Today is Oct 12th, 2010 We spent last night in Sedona. What a nice campground. We have been in Oro Valley, Arizon for my nephew, Zac's Wedding. What a great time we had. We rented a house there. Shea, Vicki, Gage, Sara & Shane stayed there with us. Sean & Liz stayed in a hotel. I guess I should go back a bit. We spent Monday the 4th of Oct with our friends in Cortez. On the 5th, we had the flat tire on the camper on our way to Shiprock, NM. We spent the night of Oct 5th in Show Low, Arizona. We arrived in Oro Valley on Wed Oct 6th. We stayed at the Catalina Campground that night and then we stayed at the house the 7th,8th 9th and left for Scottsdale on the ... read more

The highlight of Sedona for us was the Pink Jeep Tour. This went up onto the rocks, scaling some rather precarious slopes and boulders. The rain spoilt the views somewhat, but it did add to the general driving experience. The guide / driver pointed out lots of interesting shaped rocks, including those that looked like a 747, an eagle, an elephant, a rabbit, a movie camera and a princess. The adults found some of them quite hard to see, but the kids obviously had a bit more of an open mind as they were pretty convinced about all of them. Our guide was excellent and kept us all entertained, however it was when she got her hands on my camera that she really came into her own. She had us all posing for various shots from ... read more

It was raining for most of the time that we were in Sedona, which we not what we had signed up for. We left a long dry period in the UK to travel to what we thought was a desert. We woke up in the morning and were dismayed to see it raining, and with just the odd gap, it carried on for the rest of the time that we were there. We did manage to grab some time in between the showers to go for a walk. We were actually in Oak Creek, which we thought was Sedona until we discovered the rest of Sedona a few miles away. Near Oak Creek were some really nice, peaceful walks to Bell Rock and Cathedral Rock. I started off by going for a run and discovered a ... read more

The first thing we noticed when we arrived was how friendly the Americans here are compared to Florida when we went there two years ago. US immigration is always traumatic, but where Orlando airport had the obnoxious Gestapo officer ruling her domain (see ), the lady who was directing the queue in Las Vegas airport was happily chatting to the children. The second thing we noticed was how hot it was. We had to wait outside for the bus to the hire-car centre, which was a surprising distance from the airport terminal. It didn’t take long, but with very little shade, it was a torturous wait. Our car was a massive seven-seat van, which our daughter described as “cool”, much to the amusement of the guy in the hire-car office. He had apparently never heard the ... read more

Geo: 34.8408, -111.776We stayed in Las Vegas for 2 nights. Saturday night was packed, people everywhere. We went and saw Cirque De Soleil, Myster'e. It was excellent! On Sunday night, we went and saw the Blue Man Group. The were hilarious!! Did I spell that right? We left on Monday morning and headed to Sedona. It was a long drive, but very scenic. We got to our hotel and called the McIntyres and went over to their condo. It is a very nice place. Mike barbequed some chicken kabobs and Ann made the rest of the meal. We also had some wine. It was a great home cooke meal. After dinner we did a little touring with them before calling it a night. The next morning, we met them for breakfast and then went touring around ... read more

We took a short drive yesterday - well what was supposed to a short drive that turned into an all day road trip. We went straight across hwy 89A from our site to another dirt road and found sights we never expected. There are all sorts of remains of indian homes at the base of the red rocks. The "host" of one of the sights said that a guy named Willard homesteaded the land in the area and when his wife died, he moved up into these hills to a place some Hopi guides had taken him - at 65 years old. He lived in this cave for 3 years while he was building his ranch house (which is now the rangers station). He planted all sorts of fruit trees and had quite a garden there ... read more

This is great... It's our first night of "boondocking" and we have the perfect spot! It is so quiet here - aside from the occasional car going down to Angel Valley a couple miles past us. Our water tank is full, our generator is working perfectly, we're level and stable and have the most wonderful view! We are going to aclimate to this boondocking lifestyle over the weekend - we'll take our first hike out to Bell Rock tomorrow morning. There are bound to be a lot of people, so Allie will get her fill of attention I'm sure. Oh, and I have totally neglected to let you guys - Lucy caught two mice in Catalina State Park and while we were at Dead Horse State park this last couple of days, she caught another one. ... read more

Well our first night of boondocking went quite well. I can't say it's roughing it when we still have TV and the stove and such, but well, it's still called boondocking.... We woke up this morning to hot air balloons on the horizon as the sun was coming up. Pretty cool. They danced along the top of the hills for about an hour or so before drifting out of our sight. After a hearty breakfast, I packed up a lunch and some water and headed out for a hike. We couldn't find the one we actually wanted to go on, so we took a chance on a different one - well actually 3. We combined Teacup, Sugarloaf, and Soldiers Pass to make it a 6 mile trip. Al wore her packs again and did very well. ... read more
