Hi Everyone, Welcome to Daniel & Janice's Travel Blog!! Over the next ten months we will be using this blog to keep you up-to-date with our whereabouts, adventures and general musings and observations as we travel across the globe. As many of you know, Janice and I have longed for the opportunity to take to the open road / skies / sea for many years and after about ten very exciting, challenging and rewarding years in the Insurance and Software industries (respectively) we now have the opportunity to live the dream! We are now in the final stages of preparing for the holiday of a lifetime - Janice celebrated her last day at work on Thursday this week, my last day is coming up this Friday and then we have about 5 days to wrap things ... read more

Well....it's now only five weeks until I wrap up the corporate life in the Software industry that has kept me busy, motivated and challenged for the last ten years or so and we head off into the uncharted waters of life on the road as a "backpacker". For Janice and I this is going to be a very exciting time as we explore those parts of the world that we've always wanted to go or have just not spent enough time in! For an overview of the places we plan to visit, please view our route map.... read more

We had numerous family photographers documenting our night at Dave and Buster's with the SUMMA graduating seniors, Match Day, The Move, and our chill-out time in L.A. before leaving. Enjoy! Also, look out for an update from us now that our disposable camera pictures from Carnaval in Salvador are on Snapfish! ... read more

The Mom Perspective on Match Day My mom sent an email to our family in the Philippines detailing Match Day from her perspective. We figured it sufficed as guest blogging, so here it is, with factual modifications. Also, you can check out a link to a Stanford Report article about us on Match Day at http://mednews.stanford.edu/matchday07.html. Yesterday was a very exciting and hectic time. At 10am, the advisors handed out the envelopes containing the letters telling each med student where they matched. Meme and Leroy had different advisors, so they opened their letters individually. Melissa got one year at Harbor UCLA for her transitional year (radiologists have to do a year of doing the rounds treating patients before they spend 4 years doing radiology, which does not have much patient interaction -- at least that's... read more

Well, not quite yet. We still have a lot of last-minute stuff to do before we can take off and be on vacation. For example, Melissa has research responsibilities still (this will probably be true for life), and being halfway around the world does not an easy project make. Leroy, in the meantime, is busying himself by stalking the AA.com site and checking to see if we got our free upgrades. Tomorrow will be the typical pre-trip day -- laundry, packing, making lists and checking it twice (and then some more), running around like headless chickens... Just 124 days until graduation. And we're spending 103 of them on the road, in the air, on the beach. We hope you'll join us on this excellent adventure, whether by reading our travel blog or meeting us along the ... read more

Well, after a busy first half of senior year (and an awesome weekend with friends), it's time to head out. I'll be riding a limo shuttle to San Francisco International, where a flight will take me out of California and into Incheon International Airport in South Korea. Then, I'll stay in a hotel for the night before departing on a separate flight to the People's Republic of China. The flight to China initially cost $700 (the flight to Korea cost around $1300), but now it's free because I'm using my frequent flyer miles. Now that I can't drive my car anymore it's going to be depressing for the next two weeks (just kidding...it's going to be an awesome trip). I'll try and update this blog everyday with photos while I'm abroad so that you can keep ... read more

Well. I realise I haven't done very well with keeping up writing in this thing, but to my credit I just haven't had time! Camp is so ridiculously busy, I worked crazy hours for very little pay (some may say scandalously little pay, and draw parallels with slave labour, but that'd be very cynical, wouldn't it?) and even in my 'breaks' i would usually end up sorting out some mess or other, especially since in the last session Oonagh left to join Pomo tribe (oldest girls), after all summer she'd been Acting Tribe Chief when Sal had a day off, not to mention a brilliant cabin leader. So for the last session I got to be ATC which would have been better had it not been for the overwhelming EVILNESS of these kids! The kids in ... read more
