Monday We greeted Monday morning with a free breakfast because Manuel agreed to listen to information about the property we are on. Rebekah and Manuel own a timeshare within the group that we are at but, of course, the owners always want the people to own how they could "improve" their ownership so for an hour of time we got a free breakfast. I enjoyed fried bananas which I had not had before. They were quite yummy! After breakfast we caught a shuttle to Mercado Venteocho...Market 28. It is a Mexican flea market in downtown Cancun. There are two parts two Cancun: downtown and the hotel zone. Downtown is where you will find more of the Mexican type shopping. The hotel zone is where a lot of the tourists shop. Again, Manuel was priceless in the ... read more

We left the Flaming Inn early in the morning on Saturday and again had scattered rain showers on our way back to San Francisco. No seeing Alcatraz on this drive. It was covered in fog. Despite that, the flight left on time and was a smooth flight to Dallas Ft Worth airport. Manuel got to see a bit of the mountains this time. A short layover in Dallas and then back on the plane for Cancun. I felt like the rain gods were following me because as soon as we touched down, the rain began again. We made it to Villa del Palmar about 8:00 that night so we had been traveling for about 14 hours. We were tired and hungry. The rooms are beautiful but we dropped everything and headed to restaurant for the buffet. ... read more

I arrived to Chetumal after an easy boat ride and was excited by the Mexican flag flying at the port and the novelty of finally being able to eat Mexican food in Mexico! A simple taxi ride later (hailing one from the street instead of the robbing bastards that wait for the tourists at the port) and I was at Chetumal Bus Station buying my ticket for Tulum (4 Hours / $12). I arrived there as always without any real idea of where I was staying bit I knew the options were between the developing downtown or the handful of places on the beach. In the end, I just followed a couple of other travellers I met on the bus to hostel “Casa del Sol” in the downtown area and just a few minutes walk from ... read more

I can go home now. I had such a great time at Laguna Yal-Ku in Akumal that I’m totally fulfilled. When I walked from the parking area through the meticulously manicured path and arrived at the entrance of the laguna proper, my mind was blown. It took a good long while to wrap my head around how beautiful the location is. The above-water world is only partially what makes this place one of my favorite in the world. The snorkelling was fantastic. And there isn’t even any brillantly colored coral. The lagoon floor is white and peppered with white rock formations below, mangroves above. As I swam, I would see light piercing through an opening in the rocks and in due time I was able to follow an opening to the other side. It was very ... read more

I didn’t see the signs. Literally, there were massive signs pointing the way and I missed all of them. I was looking for something more modest, more homemade, not two-story tall signs and bright orange arches welcoming me to the ruta de cenotes. So I missed the first turn off, and then the second. I knew at some point I was bound to turn right at a T (which is what the french man running Casitas Kinsol in Puerto Morelos told me. Of course, he also gave me directions to a restaurant around the corner I never found). So I’m driving along the turn-off and now I’m looking for a dirt road. Great, found one! Except this is more like two parallel ditches pretending to be a road. It keeps getting worse so I pull over ... read more

We travelled to Playa del carmen this year myself and two friends and we had the best time ever, We were recommended by friends to stay at The Blue Dragonfly Condos which turned out to be the best recommendation we could wish for because they were so unique and magical and different, beautifully designed very peaceful, great location and most of all the price was great only $800usd for the week for all 3 of us !, We loved the location situated in a little residential community with great park in the middle and cherping tropical birds to watch over coffee in the mornings,It turned out that it was a really good location in the newer part of Playa del carmen, known by the locals as "Little Italy" just a short walk down the road was ... read more

Hannable has been doing some more in depth research within the fields of the Mayan calender and it's astrological followings. We have found our previous knowledge in the astrological realms to have been in correct and have been redirected by some friends here in Playa del Carmen to a website which has proved to be very insightful. Here is the True Hannable astrological readings, taken from the website: www.spacestationplaza.net. Another great website to check out is www.lawoftime.org. Well, I'm about to leave “Bikini Bootcamp” – a fabulous fitness/yoga ‘retreat’ in Tulum, Mexico. It’s set on a gorgeous beach, so each morning has begun with Yoga Sun Salutations, an hour long walk along the beach ... or both ... and all before breakfast! I've really enjoyed the experience ... with a bunch of great women (all Americans except for one Brit). Healthy food, exercise, a couple of massages, plus time for relaxation in a beautiful place ... after only a few days I felt much healthier. However, I must admit my body is slightly in shock after 3-4 hours of exercise a day ... and that's skipping a class each day! Usually the daily schedule incorporates 1-2 hours of yoga, some cardio activity and maybe a dance class or boxing etc. Plus some short ... read more

Andrew could only have 5 days away from work and school, so we took off for a short tour around the Yucatan. When we arrived in Cancun, getting the rental car and finding our way to our cabana was no problem at all. Pretty much everyone spoke some English, so getting around was easy. We were actually staying on Tankah Bay which was just north of Tulum, and a private ex-pat community. There were 2 hotels there, but mostly it was large beach homes. The cabana was right on the prettiest beach I've ever seen. We could snorkel right off the beach, and we had the whole beach to ourselves. Not a single person crossed or even came near the section of beach we were staying on. The cabana was basically a bed and breakfast. Our ... read more
