I am Dennis and my wife Celine and I are past our mid 50's; retired on a fixed income and this will be our first trip to Thailand and S.E. Asia. While raising our kids, we rarely left North America. For this first 22 day trip, we have 3 objectives: 1) Enjoy the cultural experience close to what middle class Thai would. 2) Stick with 2 star hotels, as long as they are clean and conveniently located. 3) Avoid burning rubber or running all over the country to touch as many tourist spots for the $ we spend. We picked United Airlines to fly Toronto-Chicago-Tokyo (Narita)- Bangkok. It was the least expensive at approx $1350 / person incl. taxes. However it includes 13 hour and 7 hour flight segments. Ouch! says our lower backs! We have ... read more

So after my little log the other day, the heavens opened and proceeded to cover the lower Valley floor with about 6in of fresh snow. That translates to a little over a foot on the higher peaks. To all in the know, that is a good for business. The vista that I am faced with every morning is tough. 360 degree snow covered, mountainous views. It is so beautiful. I handed out a whole heap of resumes yesterday, I have applied for a managers position at Billabong - could be good for the resume. I have the experience but they are looking for a canadian (preferably), but who knows! I am moving into to staff accom today, that should be fun. Anyway, I am dowbloading some pics to a disc asap so hopefully there should be ... read more

Hey all, hope you are all doing fine. I am currently staying in a little place called Pemberton which is about 30km North of Whistler. I am moving into staff accom in the next couple of days. Met a couple of cool people in the little backpackers am staying in - all are planning on working at whistler for the season. Not too much to report on as I am trying to keep a low profile until I start working. I will post some photos when I get my pics burnt to a CD (clever me forgot my USB cable!). It is snowing on the higher peaks at the moment - the snow level is slowly making its way down the mountian. The season opens in a little under 3 weeks. I am so pumped about ... read more

Well well, back in beautiful Vancouver again! I forgot how amazing this place is. It is so much different to what is was when I was here in April. This post will be short as I am just wasting a bit of time at the moment. Just want to let everyone know that I am alive and well. The next post will hopefully be a little more interesting - it will be transmitted from Whistler!! Untill next time, take care all. -HAMISH-... read more
