Dzisiaj wybrałem się do miasteczek San Juan de Chamula i Zinacantan. Oba leżą w odleglości okolo 10 km od San Cristobal de las Casas. Mieszkańcy obu z nich przynależą do rdzennej grupy Tzotzil, ale różnią sie bardzo. Tutaj na podstawie stroju można powiedzieć z jakiego miasteczka pochodzi osoba. San Juan de Chamula to miejsce niezwykle oryginalne. To miejsce ciekawych praktyk religijnych. Sami mieszkańcy określają siebie jako "tradycyjnych katolików". Natomiast obiektywnie rzecz ujmując ich praktyki nie mają wiele wspólnego z katolicyzmem. Ich praktyki religijne to mieszanka katolicyzmu i tradycyjych wierzeń indiański z naciskiem na te drugie. Mężczyźni noszą czarne lub białe tuniki wykonane z owczej wełny. Natomiast kobiety białe lub niebieski bluzki bez żadnych wzorów oraz czarne wełniane spódnice. Am Muttertag wurde Anita und ich von Mary und Alain eingeladen, sie nach Mestetik zu begleiten. Das ist ein kleines Dorf das zu Chamula gehoert, in dem die Mutter von Mary und weitere Verwandete leben. Wir speisen dort mit der gesamten Familie. Es gibt u.a. Huehnchen, Bohnen, Tortillas und Coka Cola. Zudem gehen wir im angrenzenden Wald spazieren.... read more

Heute besuche ich im Rahmen einer Tour die Doerfer Chamula und Zinacantan. In Chamula war ich schonmal im Dezember - allerdings ohne Guide. Von der Tour erhoffe ich mir mehr Information ueber die Geschichte und Religion von der hier lebenden indigenen Bevoelkerung. Und meine Erwartungen werden nicht enttaeuscht.... read more

In der Frueh nehme ich ein Collectivo (ein kleiner Personen-Bus) nach San Juan Chamula - einem kleinen Maya-Dorf 10 Kilometer von San Cristóbal entfernt. Als ich den Fahrer frage wann es losgeht meint er, es fehlen noch 5 Personen bis der Bus voll ist. Nach 5 Minuten kommt schliesslich eine Gruppe mit 10 Personen. Klarerweise fahren alle mit diesem Bus mit - das ist Mexiko. Das Highlight in Chamula ist die dortige Kirche - oder besser gesagt das, was sich in der Kirche abspielt. Die ganze Kirche ist mit Tannenzweigen ausgelegt, Baenke um sich hinzusetzen gibt es keine. Am Rand befinden sich Schraenke mit unterschiedlichen Heiligen darin. Ueberall sind Kerzen aufgestellt - direkt am Boden mit heissem Wachs befestigt. In der Maya-Kultur werden Kerzen in unterschiedlichen Farben und Groessen bei Ritualen verwendet. The Tzotzil village of Chamula is famous for its market and church. It is a very political town that has no tax law and has its own police force. The Mexican police and military are not allowed in the town, which has been a strong hold for many years keeping any external forces out. It is the only town that the Spanish never entered. The strength of the town's warriors at the time were too strong and since the town has always contained its own rules adn customs.
