Flew Orlando to Los Angeles International (LAX) with a 12 hour layover enroute to Sydney. Caught a local bus through the city to Santa Monica Promenade where I wiled away the hours by shopping in the variety of designer shops and trendy boutiques; then strolling along Santa Monica Pier. The pier was eclectic, with things like the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company to The NY Trapeze School (yes, I considered enrolling so I could spend my days dangling on large pieces of ribbon). The weather was comfortably temperate and the people distinctive. There were a variety of international tourists, college students, and families roaming the streets and beach in their Toms, Vans, and other hip footwear. The right shoes was key. The people were generally approachable, with one traveler giving me bus fare change and a ... read more

This morning we left Ventura and headed towards sunny LA. We stopped off in Santa Monica for an hour and walked down 3rd Street Promenade and along the waterfront whihc was such a gorgeous street! Very flash with expensive shops but El bought a cheap top from Victoria Secret! We bought an amazing pretzel for lunch (not the best lunch but tasted amazing!) We didn't have much time at Santa monica but will be heading back later in the week hopefully. We left Santa Monica and drove via Venice Beach to our hostel in LA. Our hostel is literally right on Hermosa Beach which is pretty awesome. Very noisy but gorgeous views! It was a beautiful day and in the afternoon I was sitting by the beach waiting to meet Rach and Bradley Cooper walked past! ... read more

Here we are in the City of Angels. The streets are literally lined with cockroaches and glitter. Had a bit of a rough journey from the Greyhound station to our hostel which involved numerous buses and a mexican gangtsa trying to sell us a teeny tiny chiauaua (seriously it was probably only a few weeks old and should have really been with it's mama). Eventually we arrived late at night and went out to get some food. We are staying in Santa Monica which is a really nice place - just off Melrose Avenue. Going to go searching for the walk of fame later I reckons. The last couple of days in San Francisco were really nice - we went to watch the Giants play (they won of course) and ate a lot of nachos in ... read more

Hi everyone, this is our last blog. Not got too much to say but we had a great time in Fiji and spent most of it sunbathing and relaxing and met some really nice people. We then flew to LA on the 26th May and due to the time difference we had to repeat this day again! We coped well though and the sleep seems ok ..... so far. We spent the day in Hollywood and went to Hollywood Boulevard and saw the stars along the walk of fame, Kodak and chinese theatre and we then paid for a tour of the city and saw the celebrities houses and roads etc. Today we made our way to Santa Monica and shopped! We also saw Hangover Part 2, hilarious! Tomorrow and Sunday we want to do some ... read more

Hey! I've got one day left in LA, and I've really enjoyed stop no.1! Spent two nights in Hollywood, did all the tourist things there like walk down the Walk of Fame, visited Madame Tussauds and the Grauman's Theatre (where they have all the Hollywood film premieres) and went on a siteseeing tour which included the Hollywood Bowl and the house and the end of Pretty Woman with the balcony scene. Really enjoyed it. I also visited an outdoor shopping place called the Grove and the Farmer's Market, where an TV showbiz news show was being recorded (there are film crews everywhere). The presenter was the Latino guy from Saved by the Bell! Can't remember the character's name but it's Mario Lopez in real life. And he was interviewing two new stars from the new Pirates ... read more

After an early night I decide to take advantage of a sunny day and head over to Santa Monica Beach. At the bus stop I meet a nice guy named Robbie who takes me to the interchange where I need to change buses. We discuss food, as I usually do. He is surprised I'm Australian, probably since my accent has already started to change as people find it difficult to understand me. The next bus takes quite a long time to get to Santa Monica but was well worth it. The beach is immense! At the end of the pier is a small theme park with the only solar powered ferris wheel. People are fishing off the edge and they seem to be catching quite a few small fish. I grab a chilli cheeseburger (I find ... read more

With new friends and old, I should start by saying that I have been craving change for many years. I always only got as far as threats to relocate to Argentina or NYC and ended up moving three times in three years within a 2 mile radius throughout Santa Monica. Well, I am proud to say that I finally learned to follow through and walk through all the fears to get to the beginning of what I know will be my greatest life changing experience to date. This dream to take a year to travel the world is now a reality and it began with the decision to break out of my comfortable state of complacency. First, by resigning from a 10 year run at the Jewish Community Foundation, then allowing myself to spend my savings ... read more

Habe viele Fotos ... read more

Hi Friends and Family, So we're still on the topic of Santa Monica - the beachside of LA! We took so many photos that it needed a blog of its own. We had been on the Hop-on-Hop-Off Sightseeing Tour of "StarLine Tours" and were on the Yellow Route which went through Santa Monica Pier and Aquarium, 3rd Street Promenade, Rodeo Drive, Westwood Village, Fox Studios and Marilyn Monroe's grave side at Westwood Memorial. Again, it was a very warm day and the place was packed with both tourists and locals as the place not only had a pier but also a mini amusement park and a Hippodrome (carousel) which is a National Historic Landmark. It was built in 1909. We wanted to step foot on the Pacific Ocean so it was important that we frollicked in ... read more
