Sunday, July 8, 2007 I did wake up at 6:30 am when they made the next port call. I slept well. The waters were calm so there was little rocking, however the ship did vibrate. Frank said it was like “magic fingers”. We walked the dogs ashore and feed them. The morning was gray and rainy. It was very chilly on the deck. We spent the early morning hours in the observation lounge. The Inside Passage is site of the Tongess National Forest, the largest national forest in the U. S (and basically it’s a rain forest). A Forest Ranger rides the ferry to give talks and answer questions throughout the trip. We enjoyed the presentations. In the morning the ferry went through the “Wrangell narrows”, a 21 mile stretch of water that is about ... read more

Well it's another year..I'm 27! I can't believe it! I had a pretty fun birthday...the whole cast went out for dinner and then we went for drinks at the Martini Bar onboard. My favorite part was after that...we had a theme party in the crew bar. Everyone had to wear a hat and get their face painted by me...it was pretty hilarious! Other than that there is not much news...enjoying my time in ALaska but also getting excited for the next ship. I got a contract on the Norwegian Dawn which will be sailing out of NYC for 2 months and then out of miami! I'll be much closer to most of you! Well, enjoy the pics and I can't wait to see you all! ... read more

We docked in Juneau at about 11:00 with sail in music up in The Crow's nest. Then we all troop off the ship down the gangway to sight see and shop. We have our photos taken hugging the Alaskan Polar Bear for the scrap book. John & Scott & I set off walking to explore Juneau. We find the Russian and Catholic Churches, then walk down to the Alaska State Capitol Building. John poses in front of the Fairweater Fisherman Statue. We walk down the hill to shopping area - in search of the perfect xmas tree ornament, T shirt, magnet (s), and other tourist paraphenilla. John goes back to ship while Scott and I find a cute little "mom & pop hole in the wall" shop that has every tourist item one could want. ... read more

So it's now close to the end of Day 2 of Deb's Crazy Cruise Experiment. I'm in Juneau now at an Internet cafe which I found as quickly as possible after practically running away from my tour group that I spent the last 5 hours with. Not that there was anything wrong with the tour group, or with the cruise itself, but this whole experience is just REALLY not me and I feel pretty confident saying that this will probably be my one-and-only commercial cruise. Please don't think that I got on the boat with this attitude entirely. If you read my previous blog entitled Why Cruise Ships Scare Me, you might think that I did. The fact is that, skeptical though I was, I still found myself excited by the prospect of getting on ... read more

Juneau, Alaska is the capital of Alaska but there is no roads that connect it with the rest of Alaska. The only way to get to Juneau is by boat or airplane. After docking in Juneau I went on a float plane trip over the Taku glacier. Not to far from the city was miles of snow and ice. In fact the Taku glacier goes on for up to 70 miles. To really see alaska you have to get above and see the great size of all the natural wonders. After the plane trip I suited up to go sea kayaking in Juneau. I entered two person kayaks and entered the sea. We traveled about 3 ... read more

Ok....I resolve to be much better at updating this blog. I have so much time on my hands there really is no excuse for not keeping this current. We arrive at all of our Alaskan ports very early in the morning and then have the rest of the day to do whatever we want. So I have soooo much time on my hands. I've finished a few books...one of which is the Secret....I highly reccommend it. And I've also knit some scarves. So I will update this more frequently. The last two weeks were pretty crazy. We had so many reblocks because people were injured or sick. We had an outbreak of GI (the vomitting/diahrea cruiseship sickness) and for 2 weeks had to stay downstairs away from passengers. Aside from that it has been fun. ... read more

Pam, Mary and me were up and out in Juneau at 7:00 a.m. It wasn't really cold, just rainy. We wanted to get to Mendenhall Glacier, but the weather did not cooperate. So we wandered town looking for decent coffee. We found some and contemplated our day. We decided to shop for a bit then go to the Alaskan Museum. The shopping was great because everything was at least 50% off. This bargain shopper was very pleased! Then we hiked over the the museum. It really was a great museum. Well laid out and everything labled perfectly. Beautiful examples of Tlinget art and tools, costumes, etc. After the museum we went looking for lunch and beer. Found both in abundance. Alaskan Beer is very good. I really liked the pale ale, which is unusual for me. ... read more
