This past summer I spent a little over 3 months in San Francisco, working with the Center for Student Missions (CSM www.csm.org). My job was City Host, and this entailed me leading groups of students (usually from the ages 13-17, but I did have one adult group) around the city working on service projects. We spent time at soup kitchens, kid summer camps, food banks and other organizations supporting people in need in the city. It was an amazing experience, it was hard work both physically and emotionally draining but very rewarding. There were 8 City Hosts and 2 City Directors (that live there full time), and I was very blessed to have had the opportunity to work such great individuals. I learned so much from them and they encouraged, supported and made me laugh when ... read more

to all my wee irish lovelies - how jealous are you ? - hope you all loved your early morning texts of me completely and utterly excited by my experience yesterday on our first day in san fran : first we stumble into a bar selling Magners cider on tap, then we get to see SAW DOCTORS live in concert in SAN FRAN!!! and they were fantastic !! couldn't believe my eyes - we were walking from our hotel to the harbour area - good 30 min walk or so eyeing up all the sights - the cable cars, lombard street (the famous crooked street) etc. and all of a sudden some bright lights in front of us were "SAW DOCTORS" with people queueing outside - I was soooo excited when we realised the concert was ... read more

After our Yosemite Park adventures, we headed west to San Francisco to a hostel based in the heart of Chinatown, which is home to the second largest Chinese community in the States. Walking around the streets, you could totally forget that you were in the USA....everyone was speaking, eating and selling everything chinese! I imagine that this must be what it feels like for a Spaniard to walk around Cuidad Quesada.......We had a great chinese meal there and we were spoilt for choice as there were literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from. We obviously visited the famous Golden Gate Bridge - what can I say?? It's a big metal bridge, very long, very orange, still a bridge....I think we were missing something! However the Golden Gate Park was amazing - it was a Sunday afternoon ... read more

Hello friends and family! This is my first entry so I please be patient. I hope to get better at this as we go along! :) I'll be landing in Paris and then on to the train to head to Provence, where I will rendezvous with my parents for a couple of days before we head off to see the town of Toullouse and other sites in the country side area in the south of france. Please check back often, as I'll try to do my best to update as frequently as possible. Also, I'm still learning how to integrate photo's taken. So for this first entry, I'm putting up a couple of recent pictures of me just for reference in case anything happens! Please email me often, and I promise I will respond to all ... read more

The following day we found a great rv park literally minutes from the strip. It also had a pool and brand new gym!! We decided to continue the celebrations and spent the day in a indoor theme park at Circus Circus. There were hardly any queues so John made us go on this looping, fast, scary roller coaster 20 times in a row and my head was so sore from screaming. He just laughed on all of the really scary rides. That night we had a really nice dinner in the fake venetian town and walked around the Italian boutiques. The nest day we made a HUGE mistake. We hadnt eaten all day and it was about 5 pm so we thought why not go to a buffet at the Monbte Carlo. Well, we got so ... read more

After a crazy weekend in Vegas we headed for the tranquility of Yosemite National Park. We firstly hiked around the forest looking at all the Secoya trees, the biggest trees in the world and took some photos before heading to camp. In the morning we had a free day in the park. Faye and I decided that instead of spending the whole day doing one hike up to a waterfall, we'd hike up to see Mirror lake, something I wanted to see having been to Lake Louise when it was frozen. Then from there we'd do a smaller waterfall hike and then chill out over a coffee! Mirror lake was stunning. It literally did mirror the mountains in the water as it was so still. Faye and I then spent some time taking some stupid photos ... read more

It's absolutely a cool feeling when you're sitting in a cafe talking to an attractive man, then he proudly intruduces his cute boyfriend to you. Ahh...How disappointing! But indeed, men couples have created a beautiful picture holding hands under the rainbow flag in this gay community, Castro. Unfortunately, I came here with my beloved mother so didn't dare to stay too much longer. Chinatown in SF is another highlight to my surprise. It's home to many fine antiques, high quality arts and crafts. You can sit down and listen to old Chinese street artists playing ErHu, I don't remember seeing that kinda scene even in China nowaday. Grant Avenue's prosperous and drug-free image does give me a ancient Tang dynasty feel. whereas many other Chinatowns that I've seen look more like QingRenJie than TangRenJie. Anyways, heard ... read more

OK -- Here goes! Following Ed's departure on Saturday AM, I got ready to travel with just about 24 hours notice. Work issues wrapped up, dog care coordinated, and bags packed, I headed to SFO International. Caught at non-stop Cathay Pacific flight which ran 14 hours from 1AM US Pacific Time until 6AM THE NEXT DAY Hong Kong time. "Let's do the time warp again!!" No photos for Sunday, because I looked like hell after battling all night with the guy who was sharing the 4 center seats with me. Not so good at sharing, he stretched out across 3 of the 4 seats. After a little not so subtle nudging from me, it all balanced out. Thank god for the video iPod (THANKS, ED!) ... I was pretty much entertained non-stop by "Fat Actress," "Weeds," ... read more
