August 7, 2008 Rafting ride on the Talkeetna River in Alaska. Talkeetna. a small tourist/artist town that is just southeast of the Denali National Forest and is a starting point for many of the mountain climbers that dare to scale the peaks. I arrived in Talkeetna after two nights in Anchorage. I stayed at a lovely hostel in town and found my way wandering through town where I spotted a sign for a rafting ride. Who can say no? Had a wonderful Bear Tooth Ale while waiting for the trip and then we gathered together and traveled in a van to our launch site. It was a very beautiful evening. We didn't see much wildlife, but a bald eagle, beaver, and salmon. Apparently we missed a baby bear by about 20 minutes. (Which would probably mean ... read more

Finally on the way out of Talkeetna, after many days of hiding herself, she is finally out. (Well almost, you can kind of see the peak through the clouds. Drove back to Anchorage and on the way stopped in Palmer to drop off Jennifer and Tressa, two travelers from San Francisco making their way through Alaska. Palmer is in the valley where there are many farms framed by the mountains. I loved the barn frame and flowers!... read more

Greetings from Michigan: Four days til "lift off". :) Weather has turned cooler here. I suppose in preparation for Alaska. Front page of newspaper entertainment section today was about Mt. McKinley. Even more preparation and excitement. I have added a few more friends and family members to this blog, so let me know if you receive it. As mentioned to the early "beta testers", this is a travel blog that I learned about from a friend as she and her boyfriend traveled around part of the world on scuba diving adventures. Through them, I have been to Costa Rica and Australia, as well as other places I can't remember. Hopefully, I will be able to share some of our trip to Alaska with you. Have a great week and to paraphrase an old time kids tv ... read more

In Search of the Midnight Sun - Chapter 4 August 6, 2008 Denali This day apparently had more sun than they had seen in a month here. We went to the Information Center in the Park to book our bus pass for the next day to drive into the Park. They only allow private vehicles to drive to the 15 mile mark. But, there are many options for bus tours. We opted for the most popular and cheapest using the regular green school bus type transportation. You can also book for how many miles or hours you want to travel into the park and get off and do a hike or whatever and get back on a similar bus as they pass every half hour on the road. Busses start at 5:30 AM and we booked ... read more

In August of 2008 ten members of the Menezes family took a seven-day cruise on the Holland America Lines ship Volendam. They left from Vancouver Canada and sailed to Seward Alaska covering 1,400 miles. The ship made stops Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway with visits to Glacier Bay National Park and College Fjord. On the last page is a picture of the participants from top left, Mikey, Donny, Maya, Michel, Karen, Sylvan, Maxanne, Rachael, Jane and Billy. It rained the first five and a half days of the cruise but that’s Alaska. We had a wonderful time. In Ketchikan we took the 4hour voyage on the boat from the "Deadliest Catch " TV series the "Aleutian Ballard". This was a great family activity. The boat is very well equipted even though it was raining the seating in ... read more

Juneau is located in Southeast Alaska, and the current population is approximately 30,711 people. Our economy is based on government, tourism, mining, and fishing. Also, the only way you're able to get here is by boat or plane. Basically, Juneau is an amazing place to live, and you can always find something fun to do as long as you don't let the rain stop you all the time.... read more

We are 7 days away from leaving for Alaska. This trip has been on my "goal list" (or bucket list as it is now called) for 9 years. We are finally going. :) :) I am testing this blog and hope that you receive it. If all goes well, I will be able to send you pictures and commentary on some of the things we are doing and seeing. You can even respond to my "blogs". Well, let's see how (and if) this works for me. (A response would be good to add to this test.) God bless... Bill... read more

Notre second arret eu ... read more
