Friday June 13 2008 Drove to the condo to say our goodbyes to the girls - sad we have had such fun with the kids, Becky and Lisa and the food! Wine was pretty up there as well. John, Mike and I went on 'Mermite' (Johns boat - named by Tayla after mermaids and marmite) over to Halibit Cove lagoon. Stoppped at the trail head for a quick look then fished for salmon, none about. All the locals cant beleive it. Todd arrived in his water taxi and we followed him out of the lagoon. Stoppped and fished off 'righthand beach' - no fish at all. Arrived back at 5pm and drove up the hill, magnificent views over Homer and Kachemak Bay. Caught up with Todd and went to the Salty Dwag to listen to 'Three ... read more

June 12 2008 (2nd entry) As Aurora and Taiga were not to good we headed to Seldovia. Took about an hour. seldovia is further out in the Cook Inlet not accessiable by road "home of 307 friendly people and a few oldcrabs" that it the town slogan. We laughed as John was told off sternly by the severe looking woman harbour master (obviously on of the crabs!) for going to fast. had a lovely lunch at the Mad Fish. Walkedaround, people fishing off the bridge you could see all the salmon coming up as the river was so clear, just amazing. Seldovia is a lovely town, the day warm and sunny a place we would like to come to again. Very peaceful and just a tad unusual. On the boat back to Homer, took approx 45min ... read more

Monday 16th June 2008 Did the washing at the laundry mart - had the most interesting conversation with a man who was a'tad odd' told us 'a robin wont feed 5 people' you learn something ever day! Sure passed the time while waiting on the washing chatting to him. Had a pet ferret and was covered in scratches. Walked to the P.O. and posted mermaid home. met John at the bank and went to the spit. Mike and John moved Mermite while I did a bit of shopping. Went to the Homer Brewing Company for lunch. tried a couple of beers and decided Scottish Red Knot was for us. sat outside and had a 'brat' (hotdog, which was yummy) with our beer. headed for the Grass Hole. A few caught, but not by us. eagles flying ... read more

Eagle Battle at Tracy Arm I know this one is way overdue and I've had all the time in the world to put up some of the Alaska pictures, but a lot has happened since July of 2008. At any rate, here is a teaser. Tracy Arm (a glacial fjord) is located along Stephens Passage, just around the corner from the strange little capitol city of Juneau in "Big Southeast" (which would be better called "Big SouthWet"). You can find it on a map, but don't Google it for driving directions or you might get something like, "...drive onto float plane." Juneau has plenty of roads, but they don't go anywhere and no roads lead to Juneau unless you're coming from Skagway. How you get to Skagway is via Juneau. Not that I recommend flying in, ... read more

Cruising slowly through a maze of icebergs dotting the dark emerald, frigid, but flat, calm water. Sheer cliffs raise straight up out of the water, 3000 ft , on both our port and starboard, to the touch the grey clouds above. Waterfalls plummet down the granite faces into the water below. When we returned to Seattle after our trip to BC with the owners of the yacht, we each had four days off. I took off to see Candace in Tampa on an overnight flight . Tampa was experiencing typical south Florida summer weather, with on and off thunder showers, so we didn’t make it to the beach until my last day. Even then, the clouds rolled in at warp speed and sent us running for the car after just a couple hours of sunshine. It ... read more

My brother in law and i went to play some golf today, after we went to "Flo's pancake house" for breakfest. Flo's was great and i havent had such a breakfest for ages. anyways, we went to his farv course but they were holding a tournament so we couldnt play there. We went to a very public place and rented a set for me and we started off. it was a complete joke, not that i hadnt played the game for 2-3 years but the course, the fariway was more or less rough and the green was 20% concrete with a carpet ontop. when we got to hole number 6, a bum was sitting at the teabox with his beer. after the drive we went to get the balls and some local kid came riding his ... read more

There i was, just got off in Anchorage, Alaska, i was really tired after 24 hours of travelling. I went to go through the passport control, no problems there. I took my passport and proceeded to get my bagage, when i heard a voice "Mr. Turner, would you please come this way?" hah! i was going to be interrogated. They wanted to know if i knew how severe a crime it was to smuggle stuff, if i was doing anything like that, apperently they seemed more conserned about smuggling birds then drugs. that bird flu is a serious thing over here. Anyway, after the little conversation i went down to get my bagage. When i went through the customs, they were suspicious at my bagage, jeez, they went through my suitcases and when they opened the ... read more

Day 16-17 (July 13-14, 2008) Beaver Creek, YT to Haines, AK Good morning/afternoon wherever you are.... In this blog I will combine two days of travel…Sunday and Monday. I left Beaver Creek, YT on July 13 bound for Haines, AK. The Beaver Creek campground has this pesky raven that was hawking all evening and then all morning. I don’t know what his problem was but as you know, they are scavengers and gouge on what tourists leave behind. And they are all over Canada and Alaska. Had a good ride back down the Alaska Highway. This particular section from Whitehorse to the Alaska border is probably the worst section of the road with lots of upheavals and gravel patches. If a person takes his time, you can make it through this section without bottoming out your ... read more

I know it has been a while since I last updated my blog. I have had many adventures the past few weeks. June 26th was my boss's birthday, so the girls in the office decided to surprise her. We decorated her office the night before with streamers and balloons and then we also baked her a peach pie which is her favorite. In the morning she came in and was completely surprised and we lit candles in the pie and sang happy birthday. We were close to setting the office on fire because we used trick candles and sparks were flying. Then that night we had a very large campfire party for her and it was a lot of fun and went into the wee hours of the morning. On June 28th, I went into Anchorage ... read more
