Hola chicos and chicas, just a quick entry to say hello and let you all know that I finally found some salmon (which has already come and gone...), which I'm sure you're all extremely excited about. Went and bought myself some ice hockey skates today, as the ice skating rink between work and home opens on Friday. Got inspired after watching an OHL game here in town between the Kingston Frontenacs (I don't know what that means exactly, but their mascot is a pirate) and the Ottawa 67's (I don't know if they even have a mascot...). Turns out the local guys suck, losing 5-0 after making the brilliant move of taking off their goalie to put an extra man in offence. The other team then proceeded to pot two goals FROM THE OTHER END OF ... read more

Godspeed friends ! A week has past since I left home and I still haven't been able to beat the jet lag accumlated during the seven hours over the Atlantic, flying from Stockholm to Ottawa. However, I might not have been perfectly fair to my body when blaming it for not being able to adapt to the new rhytm. The sleeping hours tend to get short when breaking new ground... To sum up first impressions of Canada, there's only one word worth quoting : BIG ! Cars, roads, buildings and distances all come in a greater scale. Even though I'm struck by the huge diversity in terms of ethnical background of the population (asians being the largest influx of immigrants), ways of life seem to be quite similiar to Scandinavia. On the other hand, I find ... read more

Well here we go with the very beginning... the night before the flight. Everything's packed, or so I think since I ALWAYS forget SOMETHING and I'm usually late. So this time I decided to be early, for once... we'll see how that goes tomorrow morning Right now I'm photocopying everything and sending notice to as many people as possible about our departure. That way no one can say they didn't know.. unless they don't have an e-mail... ummm anyway. Oh, and "our" would be Dave and I, my other half, my fiance, the one, however you want to put it we're doing it together. Our fight leaves from Ottawa International at 10:45 am tomorrow, great way to spend my 25th birthday, memorable at least. The whole family is coming for the drive to see us off... ... read more

When it gets to the point that Christmas carols are sung to the tune of 'T.N.T.', then I have had enough of AC/DC, Australian though they may be. They seem to love bogan rock here in Kingston, or maybe it's just the radio station I have to listen to at work. I've heard more than my fair share of AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Warrant and other long-haired poodle rock types. The funniest one was the T.N.T. song performed live in the Kingston Christmas Parade -so sad, yet so highly amusing. 'Santa Claus - ho, ho , ho .... Santa Claus - ho, ho, ho..." Getting closer to Christmas, but with very little of the white stuff in sight. It's not that it's not cold enough (it was zero at noon yesterday), but it just ain't falling, ... read more

Hi everybody! Sorry I haven't had much news lately. The reason being; I've been back home! I am lucky enough to work for a company whose head office is in my hometown, so when I got sent there to develop some corporate policy with our execs, I was only too happy! Sorry I didn't mention anything sooner, but I was trying to surprise my folks, which I very happily did! The whole thing went something like this... On a Friday night near the end of October (after giving a presentation I'd been preparing for weeks) I attended a cocktail party for work, then jumped on a plane to come back to Canada. I was so excited to come back home and see my family and friends after 6 MONTHS straight on the African continent. I was ... read more

And it comes to an end. Our month-long journey from Toronto to Vancouver ends on November 6th, 2006 with a day of driving from Thunder Bay to home sweet home. Pulling out of Thunder Bay at 5:30 a.m., we caught the sunrise as we drove through the beautiful Superiour region just east of Thunder Bay. We were determined to get home today to see everyone, and we were actually a full day ahead of our anticipated schedule. Both of us were very excited to get home and getting such an early start allowed us to see the sunrise, catch some Z's, and have a good old heart to heart before we both returned to life in the city. I am so happy that I was able to do this, and that Geoff and the folks at ... read more

Hello all (make sure to click on the video of me scuba diving!), Well, I am now back in the Great White North. Although my trip has now come to an end, I must still record for you its final leg. My last blog entry left me in Ciudad Bolivar, a small town in the heart of Venezuela and also the gateway to Angel Falls. Angel Falls is the highest waterfall in the world at 979 meters, 807 of which are uninterrupted (16 times higher than Niagara in case you were wondering). Getting to the falls, however, is no easy feat. The only way to get to there is to take an hour long plane ride from Bolivar to a small village named Canaima. Once landed, you must then hop in a small banana boat and ... read more
