So, the day after Niagara Falls, Rach and I made our way to Niagara-On-The-Lake, a small town around 30 minutes from the falls themselves. The town is where the river Niagara meets Lake Ontario and was a proudly loyalist town during the civil war. When we arrived, we realised that there wasn't really that much to do and it was very touristy, with lots of little shops (and expensive shops). The tourists all seemed to be of a more senior age and there seemed to be little for young hip travellers like us to do!!! :-) We took a walk down to the Lake itself which was very tranquil and unfortunately due to the fact it was cloudy we couldn't see Toronto on the far shore of the lake, which apparently is very clear on a ... read more

This summer we did quite a bit of traveling on our own continent, for a change. As always we had a fantastic time visiting with our families in Boston and Madison this summer, and especially enjoyed introducing our parents (and families) to each other for the very first time. We also spent a weekend in Minneapolis for a few days with Sarah and James and got to see the city and checkout the sky walk system there (which is really cool!). Lastly we headed up to Canada for a weekend. We went to Niagra on the Lake for a wedding, wine tastings and to check out Niagra Falls. Check out some pics of our trip to the Falls, from the Canadian side. What's cool about the Canadian side is that you get to see a full ... read more

The Niagara Region is known for its breathtaking scenery, award-winning wines and world class Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara on the Lake. But now it has even more excitement to offer tourists - a diverse array of challenging geocaches. Today, the entire Niagara Region is absolutely filled with outdoor adventure - all you need is a consumer brand GPS device, keen eyesight, and a decent pair of hiking boots. What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a fun 21st century treasure hunt where Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates are targeted to find buried caches of collectible goodies. The caches are hidden in Tupperware containers, empty peanut butter jars, or steel ammunition boxes. Each geo... read more

She wore a white t-shirt on which the words, “Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” were emblazoned in red letters. The words belong to George Bernard Shaw, but they were brought to life by her, on that white cotton shirt, and she was living them. Today that girl is a powerful, successful, sophisticated woman. She is entirely the product of her own creation. She is wise beyond her years and it’s hard to surprise her, and even harder to impress her, with anything. As her loving husband its my job to ignite her, delight her, and put her in that magical place where a smile comes more easily than a frown. A Romantic Vacation I’ve taken her away to remote tropical resorts in Hawaii and Cuba, and last summer we tried Venice ... read more

"And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." ~T.S. Eliot I left my hotel room at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday night and walked into my home in Niagara at 3:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon. That's a lot of hours of being in transit from one place to another and I was very grateful to finally be still. In spite of the fact that I'd had very little sleep ( I don't do well sleeping in an up-right position AND there was a screaming baby on the plane from Lima to Atlanta) I managed to stay awake until about 10 p.m. Then I slept for 12 hours. Today I feel good. Rested and almost ready to face the world again. Michael asked if ... read more

Another long day's drive. We drove across the top of lake Huron and down Northern Manitoulin Island. Took the Main Channel ferry across Lake Huron to Bruce Peninsula and on to Niagara on th Lake. Arrived without reservations but we were able to get a reasonable rate at The Moffat Inn, a precious place, but then again the whole town is very precious. Designated the prettiest town in Ontario it does live up to the title. What strikes you first are the incredible flower gardens, public and private, that are everywhere. I've seen some big hanging baskets but none bigger than the ones here. They must fertilize like crazy. The shops as expected are expensive boutiques, no outlet shopping here. Even in darkness as we walked to an English Pub for a bite to eat the ... read more

On Thursday, we planned to venture further up the Niagara Parkway to Niagara-on-the-Lake. This is a true parkway as it parallels the Niagara Parks Commission park its entire length. First stop was the Floral Clock. The Floral Clock is a 40-foot wide operating clock. It's been in operation since 1952, originally maintained by Niagara Hydro and now by Niagara Parks. It's called the Floral Clock because the clock face is decorated each year with different themed flower arrangements. In 2005, the theme was Scouting, celebrating the centennial of the founding of Boy Scouts in the UK. Behind the clock, a room contains a display of color photos of all of the annual floral designs back to the beginning. It was inspired by the Floral Clock in Edinburgh, Scotland, but this one is larger at 40 ft. ... read more
