Hey folks, Here we are - our final spot in the 2 weeks of the US of A. We opted for the money saving option of travelling overnight on the greyhound from San Francisco to Hollywood. Fortunately this time we foudn a seat by the emergency exit, which meant extra leg room...and that was about it really. The journey took a dooable 8 hours, during which we had a stop at a Burger King, in the middle of nowhere. Had to make a loo stop so followed the other bus dwellers into the BK and foudn the restrooms. And then I went back to the bus. Some people, on the other hand, thought it a good plan to have a BK whopper meal at 3am in the morning. Now, I was hungry at this time, but ... read more

So, I'm about to buy a car. Actually, I don't even have a driverslicense yet. I did my DMV test last wednesday, but I failed. My last driving lesson that I had, I was driving when it was dark outside. At one point when I was making a right turn, I drove up on the curb with my rear tire. I couldn't see the goddamn curb, there was no lights there so I couldn't see anything in the mirror. So anyway, my instructor told me that if I did that at the DMV, they would fail me immediately. But she said she wasn't worried because I'd never done that before. So, we went to the DMV on wednesday. I me the guy that was going to test me. And the first thing I do, is drive ... read more

Well picked up Dan Keys from Lax on thursday arvo and and it's been a pretty crazy couple of days since then. First we boosted staight down to a deserted Venice beach to try and check out some freaks but apparently they don't like the cold weather, so after a quick stroll around down town Santa Monica we cruised back to the lovely Susan Mathis's place to get ready for dinner. We ate with some more of her Lawyer friends at an Italian BYO resturant and then went out for a few drinks at a cool underground bar. The next day was jammed with a nice sleep-in, followed by Rodeo drive, Beverly Hills, Hollywood and the Sunset Boulevard before we stumbled across UCLA (the LA University). That place is freakin awesome!!! And what made it even ... read more

HI ALL, We're on our way! We left Greenville early yesterday (Friday) morning for Atlanta, expecting to make a 10:30 flight to LA. Delta canceled that flight without warning (par for the course for poor ol' Delta) so after much squeaking of the wheel by Dick we got another flight that put us in LA about 5:00 PST. Along with our luggage, thank goodness! Then the guardian angels from Crystal Cruise Line took over and all was well. Three of them were waiting anxiously for us in the luggage area. We were whisked by limosine out to the Beverly Hills Hotel, next door to the Beverly Hills Hilton where the Golden Globe awards will be made tonight. We hustled on our glad rags for a welcome dinner last night courtesy of Crystal. They said there are ... read more

Today was spent updating all these entries and adding photos at an internet cafe 2 minutes from our hostel. Believe it or not it's still raining and after an early morning call to Disney we were advised that the rides were closed and there was no point in making the journey. We're both gutted about this but Fiona especially, the weather really has been mental here so there's not many photo's, it's been a good time though and we've met a lot of great people, LA really is party central but we're looking forward to Hawaii and that wonderful beach, roll on tomorrow, let's just hope the flights OK. I don't know when I'll get on this again so enjoy the photo's, I've added loads right from the start so you can all go back and ... read more

Guess what? It's still raining, big style. We spent most of the day in bed then the hostel put on movies and pizza at night so we just chilled in the TV lounge. We've met a few people here that were in our last hostel in San Francisco, I can't remember them but one dude mentioned me dancing on the table on Hogmanay, it's a small world after all. We're hoping to go to Disney tomorrow but are worried about the weather.... read more

Up early this morning and met a Scottish girl at breakfast, it's still battering down today so we're at a loss, a guy from the hostel, Boogie, is organising a sight seeing trip so we put our names down. The tour was great, a full day, 12 of us from the hostel in this mini-van with a mental German dude driving and talking us through it, what a day, you really need a car to see LA and this was defo the best way to do it. First stop on the tour was Beverly Hills and Bell Air to see some of the stars homes. It's like another world. We saw Tom Hank's house, Arnie, Leo DiCaprio, a few more and of course Angela Lansbury of 'Murder She Wrote' fame! Next stop was Beverly Hills and ... read more

It started to snow as we left our hotel in Vegas, not a good sign when we got to the airport and our flight was already delayed by 2 hours. Took off about 4 hours late and landed in LA some 40 mins later, we could have got a bus here in that time, not to worry though, we landed in LA and it was pouring down and it's not stopped since. LA is HUGE, it took us over an hour to get from LAX airport to our hostel, it's in the Melrose part of town, think Melrose Place the TV show, it's next to Sunset Boulevard and the Hollywood hills are in the distance, well they would be if the fog ever lifted!! We wandered around Melrose at night in the rain, it's really battering ... read more

First let me say what an awesome game! Hats off to Michigan fans who made the trip. Michigan has some cool traditions and fans. We went for the game and found out just why so many people love SOCAL. My wife and I had been to the Los Angeles area before, but had stayed near Huntington Beach and Newport Beach several miles inland. We had a great time, but the flat land and miles of freeways around there didn't do much to inspire us. The area around the Rose Bowl and between Venice and Pasadena was very exciting. Nice drives and vistas and though we had to drive forty miles to the game and parade then back again for parade float viewing the roads were well kept and fast moving for the most part. We stayed ... read more
