any food or drink locked up in these iron food containers to prefent bears invading tents and cars at night, and even during daytime. I presume our nocturnal furry campground visitor from last night was after the cold chicken that Steve and Dawn had given me for breakfast last night when I had dinner with them. Hard to believe that our shaggy friend managed to drag this heavy container at least 200 ... read more

Yosemity Valley, Sunny Side Campground. 25-10-2002. "We give praise to the Lord and thank him for this food". I've never been much in the way of religion but I obligingly bow my head repecting the faith of my hosts. While Steve gives thanks to his God for food and red californian wine I allow my mind to wander back to the hiking I did today. Today I hiked all the way up to North Dome which is at 7250 feet altitute. Getting up was the sweaty part off course. I was half way up when I met Steve, strinking up a conversation with him while we laboured our way to the top. Massive and weirdly shaped granite boulders covered in moss, slightly slippery and uneven going but the views up on top of North Dome were ... read more
