'All good things must come to an end, but I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way with any other people"... Well after 18 days of a wonderful family vacation in Playa, Al and the girls left Weds. for home. WAH. Ava said goodbye to the condo at least 5 times and to me about 20 times because I'm actually staying on for a bit. I was a bit melancholy to see the family go as it means one more summer of memories packed away from Playa. Next year Rory will almost be 16. Ava 12 and Lara 18. Wow. Plus I miss my sidekick Al (insert hearts here). Of course mama bear had to make sure they were all organized (did you look under the bed for any clothes? Get your stuff out ... read more

"Fantasy and reality often overlap". ~ Walt Disney Hola family & friends. Have you been wondering if I got hit on the head with a coconut on my birthday, & therefore unable to write a blog for a week? Well close. After I posted my blog on my birthday (July 4th) things went downhill. I was like a lyric out of a Frank Sinatra song. Riding high in April and shot down in May... Or shot down in July. It wasn't food poisoning just a little bug which caused some chills and a slight fever and was TOTALLY annoying. I so rarely get a flu and then in July in Mexic? HELLOOO? After a few days of this nonsense, I was saying 'uncle' let me tell you. The following day (July 5th) was Al & my ... read more

(Lyrics to Cat's in the Cradle) My son turned ten just the other day, He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play, Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok", And he walked away but his smile never dimmed, And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah Today is my birthday (cumpleaños), and I am feeling pretty darn blessed to be sitting by the ocean with my family enjoying the sounds of the waves roll in. Yet at the same time, not feeling as good as I should due to the flu that came on last night. Read on at your risk to hear how this all ends. Lord have mercy. "On behalf of all Canadians, SORRY world for being so awesome all of the time". ;) Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians. I have our flags hanging off our condo balcony. So if they didn't know how awesome we were before, they will once they see our maple leaf blowing in the wind. Mexican folks love us Canadians and hellllooo? What's not to love...:) I wish I could make up a big batch of poutine (Canada's national ooey gooey dish!) for the world to eat. I swear that would be enough to bring world peace once they all took a bite and oohed and awwed over it. Food is not only nourishment of the belly, it's nourishment of the soul and mind. July 1st is not only Canada day, it's my dad's birthday. Happy birthday ... read more

"If life is like a rat race, I choose to be the cat". ~ Whoopi-ty-aye-oh, Rockin' to and fro, back in the saddle again. Our second home beckoned and we gleefully answered the call and arrived back in Playa yesterday. I know I mention this all the time, but it really is like old home week coming back here; always welcomed and greeted with big hugs from the condo staff and the many other people we've gotten to know here. They are always so happy to see us (Who wouldn't be happy to see us right? :) I was here in April for a bit of work, and brought along my sister Cindy and friends Martha & Linda. While here I also wanted to work on a personal writing project I have on the go which ... read more

HE SAID... We were leaving Tulum this afternoon and heading northeast to Playa del Carmen. Feeling suitably refreshed from snorkelling with turtles and swimming in a local cenotes (natural sinkhole) after our tour of the bustling Tulum Ruins, we jumped into the minibus and headed to Playa del Carmen, arriving at our hotel (Casa Tucan) at 4pm. We checked in, showered, dropped our laundry around the corner, picked up some drinks and settled in to our very spacious and comfortable room. We headed out for dinner to Los Aguachiles at 7pm. We feasted on aguachile, fresh tuna and octopus tostadas, fish ceviche figurines (lettuce leaf cups) and smoky tuna tacos. The meal was fantastic, and doubly so because we started with complimentary tostadas and sauces. On our way back to the hotel we dropped into Fah ... read more

After our very long day yesterday, we woke up in Mexico on the first proper day of our honeymoon. We found a nice little place for breakfast - eggs, spinach and retried beans, plus some very welcome coffee. We then headed to the beach, which was nice and quiet first thing and had lovely white sand a view over to Cozumel. We swam, bobbing in some really big waves - it looked like we were going to get some rain, but the clouds passed over and the sun returned. We ate lunch (Mexican, obviously) in a lovely restaurant, before heading to the hotel pool. Lara practiced snorkelling whilst looking a bit daft... the eBay £20 dive mask does indeed seem to have precisely the right prescription and doesn't leak, so thanks to the person who spent ... read more

Travel Companions - Lorraine (aka 'Loco') and Erum (Aka 'E') Duration – 9 nights Movies Watched – cannot remember Sitting next to - the girls So, after my Turkey travels I spent a few days in London before heading back to Gatwick South to meet my good friends Lorraine (Loco) and Erum (E). We had organised a girly trip to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. My good mate Saul had already prepped me on where to go and what to do. Lorraine and I met at the designated spot - 'in front of Virgin check-in'. Erum had already texted us to say she had arrived but when we got there she was nowhere to be seen. We waited and waited then called her mobile....she was waiting for us in front of a business class lounge. This just ... read more

Water is the driving force of all nature I started this travel blog many years ago to send out "one" update with pics to all of our family & friends. Never in my wildest dreams would I think anyone other than my family & friends would feel any obligation to read these blogs. When I was awarded "blogger of the week" this past year I can only tell you how very honored and thrilled and blown away I was. It sure was humbling because they are SO many fantastic bloggers on this site, and they all have amazing adventure stories. The honor was all mine & I'm still tickled pink about it. With all the fantastic bloggers on here it's no wonder I feel honored. I'm not hiking the "El Camino" like our friend Keith did ... read more
