Well, we're back in Daleville, AL now. We headed back up to Tennessee last weekend and finished up our last few remaining projects on the house and got the Jeep as ready as Matt could get it for the long trip from Tennessee to Alabama. So now the house is empty...freshly painted, empty and ready to move into today! Hopefully someone else sees it that way soon :) I also came up with a few ideas for how to leave Copper alone without having to disinfect the hotel room after we come back every time. One is to find a way to baby gate the boys in the kitchen (the kitchen opening is really wide and requires me to get creative), which really isn't the ideal situation since the cleaning lady comes once a week and ... read more

Well, it's Day One in Alabama. We got up early this morning, packed up the car and the dogs and were off. The dogs were whining so much when we got started that I thought Matt was going to either throw them or himself out onto the highway but they settled down after a little while and were really good the entire trip. We got into Daleville, AL (right outside of Fort Rucker) and checked into our hotel. We got the large suite...you think of a nice place when you hear the word "suite" but this really isn't nice. It's big, which is nice, but not very clean. But, it's cheap and they allow dogs, so I bought the Wal-Mart version of Clorox Cleanup and started bleaching. That helps :) After Matt got checked in on ... read more

2/4/07 Panama City has some cool attractions, but it looked to me like it was mainly a big party town so I decided to mosey on down the road and work my way further west along the pan handle. Panama City has a cool looking Ripley’s Believe it Or Not location which looks like a boat. That night made it to Gulf Shores, Alabama. This area is under lots and lots of development. It was Super Bowl Sunday and it was about 4:30 with the game starting at 5:00. I stopped at Gulf Shores State Park paid my $22 and asked for directions to a bar to watch the Super Bowl. Again the camp sites are plenty expensive for essentially truck parking, but I paid it. Went to a bar called Mud Bugs as the sign ... read more

After the week in the Pacific, I spent another day in California before flying back to Memphis. I moved to Jackson, TN to work for a couple days, then headed to Nashville for New Year's Eve. Went back to club Play downtown. Haven't had that much fun on New Year's in many years. I made some friends, then headed to Alabama. I spent a week in Huntsville. Had some very good times in Huntsville, and wish I didn't have to leave. When I wrote my first entry in August, I couldn't have imagined the places this trip would take me. All the maps and photos I'd seen of states like West Virginia did no justice. And to think I've only really seen about 3 states thoroughly... ... read more

As of today it is 22 days until my departure. I thought the hardest part of preparing for my study abroad process would be the student visa part, but it is not. The hardest part is making sure my school is on the same page. A few months ago I had my school fill out all the paper work and thought that I had everything taken care of. Luckily, I decided to go to the financial aid office. There I found out that they didnt even have me listed as studying abroad, they just had me listed as not enrolled, which means no money. I got that fixed and now I have to get everything straight with them about my address to make sure they send to the money to the right place and that I ... read more

My parents, in 1965, drove from Kansas to Ozark Alabama to visit Linda and I. I was in Flight School at Fort Rucker. As they were driving through Selma Alabama, across the Edmond Pettus Bridge they found themselves driving through the historic Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March. The Black marchers surrounded their car and pounded on the fenders. When Dad got to our home in Ozark he was telling me and some neighbors about the incident. Someone said something about the troublemakers and my Dad, after seeing the white only rest rooms and water fountains of the time said: “I would be raising hell too if I had to live like that.” I seldom heard my Dad talk like that and it was revealing to me what he thought. From Selma we drove to Marion ... read more

I have decided that the easiest/most convenient way to keep in touch with everyone is via this blog. I generally find blogs rather boring, but hopefully this will keep the audience (i.e. friends/family) updated and entertained. I will try to contribute to this thing as much as possible, and I believe you should get an emailed link when I do. Apparently this website allows for photo uploads and has some sort of interactive map...but one thing at a time. Hope everyone has a good few months, and please keep in touch when possible. p.s. Keep in mind when contributing that this is a casual family establishment. Meaning my grandparents, father, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins will be reading this stuff. Dani, off-color questions and/or remarks can be emailed to me directly at mgoldberg81@gmail.com. Day 1: BirminghamAtlantaMiamiLima ... read more

Hi Everybody! I am doing this blog as a practice and to see if it works. Walt and I are really excited about our trip to Asia. We have bought Asian passes on Cathay Pacific Airlines and plan to visit approximately 15 countries in the next few weeks. We will fly from Atlanta to San Francisco this weekend and then on to Hong Kong. If you have time, write a note back giving me news on what's happening in Anniston or with your family. Take care, Everette... read more

After all the hard work, the long hours of preparation and the ever-faithful list of things to get ready to be shipped over to Tanzania, it's finally done. The Semi-truck pulled out this last Saturday afternoon with all of our books, supplies, and household goods to make the long journey to Africa! So here we are, relieved and tired, with a great ~Sigh~ time to catch our breath and begin to focus on the 4 weeks left here in Alabama. Preparing for the coming months and adventures in moving and acclimating to a new culture and society that's ahead of us. Time to really hit the books on our Swahili again! I really can't believe that its just 4 weeks away now. It dawned on me a few days ago as I was walking through ... read more
