hello everyone, So I am in Mexico now after a solid 35 hours of travelling. I am in a little tiny place called Mazunte, it´s beautiful...paradise...again. I had a good time in Xela, Guatemala. It´s a nice city, there was plenty to do and see andI ended up running into some friends from Utila on the street, which is always nice. And I ran into my Israeli friend for the fourth time, in a random restaurant in Xela. So we went out and had some good times. It rained a lot though, and I mean a lot, pretty much all the time with little breaks, but it was also really hot during the day. Never go out without a raincoat and umbrella in Xela! One day I decided to go to this tiny town called Almolonga ... read more

After a long overnight bus journey, we arrive in surfers paradise. We stand for 10 mins in awe of the magnificient waves, the biggest we have ever seen! We love the youth hostel here, the social enviroment is really positive and we meet lots of young travellers who are keen to hang out for a few days and enjoy the night life. We enjoy watching the professional surfers and body borders throughout the day and after one very non-intentionally heavy night (lets just say we were sea sick), we try a spot of deep sea fishing with the locals . We caught a sea turtle and a huge sail fish!! (We didn´t keep them! The fishermen kept the sail fish (naughty) but we only stroked the turtle and put him back in the water). We spend ... read more

Sorry, I’ve edited and re-edited but it’s still a long tail! Starting off…..Back in sweaty, sultry, sloow, San Juan del Sur, if Puerto Viejo was desultory San Juan is sultry…..more gringo developments arising around us and a Japanese funded port facility (many Nicaraguan road bridges are signed “with the love and friendship of the people of Japan”, now I understand!) and the dolphin research centre next maybe?… but it’s still beautiful, maybe No. 2 after Bocas, went for my early morning dip and copped a sea wasp across my arm, blisters and pain, vinegar cure, sunsets at the Iguana Bar, D still hanging in, the usual crowd and some interesting travellers as always. The bay is a classic, perfectly round horseshoe with high cliffs on both sides of the entrance. The waves break around the shore ... read more

We had a nightmare bus journey from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido, on the bus we have now nicknamed the ´´Vomit Comet´´!! For obvious reasons. Man !! It was probably the most windy road I have ever been on !!! 9 hours of it too!!! I sat in front with the driver the whole way, staring fixed at the road ahead.....although that too was quite scarey. The driver drove like a maniac and every now and again I thought he had misjudged a corner. This is all while Ken slept in ignorant bliss!! Puerto Escondido is lovely. Much smaller than we had imagine. We are booked into a hostel called the Mayflower for $8 each a night. It has a great communal area and we have met some super people. Every morning Ken has gone gone down ... read more

Puerto Escondido on oikeastaan kaksi kaupunkia, rannalla on surffareiden ja gringojen kaupunki, maen paalla paikallisten kaupunki, mukava pikkukaupunki eilisen pikaisen kavelyreissun perusteella. Eilen illastimme kolmen aussisurffarin kanssa, jotka yllattaen olivat matkalla Australian mainion sosiaaliturvan rahoituksella. Pojilla ei John Howardista ollut pahaa sanottavaa. Beer and surf, what else do you need man? Jeps. ... read more

Back in Mexico City! It wasn't planned but it seemed like a good idea, especially as we have decided not to get the bus all the way to Dallas as we are sick of the long journeys, instead we have splashed out on 2 plane tickets to Dallas. We spent a while wandering the streets near the Zona Rosa district looking for accommodation, of course the Rough Guide to Mexico was typically useless again. We decided to head to the nearest tourist booth, but as we neared it we were approached by a tourist police officer who seemed very friendly, over friendly, and offered to help us find a room. He then introduced us to his friend who appeared out of nowhere. This guy looked like a mafia boss with his brown suit and dark gold ... read more

It's time to leave this excellent little town on the Mexican coast, it was definitely a good decision staying here over Christmas (and getting a tan). Before leaving we went to Zicatela to swap our books at a local 2nd hand bookstore, walked back along the beach watching more of the huge surf and had lunch at El Cafecito again. At 8:30pm we got the bus to Mexico City which travels via Acapulco, so technically we did get to Acapulco but didn't see it!... read more
